Croce, Jim - It Doesn't Have To Be That Way Lyrics
Snowy nights and Christmas lights,
Icy windowpanes,
Make me wish that we could be
Together again
And the windy winter avenues
And the Christmas carols sound like blues,
But the choir is not to blame
But it doesn't have to be that way
What we had should never have ended
I'll be dropping by today
We could easily get it together tonight
It's only right
Crowded stores, the corner Santa Claus,
And the sidewalk bands play their songs
Slightly out of tune
Down the windy winter avenues
There walks a lonely man,
And if I told you who he is,
Well I think you'd understand
But it doesn't have to be that way
What we had should never have ended
I'll be dropping by today
We could easily get it together tonight
It's only right
No, it doesn't have to be that way
What we had should never have ended
I'll be dropping by today
We could easily get it together tonight
It's only right

Croce, Jim It Doesn't Have To Be That Way Comments
if this isn't the most beautiful songs idk what is
The best folk writer and vocals ..miss ya Mr Croce.
LOVE this song....so beautiful
Thank you for this posting. Merry Christmas to all!
One of the greatest Christmas songs ever written! Can anyone doubt that despite the popular stereotypes men are ny far the most romantic sex?
One of Jim Croce's best songs for sure, and one of my top three favorite songs mentioning the Christmas season. Just for the record, the other two are "Fairytale Of New York" by The Pogues and "2000 Miles" by The Pretenders.
Who started using the word "iconic" every 15 minutes? And "back in the day" and "I'm going to give you a heads up" and "old school". Can people just stop saying the same dumb crap over and over? Please somebody, just say something ORIGINAL...not the same tired overused words. Let's go back to the 1970's when Jim Croce was around and when you said thank you peole said "you're welcome" (not "no problem") Anyway I love this song. I sure miss me some Jim Croce. Imagine a song about a stalker during the holidays! It doesn't get better (or wackier) than this. "I'll be dropping by today" (whether you want me to or not) WHO COULD NOT LOVE THIS?
Sige na lang! Daghang salamat! Ang karong adlaw, dili na ang kagahapon! Oo walay sapayan!
That was an iconic comment.
Greatest storyteller of them all. Oh right, also blessed with that voice and genius guitar ability.
No one ever wrote about love lost better than Jim Croce did. The world lost an amazingly wonderful talent much too soon when he died in 1973 at the hight of his career.
Great song for the Christmas holidays !
El Herrera oddly you rarely ever hear it play at christmas if ever.
this song always makes me think about my family while im working in the prison and they are enjoying the day
My sweetheart sent me this song... he told me what he loves about it... and I think to myself... that is one beautiful man ♥
One of this best songs without a doubt!
Yes, such a sweet xmas song, one of Jims best!
Thanks for all of ypur song.
I wish we see each other again I love u
I miss you at all
One of my all time favorites by Jim. It talks about loneliness, and how Christmas seems empty without another person to share it with. I feel just the same about an old relationship (KRL) and how beautiful Christmas seemed when I shared this season with him. We went our own separate ways but this song reminds me of those wonderful days. I wish I could (drop by) and tell him these feelings but he is married now and I don't know how to find him. (KRL), this song is for you.
+Deborah Meyer He just wasn't into you. At least you have your cats.
+Husky Fan in Mass Who said anything about cats?
