Copeland - Chin Up Lyrics
With your eyes closed,
Watching a strange show
Play out in your head,
But you were smiling somehow
And your day froze,
Sat still as a rose,
But we were moving somehow.
Back to where we started,
Losing who we were,
Maybe we should only
Tip a bottle back to keep us filled up.
Back to where we started,
Losing who we were,
You’d break your neck to keep your chin up.
Open your eyes,
And the drops come,
And a snail raced down to your neck,
And looked up,
But you were smiling somehow.
Back to where we started,
Losing who we were,
Maybe we should only
Tip a bottle back to keep us filled up.
Back to where we started,
Losing who we were,
Everybody knows that
You’d break your neck to keep your chin up.

I wish the video had the same meaning as the song. It really doesn't do the song now justice. :/

Agreed. It never made a lot of sense to me in the context of this track.
I have to agree.
It’s not so bad..quality isn’t the best

Boa tarde
no, it's because she was suffering in the first place, and despite being surrounded by people, she was empty inside, and as time passed, she became increasingly aware of it.
She tried to distract herself, with the video, with cleaning, with friends eventually even though she was isolated in the first place... then she realized that even having friends wouldn't help the loneliness, she was forced to face her truth.
Dylan Anderson's version is just as beautiful.
Dylan Anderson covered this and its amazing, you should check it out
I had no idea this video was so perfect. I just posted the video for the song, because I related to the song to describe my thoughts, but then I saw the video afterwards, and it's exactly how I feel. I was looking all night for a song to describe what only this video has said, because nobody knows
If it's not anything else by Copeland, maybe something by Owl City? This song also kind of reminded me of "Oh Well, Oh Well" by Mayday Parade. Hope this helps?
she is gorgeus ...love her mustache
i don't get it :/ que bodrio de video!
Hahaha her hand at the end is fat.
can someone please explain the music video?
It's a good song, but I'd like to know the exact meaning to the video.
how is this deep or clever? so the girl is obviously lonely, its not in a profound way or anything. i cant believe i waited till the end of the video and nothing awesome happened.
wow this girl is very hot.
yeah its a shame for people who have seen the video before listening to the song because the song by itself is 100 times better! but ill cut them some slack because it was a low-budget mv. i find it to be very scary however and i will probably have bad dreams about this tonight.....
Disappointing video
that video sucks, the girls ugly.
the song however is so beautiful, its ridiculous
she's the swan queen
i am convinced now that Copeland doesn't leave home to make a video.
i FUCKING HAAAATTTTEEee WHEN THE FUCKING AD FUCCCCKKIINNGGG FREEEZZEESSS LIKE WHAT THE FUCK!!!! oh wait.. nevermind... its playing now C:
Ultimately, her desire to be accepted eats her up on the inside, either because she hasn't been honest with who she really is, or because she's trying too hard to please everyone but herself.
@neongeno5 I think it's supposed to be her checking her mail several times a day. It's sort of like a representation of her being paranoid about being accepted. That parcel she receives in the mail is the gratification that she seeks to affirm her worth. Well, that's my understanding.
This girl is very pretty.
this sounds a great lot like frou frou
People who dislike this video just don't get the meaning behind it. I won't be your english teacher and analyze this for you. There's a reason it was shot like this instead of with flashy lights and colors. It's raw. Figure it out.
This song is absolutely beautiful, but this video sucks.
@GuitarHero2790 Well, right. I'm saying that Deathcab made that hole (early Deathcab was maybe a little Red House Painters mixed in with The Beatles, or some shit?) a little wider, so bands like Copeland could reach a broader audience. Not that any of this is of consequence. Also, I'm not talking about any top 40 bullshit.
@monagibbs Yeah, I hear you. I really like the vocals, I guess it's Aarons (what I consider) polished delivery and the similarity I hear with Deathcab, a band which became mainstream and helped this type of music become more familiar and accessible.
@markrazmandi "Ignorant fuck" eh? Do I know you? Or do you often go around acting like a douche bag and calling people derogatory names? Copeland is a pop band. And a good one, as my opinion is supported my the coincidence of me wearing one of their shirts as I type this. Being objective and thinking about music, I will sometimes hope my opinions will strike up intelligent conversations. Obviously this isn't going to happen with someone like yourself. Have a good one.
i wouldn't exactly call it mainstream, but it depends on what you would consider that. I've never heard copeland on the radio, and they seem to have a distinct sound.
can someone explain to me what they believe is the meaning?
@JohnMark8403 yeah, maybe it was a little harsh.
@tofuleg Really? a "song for pre-teens"?
Not bad for a gooey song for pre-teens. Straight up polished mainstream pop. Great song though.
good song! :)
