Counterparts - Jumping Ship Lyrics

As time passes by
I feel everything changing but me
I will not feel the sting of defeat
I've watched days become months
become years
and I've lost all faith in progression
I will never allow myself to exchange all my morals for acceptance
If this is truly where I belong
I'll fucking be here until the end of time
I've watched everyone around me jump ship
and I hope they're left to sink
The current will carry us
I am proud of all that I've become
and I'm well aware that I have steered myself in the right direction
And life is your's to destroy
I just can't respect your decision
I would rather isolate myself than be a walking definition of travesty
I watched you do away with everything
I would love nothing more than to watch this world swallow you whole
You were the catalyst for your downfall
But where the rest have failed
we are bound to succeed
And mark my fucking words
as long as we are breathing
we will overcome
The integrity that we emanate day-to-day is unparalleled
and our efforts will not go unnoticed
We will be remembered

  8. W.... L....

The crowd is so ingeuine. None of them like this music you can tell.

    W.... L....

    Idk wtf you're talking about

    W.... L....

Lol they're propbably friends and locals. I'm sure you know better, though. I grew up in the hardcore scene, though I was rarely one to jump in the pit.

Dancing felt disingenuous to me, though the music is part of who I am.

    W.... L....

    Woodsman Last theyre canadians

    W.... L....

If I recall correctly, they filmed this music video before the song even came out. They rented out some warehouse in Hamilton and just posted on their Facebook group for people to show up. And since the song hadn't been released yet, no one knew the words

    W.... L....

Pretty legit hardcore dancing so I'd say they are at least fans of hardcore 😏

  9. D.... P....

2:16 August burns red shirt, sorry just had to point out of respect

Going to put the part I will never feel the sting of defeat on my locker at school :)

  14. D.... P....

My favorite melodic hardcore band bar none. I also like hundredth and rise against but counterparts just has the perfect level of heavyness and technicality.

    D.... P....

    Yes!!!!!!!!

    D.... P....

+Doug Payne I also, like those bands and counterparts.

  15. G.... E....

  17. Q.... ....

"The integrity that we emanate day-to-day is unparalleled, and our efforts will not go unnoticed. We will be remembered." - Easily top ten most inspiring song lyrics I have ever heard.

    Q.... ....

Also counterparts: mortality is the greatest gift given to the living; but a curse to those who feel truly alive

    Q.... ....

You apparently haven't heard many songs in your life.

  18. O.... ....

    T.... A....

Did you go? Are you talking about the Poughkeepsei show? My friends band, Artisan opened for that show and Derrick from state champs went to my highschool

  23. L.... ....

See Counterparts with Sylar in Howell, NJ on Friday, December 13th at GameChangerWorld!

    L.... ....

@LiveConcertsVIds182 Sylar is awful. I saw them with Beartooth and cringed for the entire set.

  24. S.... ....

hey guys you should check this song out :) /watch?v=QaIYF_9F-us

  25. C.... ....

    I love Kelly as their drummer, though he'll always be in Dead And Divine in my heart ;-;

Can't get enough of this video!

  27. O.... D....

  28. x.... ....

    go see them live then.

  29. C.... C....

I think he just kinda stopped giving a shit about it and they stopped talking so he left... I think he plays in a band called Snake Charmer now.

  30. T.... M....

    Jason Street on vocals

  31. C.... ....

Why did he leave the band?

  32. R.... B....

Yes he left quite a while ago. Kelly Bilan is their new drummer

  33. C.... ....

Where is this drummer? I did he leave the band because I never see him any more?

  34. K.... ....

"I will never allow myself to exchange all my morals for acceptance If this is truly where I belong I'll fucking be here till end of time" -couterparts
Man, I love drugs, but I hate them even more.

  35. v.... m....

    The drummer goes hard<3

  36. R.... C....

i wish bands like this got the fame that crappy bands like black veil brides, and all the gay rise records bands have that don't deserve it. these bands have way more passion and heart and have a good message for people,

  37. W.... C....

Listen to their guitar play through, they are obviously capable of playing this. They just got edited/punched in to fuck by whoever engineered the album. I would love to here this band come up with a more organic sounding album. I still think this album is gold, but it'd cool to here them make a rawer album.

  38. A.... G....

First time listening to counterpart and they're pretty fuckin sick. I saw on my fb front page that these guys made a shout out to Every Time I Die coming out with their album Hot Damn ten years ago, definitely got my respect.

  39. j.... ....

You're confusing a mathematical definition of "perfect" with a human sense of "perfect."

  40. T.... H....

I understand your point and yes, and there is certainly a large market for "raw", unaltered music. And it's definitely better at conveying and evoking emotion. But I don't know if, for me, there's a better feeling than hearing the drone of the bass, the crunch of the guitars, and the crashing of the drums coming together in crisp harmony. It makes me happy and I enjoy it. I understand it removes a need for SOME talent, but honestly, I don't think I mind. I can't speak for anyone but myself, tho.

  41. j.... ....

But you never know, you might just like the sound of them better if you heard them record with less crutches. There is a certain "something" that makes great music, and it's not note for note perfection. I read about a study recently which found that the vast majority of people, across all age groups, no matter what their favorite genre was, thought that music recorded pre-digital technology sounded "better."

  42. T.... H....

Then perhaps you listen to music for different reasons than fans of Counterparts and the like. Their live performances certainly make them out to be competent musicians who know what they're doing, but if they want to get the sound they want on their record, and that requires the aid of technology that is readily available, I don't blame them. I like what I hear and as a fan, I don't really mind that it took the assistance of programs to get there.

  43. j.... ....

Previous artists weren't any less crisp, and they weren't "muddled." And there are artists around today of all genres who don't edit their playing on a note by note basis. That's because they're competent musicians who can actually get a part down without mistakes. I'm not saying that clinical music is necessarily a bad thing, because obviously techno music is very clinical. But in a rock context, you lose something when you polish it too much. Some might call it the "human energy."

  44. T.... H....

Then perhaps modern artists are shooting for a crisper, cleaner, less muddled sound than previous artists. And there's clearly a large fanbase for that. I'm not saying artists can't produce solid, even beautiful music without heavy mixing and mastering, because they can. If it takes equalizing and editing and mastering at a microscopic level to get the sound they're shooting for, I'm not going to harsh them. They still put on a mean show live and fans can still lose their shit during their shows

  45. j.... ....

Because it makes for very clinical music that has lost something of the character of the band playing off each other live. Of course bands have always worked hard at getting the best takes down in the studio, but the extent to which this is done with Pro Tools etc these days is ridiculous. They're shaping performances at the waveform level. Note that the vast majority of history's rock bands have been able to make killer records without these edits.

  46. W.... H....

    Theres good hope for music!

  47. T.... H....

You make it sound like a bad thing. They put on a solid performance live, but I don't see what's particularly wrong with wanting to get the best sound possible on your record rather than slapping together messy and flawed takes.

  48. A.... S....

You guys arguing are silly. Counterparts are good, end hehe xox

  49. J.... M....

You legitimately have NO argument either. You clearly haven't seen their live show, because they play their music spot on. And they're music is quite intricate. You have no proof of any editing in the recordings, because I doubt you fucked with the .wav files. Scrub.

  50. j.... ....

That's not an argument, it's just an adolescent tic.

  51. A.... W....

i get your point completely, however these guys are still talented as fuck, and incredible musicians. search up a live video of these guys and you'll see..

  52. R.... ....

    2002* haha

  53. J.... M....

    Are you fucking retarded?

  54. j.... ....

Oh stop it. There have been hundreds of bands throughout history with more complex arrangements than this who nonetheless managed to record pristine music without the kind of digital editing techniques that make today's young bands sound talented than they actually are.

  55. J.... M....

you mean..... you mean they cared about the complexity of their parts coming through on their recordings and didn't just set up an SM58 in the middle of a room? NO FUCKING WAY THIS IS AN ATROCITY HOW DARE THEY

  56. D.... ....

lol give me a break dude, this is pretty dang raw compared to other genres of aggressive music.

  57. J.... J....

Structures released their first EP in 2010 (same year as these guys first album) and SFTP has been around since '03 I think.

  58. I.... ....

Check out this new hardcore!! /watch?v=NrVvDSkG95E

  59. d.... ....

This band came before structures and stray if anything those guys are a mix of counterparts. Either way I disagree with that statement. And to billy mark, check out "title fight" perhaps?

  60. B.... M....

Anyone know any bands that have a similar sound to the "We will be remembered" part in this song? I could listen to that over and over again.

  61. L.... .....

It's like a mix between Stray From The Path and Structures, holy fuck this is good!

  62. F.... P....

hey, there's that asian guy again XD

  63. c.... ....

    MY EARS!

  64. s.... p....

    sounds like abyss by expire

  65. j.... ....

When you grew up listening to music that was pre-digital, you can tell when a track has a lot of digital processing and editing going on. Most modern music these days is heavily edited. The drumbeats are shifted to correct timing issues, as are the guitar parts. Melodic instruments (including voice) have any pitch issues corrected, and instrument parts are constructed bar by bar from multiple takes. The result is music that is way too clinical and perfect. You can spot it a mile off.

  66. J.... W....

I've never used pro tools before, how can you tell?

  67. J.... B....

    That was just.... No.

  68. S.... ....

here the lyrics: woadascha musodasdh ncajscoaisd ncepaffefiso muaaaaaaaa hoahhdwm...

  69. T.... W....

They promised there would be pizza at this shoot. I never got any :(

  70. H.... ....

They start recording it next month

  71. E.... A....

Wow, some people's comments on here...ouf.. Counterparts rox my sox!

  72. A.... ....

But where the rest have failed, we are bound to succeed. And mark my fucking words, as long as we are breathing, we will overcome. The integrity that we emanate day-to-day is unparalleled, and our efforts will not go unnoticed. We will be remembered.

  73. A.... ....

I am proud of all that I’ve become, and I’m well aware that I have steered myself in the right direction. And life is your’s to destroy, I just can’t admire the path you’ve chosen. I would rather isolate myself than be a walking definition of travesty. I watched you do away with everything. I would love nothing more than to watch this world swallow you whole. You were the catalyst for your downfall.

  74. A.... ....

As time passes by, I feel everything changing but me. I will not feel the sting of defeat. I’ve watched days become months, become years. and I’ve lost all faith in progression. 75. s.... b....

hey son i agree completely but i was right i couldnt find any tabs what so ever :)

  76. M.... M....

what a stupid thing to say

  77. J.... ....

This song is so intensely beautiful

  78. N.... B....

ya in my opinion they're one of the best hardcore bands in the world right now.

  79. M.... ....

Ohh that The Bride! Then yes, I agree.

  80. M.... ....

Is it The Bride that I think you're thinking (They do the songs "Murder Most Foul" and "All Work and No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy")?
If so, this is not even close.

  81. s.... e....

    awesome!

  82. W.... ....

Nah. I wish more of their songs were more like more of there songs. So I could counterparts while I counterparts.

  83. R.... H....

    Was thinking the same thing!

  84. T.... ....

I need them to come to California. Such a great band. They deserve so much more recognition than they have.

  85. T.... ....

The focus on the mic at the begining is a cinematic device, it has nothing to do with any band, so stop talking shit

  86. j.... ....

The Pro Tools edits are strong in this one.....

  87. Y.... ....

I wish more of their songs were like the last minute of this song.

  88. P.... T....

Sorry you're right, the chord progression in this song is absolutely ground breaking stuff.

  89. C.... ....

    No, just no

  92. M.... J....

    This band is so inspirational.

  93. P.... T....

This band are just as insipid, derivative and technically boring as AA.

  94. K.... T....

    This band is controversial?

  95. D.... W....

I'm super confused why this band is so controversial? So fucking what, they're young kids that take their cue's from Shai Hulud / Misery Signals just like their original "counterparts", have an ambitious sound and pull it off (that's prolly why so many of you shit talking punks hate them, cause they're the same age as you and blow your shit band out of the water), so what? Since they didn't do it 7 years ago they're phonies? Give me a fucking break, they were like 8 years old.

  96. k.... ....

    not anymore

  97. T.... B....

They are popular because scene girls think Ben Bruce and Danny Worsnop are attractive. And br00tal kids think they're heavy because they play 14 breakdowns in one song.

  98. a.... ....

your fucked in the head justin bieber is popular you fucking moron

  99. a.... ....

man you're fucked in the head
