Concrete Blonde - Still In Hollywood Lyrics
I was walking down the street early this morning
Past the graveyard, voices whisper to me.
I was walking down the street, early this morning
And the silver tears of rain hung from the leaves
And I swear I heard the voices singing to me...
I swear I heard the voices singing to me -
Keep on, keep on, keep on.
Still in Hollywood!
oh WOW! Thought I'd be out of here by now.
Still in Hollywood!
My, my I'm running on a wheel and I don't know why
I don't know why.
And on the bus today, I met the queen of L.A. -
She was sixty-five and full of life,
She had purple-painted cheeks
And glitter on her eyes
And the troll on the corner, I flipped him a quarter
And he looked at me and smiled.
He wasn't abused, he wasn't confused,
He had nothing to gain and less to lose in Hollywood
Oh WOW! Thought I'd be out of here by now.
Still in Hollywood!
My, my I'm running like a rat and I don't know why
And so it's three A.M., I'm out walking again.
I'm just a spot on the sidewalk in a city of sin.
He doesn't give a fuck, he's living under a truck.
You know it coulda been me, guess it's just my luck.
But I swear I hear the voices singing to me -
Keep on, keep on, keep on.
Still in Hollywood...

Concrete Blonde Still In Hollywood Comments
Gawd I miss this band.
"Still in Hollywood, ..." Twelve years later.
"So it's 3am, and I am walking again. I'm just a spot on the sidewalk out in the city of sin. He doesn't give a fuck..." I guess she's talking about God.
This could have been three friends of mine, who were a little younger, but they were not in Hollywood. They were stuck in cow town. Great writers and performers live and die all the time without the world getting a sniff.
28 morons as of 11-2019
sometimes stupeedo is better
Fantastic song!!!!!!👌👌👌👍👍👍💪💪💪
Those who "thumbs down" get your damn ears checked ASAP and/or acquire some taste.
this has the energy of hearing the theme song of the show during the climax of the last episode
capo 1st fret, A/E/C/D, and then A/E/C/G
This song describes how I felt right before I moved out of L.A back to NYC.
Really? Who has ever seen a woman living under a truck?
The tamborine makes it.
Cant.dig
This.scrw.hollygrewt78.....
Ha. I live a few blocks away from where they shot this video. Looks like thye used the garage of my old company too
seen them more then a few times... one of my Favorite bands of all times
This video is just so indie and alternative... I love it!
"what's the matter, mature young man? goin' to hollywood, gonna be a bigshot? that town's gonna suck you up and spit you out! you ain't gonna have a pot to piss in! ... Don't come back to ME for a job! You made your bed, now SLEEP IN IT! ... Goin to work for these Kaplins brothers, who are dey anyway? This Stewie and Myles Kaplin! (Copeland). You'ain't gonna have a dime! ... Big shot!"
I saw them live once. Great concert.
AAhh good stuff. They dont make music like this any more.
Saw these guys at Hammerjacks in Baltimore when they were first starting out. They rocked that place and I still love their sound.Very underrated group. Big Sexy from Bodymore.
AT: *1:37* ? Anyone notice Henry Rollins looking out the window @ 1:37 ? He's waiting for the man, before he went straight edge! (& Yes I know!)
kind of weird how many music videos were shot in my old apartment or on the roof of it. They were literally over my living room in this one.
She rhymes fuck with truck and luck. Gotta love that.
HE HAD NOTHING TO GAIN AND A LOT TO LOSE
30 years ago I was still in Hollywood, finally made it out in 1990. Still love this band!
Great song...rockin'!
Still in North Hollywood!
I've never seen this video until today and it was everything I wanted it to be.
I absolutely love Johnette! Such talent. Songwriting, voice, musician. I miss those days when rock Rocked
Reminds me of late night listening to KXLU
Here because of The Hidden, who else remembers this great bad movie?
Did they ever get back to Brazil?? Hope u r good
Hey..I googled concrete blonde and your site came up! Cyndy from California...lol
I would have thought this song and video came out in '92 or '93... Concrete Blonde were ahead of their time!
I used to listen to this when i was a teenager i believe i still have this on VHS. Now im about to be 31 😢 Good times
FUCK YEAH!!! I AM 14 YEARS OLD AGAIN, DITCHING SCHOOL AND BLASTING THIS IN MY CONVERTIBLE CRUISING DOWN SUNSET...!!!!!
THE HIDDEN!
The year was 1982, and everyone wanted to be Patti Smith
I discovered this song back in '88 when I saw the film The Hidden - I was totally obsessed with the song then and love it now.
Ditto and ditto
Haha, I love The Hidden, one of my all time favorites, but I knew then band before that, I worked in a record store in those days.
This song and album has a particular scent somehow. You can taste it.
Excellent job on these...
What has happened to the alternative version? I can no longer find it anywhere.
I must be dense, because I can't find it. Could you please link me if you get a chance?
Frank Talk It’s called It’ll Chew You Up and Spit You Out. Love it!
Frank Talk https://youtu.be/uvrtclftgeI
I know that, but the link shows it unavailable in NZ, which is what I really needed to know -- so thank you for the link!
Frank Talk You're welcome. Anything for a Kiwi.
I first heard this in 1988 from a rented video of The Hidden.
dude why is this song not more popular? it is the motherfucking shit!! i survived the 80s and the 90s and it is the best song.. sing it alot.. I fucking love it! my only wish is that I cannot smite the 13 people that dont like this song why the fuck would you watch it if you dont like it.. wtf..
BEST Concrete Blonde line up and thee best song. I remember Harry.
I remember seeing this on that one video show that was on KDOC. I don't recall this being in rotation on MTV.
Timeless,placeless,applies universally
Makes me wanna be back on Hollywood
iggie should team up with her ya know he was voted most likely to sucksed and all
Johnette......CRAZY cool
yeah im fucking crazy so what i can do
LOVE IT!
still listen to this album lots a classic, does it get any better? the guitar just rips in this song
Does North Hollywood count too? :-)
Riaakiller of course ! 😀
Riaakiller technically no because it's the 818. In fact, people hated natives of the valley back then. I know, I'm from next door, Burbank. Personally tho, it does.
She is also Super Nice and very deeply kind! The guys are so sweet too!
Is it just me, or is she just so damn cute in this video???
Mix that look with that awesome voice and it's like watching an avenging angel coming to earth.
I remember reading about the band in an a magazine during this period, called "OM" or ONLY MUSIC. She still had the cropped du; I liked it so much more than the long bob du she had during Bloodletting.
No...She slayed me...
Nope...Jonette Napolitano was so fucking cool. I had the honor of meeting her and she was just the sweetest.
@killjoy27 Agreed.
rocks rules¡¡¡¡¡
I first heard these guys on NZs Radio With Pictures in the late 80s. They topped my must find vinal list for 3 or 4 years till I secured it. Still in my collection. Never forgotten, its a piece of my punk soul.
things were just so raw and real back then. Aw hell, I sound like an old fogey. I probably am one.
the most real you can be is playing yourself on a reality show
We anit old just got class
Joanne, go walk up and down Hollywood Blvd on any night of the week, just as freaky and sleazy as the early 80's.
Oh come on. Nothing was any more or less real. It's just nostalgia.
They were raw and real
I love the end of this song where one of the band members is quoting his father on life in a rock band lol.
Brilliant.
I caught a show about a year ago. She may not be as hot as in this video but GODDAMN can she SING!
You are one of the lucky few who have seen this band live. Johnette's vocals are better than any Taylor Swift song getting a Grammy right now. She is just a hard working girl singing. Proves not all good talent is good enough for the moguls in the recording industry.
if a dude aged as well as Johnette...yeah so no, and she's all heart
Great, underrated song! I included this in my book "Greatest Misses: Deep Cuts and Forgotten Songs from the Shadows of Classic Rock." (I reached outside traditional classic rock for a few of the tracks.)

sEXY AS HELL
my ex wifes grandma was the Queen of LA dressed in purple. RIP Grandma Anne. you were something else.
Only honoring, not questioning
THE HIDDEN L ' ALIENO

First heard this awesome song in a skateboard video by tony hawk's company called birdhouse projects in 1992, I was 14, I never forgot how awesome it was...thanks for posting! Rick n roll!!
same here man, it was Matt Beachs song.loved those vids
Johnette is a one FUCKING AWESOME BASS PLAYER!!!!!
Memories of me and my friends in Hollyweird
"What's the matter with you young man going to Hollywood going to a be a big shot that town going to suck you up and spit you out don't come back to me for a job you made your bed now sleep in it go to work for these Kaplan brothers....
Anyone know the inside scoop on that wonderful ending?
The other longer more rocking version on Youtube includes spicier dialogue
+GreenCanvasInteriorscape They were the owners of IRS records. They were signed but IRS records. They had REM at the time...that was about it.
+GreenCanvasInteriorscape I think the name was Copeland. The Copelands owned IRS records.
+Daniel happy Thank you!
so damn good , so damn underrated
She's still performing. Additionally, she still Practices & is very close to Jim Manky. You should look up her Solo Album with the Song "Save Me!"
Plus the Bloodletting Album is crucial since the dude who did the Underworld Movie(s) used the Blonde for some of the Soundtrack.
BTW, she still has a website that has an email address for her. I'm sure that it is screened by a trusted Member of her career, but in over 24 years Ms. Napolitano has replied directly to me each time.
Killer tune.
yea so many years ago 120 min, the young ones the era I guess I call or say shaped me .
I first saw this on MTV's 120 minutes... it blew my 14 year old, suburban mind, man...
I lived in HOLLYWOOD CA from 1999 till 2008...had a FUCKING BLAST
Lotus 3, track no 2 :)
The Hidden
YEAHHHH!!!!!! THE HIDDEN FOREVER
YES such a great bad movie
just avoid hidden 2 as that one is just a bad bad movie
thank you for writing it so we could play it

This makes me wanna skate again, I'm 38
never stop what you love to do....hence my name lol
Get yer board out and skate.
It's been 5 years. Did you skate again?
Condemn ME! Stop ME! I hear VOICESSS in my head , in a SEA of SIN of 3:00 A.M. the demonic hour burning in full throttle, MADDNESSS is racing let me crash let me FALL I don’t give a fuck I’m a BURNING STAR!!
Maybe she's Schizophrenic, hence the sidewalk thing. Schizophrenic or not, this chick had a hell of a voice.
The Guitar guy has the same last name as me!
What about the"Y"???
The Hidden, diner scene, when he was eating. Good song and good movie
merci, souvenirs, souvenirs...
very underrated band.
This was the reason I bought the cassette.
or Janis Joplin
Johnette has the best voice in the business. These phony Brittany Spears types are so lame and have no class or character unlike Johnette who has incredible style and talent
I love the cat at the start.
such a timeless track
the only thing that i do not like about concrete blonde and johnette, is when the song ends, it is kind of like good sex, you just want more
What's wrong with that?
I first heard this song on a local radio show that introduces new talent called "Dangerous Xposure" in the early 90's. It's one of those songs I just have to hear every now and then. This bands always had talent and passion, which seems rarer and rarer as the years go by.
I was lucky enough to see them in Vancouver in '91, oh man they burned the place down! Small venue with a bouncing floor, one of the best concerts of my life! I miss them :(
Commodore Ballroom rules.
Saw them at the Wave in Honolulu. They tore it up! goddam
Reading below, seems alot of people picked this up from the hidden, lol!!!!!
Just saw a good old movie called the hidden and this song caught my ear, gonna download an album or two from concrete blonde.
I made it a point to memorize these lyrics at age 8
