Connick, Jr., Harry - Don't Get Around Much Anymore Lyrics

Missed the Saturday dance
Heard they crowded the floor
Couldn't bear it without you
Don't get around much anymore

Thought I'd visit the club
Got as far as the door
They'd have asked me about you
Don't get around much anymore

Darling, I guess my mind's more at ease
But nevertheless, why stir up memories

Been invited on dates
Might have gone but what for
Awfully different without you
Don't get around much anymore

Connick, Jr., Harry Don't Get Around Much Anymore Comments
  1. R.... D....

Wished H.C.J. would get back in his bag. Instead of television shows.

  2. i.... ....

The problem with Harry Connick JR is he is almost to clever with his music for the masses to appreciate....now , I appreciate what he was doing in these earlier days but he realised (I think ) that he had to dumb down his work to be more commercial , just an opinion. By the way , I think his " work " is grossly underrated and he remains one of my favourite artists.

At 3:40 The bass player is in the pocket and diggin' it.

  4. T.... ....

Like Michael Bublé, but with a better voice, more handsome, and can play stride piano. I guess not like Michael Bublé at all...

  5. M.... M....

Didn't know this artist. I think he's the male version of Diana Krall

  6. f.... m....

I think he's copied Mel Torme's style. Rather well actually. Saw him last saturday on Stricktly & he's looking very attractive. The voice has more timbre now just as Franks' did the older he got. Thank you so much for showcasing talent.

  7. K.... B....

Young ones never heard of him

  8. f.... ....

    he wrote the arrangement!...incredible talent

  9. J.... S....

Good version, but , people, check out the Sam Cooke version.

  10. J.... A....

Man, I saw Harry perform in Chicago probably twenty years ago. What a fantastic talent!

  11. j.... b....

I had the pleasure of knowing Harry as he lived in my town when I was a kid (new cannan Ct) i used to always talk to him at starbucks. He was so nice to me and actually took the time to talk. Very gracious

  12. J.... F....

    Great stuff !!!

  13. J.... M....

    Great job Mr.Connick Jr!

  14. W.... P....

overall talent compared to the "legends," Connick Jr. hands down is the winner!

  15. m.... ....

    Perfect!

  16. B.... J....

    Great song and awesome musician!!!!🎼🎶🎵🎹🎹🎹🎹👍😀😀🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹

  17. R.... F....

    So amazing

  18. S.... S....

he's still popular with me...after 25 years, hell yah! he makes me swoon to this day.

  19. M.... M....

Alright Harry, with Count Basie's signature endup!!!

  20. C.... B....

Harry is a REAL talent and very likeable.

  21. I.... S....

Boo fraud! Boo nepotism! Boo Sony Phony! This fraud has been exposed. Native of New Orleans? No! He's a Connecticut Yankee with a bad southern accent, lots of money and a father who was a big deal at Sony Music and a stockholder in Sony Pictures. Boo... liar.

  22. M.... S....

Everything was going so well, a great smooth voice and nice accompaniment on the piano. But then the solo section was horrific. It's like someone who didn't know how to play piano, or jazz piano for that matter, jumped up and took over!? So very confused. But other than that it was great- just so sad to have that ruin the performance for me :(

    M.... S....

Mahlon Moevao Sorry I don't understand your statement on the solo part which seems clear to me. Simply it contains some modern chords and interesting accents which look unconventional if you are not used to jazz playing. Such Quick jugement could make reject great pianists like Thelonious Monk or Herbie Nichols as well. Ellington himself would have enjoyed this part I think.
Please listen again ! Everything is OK and at the right place to my ears.

    M.... S....

You should hear him in live concert. Then you'd know he really stinks on the piano. His singing is dreadful as well without auto tune.

    M.... S....

Mahlon Moevao totally agree ! He blew it

    M.... S....

this guy Mahlon is very "used to Jazz playing". I can validate his statement, and I agree lol and I normally love me some HCJ

  23. D.... M....

I would love hearing a duet with Michael Bublé and Harry Connick Jr.

    D.... M....

Duet with Norah Jones would be awesome too.

  24. M.... W....

2:14 HCJr ( and band arraignment, recognizes Ray.

  25. M.... ....

this is all so true. class act. one of a kind, legendary enrertainer. if you get a chance to see him I would recommend it highly. truly the top top level musicianship on sho and you will smile and be moved the entire time.

  26. I.... ....

    Booker schooled him well...

  27. S.... ....

    He's absolutely the bomb.Love it.

  28. m.... ....

His voice is good hear but it got even better with age.

  29. m.... ....

Why isn't he more popular today? He's an incredible singer, pianist, jazz artist, arranger and performer. WOW! This is real talent.

    m.... ....

+mysweetharmony He is still very popular in the jazz world. Every single show I've gone to over the last 20 years have been sold out. I'm sure there is some new interest since he was on the American Idol show. Besides everything you mentioned, he is also one of the best entertainers I've ever seen as well. He can charm the crowd the second he walks on stage until he leaves at the end.

    m.... ....

@ cityofchamps66.......while Buble and Krall are relevant today, their style of music is not considered "popular" music. That's why you don't hear it on mainstream radio. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE HCJr. fan. I've been listening to him since he came out and I have all his stuff. Love Buble and Krall as well, but their style of music just isn't popular when comparing it to Katy Perry and Lady GaGa and what not.

One more thing to add, I read a comment from someone on another video of his that I thought was interesting and that I agreed with. Over time, artists change......whether by nature or to keep up current trends or to grow/evolve as an artist. Harry has done that. And not necessarily in a good way. If you actually watch and listen to his early stuff when he first came out, he was more about the music and about "feeling" it. You could hear it in the way he sang and played. There were more piano solos that displayed his skills. If you listen to more of his current stuff, he's become more commercialized. Less solos and when he sings, it seems like he's "performing" rather than singing and "feeling" it. Watch some of his earlier live performances from when he first came out and then watch some of his current live performances and you'll see what I'm talking about.

    m.... ....

I think the simple answer is that he pretty much abandoned this type of music about fifteen years ago. At least that's true of his studio albums. Those big band albums had a sense of fun to them, and the arrangements were often quirky and left-field. But then he started on the route of Easy Listening music with albums such as "Your Songs," where he's covering pop songs and sounding like a cross between Perry Como and the Carpenters. He does it well, but he basically abandoned the sound that made him famous and that he was loved for. I haven't bought a Connick album in years, and I used to buy them all. And it's not that I object to people changing their genres during their singing career. But the middle-aged Connick has become rather bland - and that's something the young Connick never was.

    m.... ....

@hill Jazz will NEVER be outdated EVER!

    m.... ....

@hill Michael Buble is doing fine singing this style. Why is that? Harry started to act, and he just left the music behind, I think.

  30. K.... D....

What can I say? I enjoy the hell out of this guy.

  31. h.... m....

Harry Sr. was a detriment to society as New Orleans District Attny but Jr. has given back more than enough to make up for the old man. Harry is awesome.

  32. P.... W....

Great singer and a great musician and Actor who gives a fuck where he is from what schooling he had what his dad does And i saw him live and he is great but not to people who are Tone Deaf like the twatt below mr 2619 the failed musician and ex member of the Human Race

    P.... W....

You are so right that 2619 guy has no class. Now Harry is all class you've got to have class to recognize class. Who cares where he went to school, I went to Miami Beach High and it don't mean s__t...

    P.... W....

Harry must care! Why does he keep going on and on about New Orleans? If his father is who 2619 claims he is, how did they manage to get the former DA of New Orleans to say Harry's his son? It does explain why they picked him as an American Idol judge, when most folks outside of a few jazz buffs ever heard of him before. If one sells a product using lies and deceit, it is legally understood as fraud!

  33. J.... M....

God only gives us but so many like you. It is sorrow for all that are not as good of and man as you my friend, Sadly soon time will test you beyond any thing you can imagine ask god for wisdom in these times my friend.

  34. M.... K....

Over a period of five days after getting to know Harry and his music, I can say that he is now one of my favorite musicians. He embodies everything I seek in a swing singer, and more :)

    M.... K....

+Kansasforlife Ha, I live in Kansas City.

  35. B.... ....

This Connick Jr is a total fraud.  He's is not from New Orleans.  He's from Weston CT, where he attended public school from 1970-1982.  He's pictured in all the yearbooks for that time.   His father was never the DA in New Orleans.  Connick Sr is or was one of the bigwigs at Sony Music and a stockholder in Sony Music.  If you hear him live, he's simply awful.  Check out his live concerts and you'll know!

    B.... ....

Wow, that's wild... So he had a vendetta with you, and was trying to get you sacked, and humiliated? Crazy. Care to expand on it, how did that come about? Sorry to have misjudged you, seems you have a fair greivance

    B.... ....

    Look below, old boy!

    B.... ....

    Wikapedia says youre wrong.
Get a fuckin life loser. He is an amazing talent. You cant clean his jock strap!

    B.... ....

Hey Matey, maybe you smell poop because you are said excrement.

    B.... ....

I heard him live in the late 80's opening for Al Jarreau. What the hell are you talking about?

  36. C.... P....

    just a master...

  37. l.... ....

Harry is such an extremely accomplished musician. Great talent.

  38. C.... C....

    Awesome song, awesome performer!

  39. P.... R....

Subtle to not move but only to music like Harrys'

  40. V.... A....

He is an excellent piano player, also!

  41. J.... B....

    WOW
Wonderful version of a great oldie sung by one of the world's best performers.
    From a 70yo Aussie fan.

  42. L.... A....

I'm so pleased Harry Connick Jr. is keeping the tradition of the Crooner alive. I especially like it when he accompanies his Frank Sinatra-Mel Torme-esk vocals on piano.

  43. d.... ....

Recite these lyrics nowadays and you will be pegged as CLINICALLY DEPRESSED. You will be BAKER ACTED + lose right to possess a gun + lose professional license + lose your children.

    d.... ....

@dpetrano Ha! That's closer to the truth than many people are aware of. Such a shallow and hypocritical world.

    d.... ....

dpetrano HA funny you think so. Complaining in the form of exaggeration

  44. c.... ....

wonderful, I love it, thanks for share !

  45. S.... R....

    Smooth..love it!

  46. L.... W....

Oh why has he not married me??? :)

  47. J.... D....

    One of our treasures..

  48. S.... H....

Haha, anyone else hear the "I Get Rhythm" quote?

    S.... H....

NOW YOU'RE SAYING THAT YOU DON'T HAVE RHYTHM
BUT LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT THERE

    S.... H....

Could you miss it? I mean really?!?

  49. M.... l....

    фантастика!!!!!!

  50. J.... B....

    Same thing I said....

  51. J.... S....

Thru headphones, you can hear the stereo separation, especially the hand clapping at 40th. second. Then the drum rolling, the double bass....and so on.

  52. N.... T....

I have this VHS tape also, but when I listened to it on here it does not seem to be in stereo, so I dug out my old VCR and popped my tape of this concert into it and wah lah S-T-E-R-E-O, I donno what was the matter here. This is my favorite Harry Connick, Jr., recording, audio or video, by far, the best. I to looked around for a DVD, but can't find it on DVD. Guess it wasn't popular for that at the time. To bad, I'd love to see it reissued on BluRay DVD.

    N.... T....

I have it on VHS, as well. Can't find it on DVD anywhere!

  53. N.... ....

on his cheek glisten of sweat

  54. N.... ....

    Thank you.

  55. L.... R....

I'd like to suggest you listen to the beautiful lyrics of this songs:
    youtube.com/user/ActiveHeed?feature=watch
The name of band is Active Heed

    They're just great!

  56. J.... B....

What is the VHS tape called?

  57. J.... B....

I even think that Frank Sinatra would have highly approved of this version.
    Wonderful---Wonderful=What a superstar
    Well done.

  58. M.... D....

i know i have some of his vhs tapes, i wish they would make dvds or blue rays of them.

  59. d.... ....

This is just fantastic! As good--if not better--than the recording! Jazz music needs to make a huge comeback, especially in England; it hasn't really hit us big in years and we have some fantastic hidden talents!!!

  60. k.... d....

Yes, he's a wonderful, talented jazzman !! Gives me so much inspiration to play well too !

  61. C.... T....

He must have studied a lot, he is wonderful

  62. w.... ....

@aaronhanken ROFLMHO!!! Not hardly. I am a French Quarter jazz lover and have been playing the drums on such scenes for over 20 years. Relax. And even if you don't understand what I said, if you like the music...don't worry about it, dude, you are there..

  63. J.... S....

Converted from VHS Tape. I've been looking for it on the DVD...but so far no luck!!

  64. 6.... ....

    is this concert on dvd?

    6.... ....

Tough to find BUT, YES in DVD
    as IS "NOLA" C.D.

  65. w.... ....

One of kind and the best I can remember for quite some time. And so right on the spot at 2:15 as they breathe life into an already swinging song. Thanks for posting this..never can get enough of this kind of talent. They take a traditional ending and really make it seem like a first time orginal.
