Crosby, Stills & Nash - Chicago Lyrics

So your brother's bound and gagged and they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come to Chicago just to sing
In a land that's known as freedom how can such a thing be fair
Won't you please come to Chicago for the help that we can bring

We can change the world
Rearrange the world
It's dying
To get better

Politicians sit yourselves down there's nothing for you here
Won't you please come to Chicago for a ride
Don't ask Jack to help you 'cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please come to Chicago or else join the other side

We can change the world
Rearrange the world
It's dying
If you believe in justice
If you believe in freedom
Let a man live his own life
Rules and regulations who needs them
Open up the door

Somehow people must be free I hope the day comes soon
Won't you please come to Chicago show your face
From the bottom of the ocean to the mountains of the moon
Won't you please come to Chicago no one else can take your place

We can change the world
Rearrange the world
It's dying
If you believe in justice
If you believe in freedom
Let a man live his own life
Rules and regulations who needs them.

Some things don’t change. Its dying. That will happen. Everything dies, but we are strong. Keeping the struggle alive is what keeps us connected to life. Politics are dismal today, but the young people today are as vibrant, as vital as we were in the 60s and 70s. From what I’ve seen, with every generation, increasing numbers of children grow up knowing that this struggle is being waged on this living planet for their sake, for the sake of our planet’s future.

More and more people today understand that we are better off without living in hate, that we all benefit from living in a world where everybody is important, that real solutions are possible. Incredible as it may seem, its working! Maybe there will always be some people who just don’t get it. We completely miss the point if we let a few disillusioned souls continue to polarize us for their own destructive schemes. We don’t want to let ourselves be defined by our failures.

The door is open. We are human beings. Let’s treat others like they are people too.

    This song rocks!

  35. K.... S....

Trump is our last hope to rid us the deep state. I can’t believe how many Americans have been brainwashed to not see this.

  36. m.... ....

Back in the sixties ,the good guys fought for what they believe in. Back then the left in the US had heart and balls. They didn't jabber about cultural appropriation and crap like that. They tried to stop a war. Now VILE TRUMP and his gang of oil billionaires ,war mongering ,racists, fascists, rapists and assholes are leading our earth to demise by CO2 emission and the good guys are silent. Go to the streets and protest!!!

    m.... ....

Finally something is happening in England- Extinction rebellion.

  37. D.... S....

It is Graham Nash's song but I hear backup vocals from David Crosby at least. Stephen Stills (who is originally from Dallas) did not want to go to Chicago after the 1968 Democratic Convention. Graham wrote this song to Stephen begging him to "Come to Chicago no one else can take your place, Show your face". They were all anti-war and Graham felt that by going "We can change the world". Powerful stuff that we could use today.

  51. 9.... ....

it was the Trial of the Chicago Seven, the govt was trying to prosecute all the organizers at once, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, and Lee Weiner—charged by the federal government with conspiracy, inciting to riot, and other charges related to anti-Vietnam War and countercultural protests that took place in Chicago, Illinois, on the occasion of the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Look it UP...........READ

    9.... ....

Well, almost. It was the trial of the Chicago Eight, and Judge Julius Hofman argued with Bobby Seale, cited him with contempt, and had him bound, gagged, and chained to his chair in court. Then he separated his trial and sentenced him to two years in jail for contempt of court. That's what the "your brother's bound and gagged, and they've tied him to a chair" line in the song is about. Bobby Seale was the vice chair and co-founder of the Black Panthers, and the originator of what became the HeadStart program.
