DETROIT WHAT! At first I was like? But the song is catchy. Big Seans lyrics are simple and his metaphors are humorous. They might not be the most original but he delivers them with style. There is a reason a legendary producer like NO I.D. is supporting this guy. With this album you can tell that some of the beats Dion may have made with Big Sean in mind ended up going to Common. I feel Common wanted to try to reach out to a new audience. There is one song in particular where it almost seems like he is channeling Big Sean.

I have been a Common fan since day one and while I may not particularly like this direction I can understand wanting to appeal to the younger generation. And it is difficult to do that without alienating some of your original fans. To me this song is a happy medium. I can imagine hearing it in a club. The message may be wasted on most but just maybe something will get through to a new fan and that new fan will want to explore Common's earlier releases and become a fan of old school hip hop. You never know.
