I had this album, and along with The Doors first album, it was all I had psychedelic, so I'd listen to it all the time when I got stoned (on weed). But it wasn't until I heard Bass Strings on acid that I heard "LSD" three times at the end instead of one.
An all time favorite of mine. I was bummed when they followed Jeff Airplane into all the political baloney. But this album - heck yeah!
They started out political, and were always that way. Joe and Melton were both Red Diaper babies

June of 1969 I was in LA. I met a young lady and we started hanging out together. One Friday she said she was going up the canyon to a party and want me to go with her. I did. So I'm siting smoking mother nature , drinking and generally having a great time with a bunch of strangers. Eventually I have to go piss and when I get to the bathroom I see a couple Gold Records on the wall. They belonged to "Country" Joe McDonald! So I when I rejoin the party I ask my friend about this and she pointed out Joe and Barry Melton! It was their house . Barry Invited me and Lea to stay over so we stayed the rest of the weekend and got wrecked!

Like 'Eight Miles High,' but structurally looser, Section 43 becomes both a literal and metaphorical statement of chemically assisted boundless freedom, tinged with an edge of melancholy and regret. With its wheezy, acid drenched, fairground, farfisa organ - "Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind" - and its multi tracked raga rock guitars; Section 43 charts the peaks, the longueurs, the dissolving ego into a collapsing universe of lysergic ecstasy. All luminous fog, shimmering space, time shifts and possibilities. It carries the moment like nothing else. Spaced out wonder in the everlasting moment!!!!
