Only him and Harvey come even close. It is a romantic Blues song, not a typical Western chant. It has harmony and sorrows and pride, memories of love and shame, and hope. It has liveliness. It have positive power. Sam really captures the moods of the song.

As much as like Sam Cooke, this version and the arrangement, cannot touch Harve Presnell's. Giving an up-tempo beat to a song about loneliness is just plain wrong. The true depth of the song comes through in Mr. Presnell's version.

Beautiful version, I grew up listening to the Kingston Trio's version so that's the best one to me. However, Sam Cooke has no bad songs, truly a genius artist.

When he was growin up, he learned that if you cant physically sing loud enough, just make sure the audience understands every word you say. He still had that sweet southern accent, but he had great pronunciation techniques. Its a subtle thing, but I appreciate it.
