Collins, Phil - I Like The Way Lyrics

I look out the window every day, I see the world go by
Watching I sit and wait for you
Just hoping you'll catch my eye
You see me stare but I don't care
I like the way you smile
One day I'll get to talk to you
Ooh, right now well I'm too shy

But in my world of make believe
You're the one what I need, oh, oh...

I could imagine me with you
But it's an impossibility
I'd love to try to realise, I gotta deal with reality
But if you turn my way, I'd look away, ooh even face-to-face
And deep inside me, inside my mind
Someone else is trying to take my place

But in my world of make believe
You're the one what I need, oh, oh...
Oh, come with me, I'll show you everything
Come with me, ooh
Come with me, I'll show you everything
It could be, come along with me and let me take you there, oh, oh...

I look out the window every day, I see the world go by
Watching I sit and wait for you
Ooh, just hoping that you'll walk by
But if you turn my way, I'd look away, ooh even face-to-face
And deep inside, ooh in my mind
Someone else is trying to take my place

In my world of make believe
You're the one what I need, oh, oh...

Come with me, ooh
Come with me, I'll show you everything
It could be, come along with me and let me take you there, oh, oh...

All of my life, come with me, come with me, come with me...
All of my life...
I like the way you smile
All of my life...

Collins, Phil I Like The Way Comments
  1. H.... ....

The music is great, the lyrics are the issue perhaps.

  2. J.... ....

This track will finally be getting a proper release on the upcoming 'Other Sides' compilation

    J.... ....

    You were right!

  3. Y.... J....

This is one of the many songs that proved just how much soul Phil is infused with. This was a very overlooked song, why i don't know. It's a very good dance tune infused with Phil's customary soulful and powerful vocals. Anybody who hasn't heard this song needs to hear it. Chances are you'll have a new favorite Phil Collins tune. Phil's my favorite singer,by far. And this song right along with his hits is the perfect example of just how dynamic of a performer Phil has always been.

    Y.... J....

    It just happened.
This treasure will soon be part of my
    "dawn and sunset-mix"
I love listening to atmospheric music while riding the bus to school

  4. 9.... T....

    Good music.

  5. S.... V....

It's a shame this track and "The Man With The Horn" were NOT released on his No Jacket Required remastered edition. I was SOOO looking forward to that, big downer! :(
    Thanks for posting this gfac2285.
If this is off a record you did an awesome job editing!!! No pops or scratches. Kudos to you my friend!

  6. s.... ....

absolute banger of a tune! INCREDIBLE!

  7. K.... M....

yes the one that got away

  8. R.... R....

Leland Sklar playing bass on this track?

  9. e.... g....

Phil Collins could have given to Michael Jackson perfectly

  10. J.... ....

It's a shame that Phil himself dislikes this song. It's not the deepest thing ever written, but I love the strong dance sound and it really has that MJ/Prince influence.

    J.... ....

Phil collins vocal are by another word.

  11. M.... M....

I know where PC is coming from in saying its a bit iffy, it doesnt have any individual qualities. It sounds like a mashup of Sussudio, Dont Stop Til You Get Enough and Wanna Be Startin' Something. Probs one of my least favourites of his

  12. s.... ....

    I love finding rare songs!

    s.... ....

    sadetwizelve same here

  13. T.... K....

Great song!! I'm a big fan of phil. But sadly I have to say this, it sounds like it's ripped off from Michael jacksons wanna be starting something

  14. n.... t....

This sounds like a Nintendo win menu theme mixed with a Jackson song.

    n.... t....

    nicky Uann 100% agree 😂😂😂

  15. s.... ....

finally not included this great song on " no jacket required " reissue , I'm so angry!!

    s.... ....

I was just thinking the same thing, what a wasted opportunity to give these lost songs some revival. Hopefully someday they'll put out an album of JUST Phil's rarities and B sides since there's so many.

    s.... ....

Phil Collins needs to make a CD with songs that were Omitted from each album like Face Value No Jacket Required And Testify etc

    s.... ....

They probably thought it was too similar to Sussudio. In fact when I first heard this song I wondered if it was an early version of it (much like "Homeless" for Another Day in Paradise)

    s.... ....

tdark987 they have that version of Another Day In Paradise homeless on the But Seriously Deluxe version though

    s.... ....

I wasn't aware of that, in that case it does definitely seem like a silly oversight. Unless of course they're planning to make a separate album of B-sides and previously unreleased tracks.

  16. B.... C....

Thanks for posting this. I had the 7" single on vinyl back in the mid-80s, but over the years with all the moves and technology advancements and so on, lost track of it. I have fond memories of this song and am pissed that it's not readily available for purchase in any of the outlets I have looked for it. I consider it to be one of the three best songs to have come out of the Sussudio sessions.

  17. K.... Q....

Has a very 80's sound to it - Collins should of included this on NJR, in favor over 'One More Night'

    K.... Q....

+KMan C Well...No it's not better than "One More Night", but it beats "Who said I would" easily.

    K.... Q....

Agree. The only song I don´t like is "Who said I would".

    K.... Q....

One More Night is essential to the album and one of the biggest 80s hits, can't drop that one (also need some ballads to round it out). I actually like "who said I would", it's pretty hard rocking for him. The whole album is great but if I HAD to bump off one song, it'd be "doesn't anybody stay together" or maybe "long way to go".

  18. C.... ....

As much as I like Phil Collins, I must admit that this is possibly the worst song I've heard from him, seconded by Hearts on Fire (a Genesis B-side).

    C.... ....

+CoTeCiOtm Will have to disagree there. David Frank's sequenced moog bass and DMX programming (as on "Sussudio") give this such an edge. Also, the sonics and production are fantastic.

    C.... ....

@James Reeno I have to agree there, the production of this song is great, as it is the whole No Jacket Required album, but I insist that the song is quite terrible, at least for me. Sussudio, which has a similar vibe, is far better.

    C.... ....

+CoTeCiOtm For what it's worth, Phil agrees with you. I wasn't surprised that it's not being included on the NJR reissue considering his distaste for it. Personally, I think it's a cool song. I like it as much as most of what made the album.

    C.... ....

CoTeCiOtm Phil agrees , I hear he thinks its dodgy as well

  19. B.... P....

all of Phil Collins's albums are going to be re released and remastered. There will be songs that he never released before. I hope this one will be in the No Jacket Required reissue. look it up on Google news.

    B.... P....

Oh no! Not remastered. Ehhh. I don't purchase remasters anymore. I had enough of the negative sound qualities of them. This song stupidly is not on the 2016 remaster with the current age front cover of his face. Just a bunch of live performances and demos.

  20. S.... S....

this sounds exactly as - > "Don't stop Til You get Enough, MJ

    S.... S....

+Tanita Singano I have no idea what you are hearing.

    S.... S....

    +Tanita Singano good observation

    S.... S....

Tanita Singano the songs are in totally different keys though?

  21. t.... ....

Reminds me a little of Sussudio

    t.... ....

Yes this song i truly believe Phil had Sussido in mind. I like the way was punctuated by the pheonix horns just like Sussido and also too there's an instrument in like the way that was used in phil's hit Take my home. Not sure which instrument but you can hear it.

  22. J.... B....

Im kinda hearing Scritti Polliti in this song!

    J.... B....

    Good comparison

    J.... B....

    Absolutely Scritti Politti.

    J.... B....

    Definitely!!!

    J.... B....

Probably because of David Frank from The Systems synth bass work on this who also worked on Ssudio and later Scritti Pollitis Cupid and Psyche

  23. c.... ....

phil copied this from The Jacksons,"Don't stop Til You get Enough.

  24. C.... ....

With a little tweeking this would have fit perfectly on "No Jacket Required".

  25. D.... ....

    I totally agree!!!

  26. g.... ....

Absolutely, I wish he would too. He's got more than enough to make up a 2 CD set full of that stuff.

    g.... ....

gfac2285 this should have been on the deluxe version of No Jacket Required cuz coming on here doesn’t do me any good cuz I have a iPod and this would sound better with a pair of Bose headphones

  27. W.... ....

Phil should release an archive album featuring these rare B sides, demo's and remixes. He's probably got tons of unreleased stuff in the vault.

    W.... ....

Your wish has come true, coming to streaming services at the end of May, both a B sides/demos compilation and a remix compilation
