Collins, Judy - Sometime Down The Road Lyrics

Sometime down the road
Maybe when we're grey and old
We'll be together
Just when nobody knows
Cause at our journey's end
Where the river bends
I'll be waiting there my friend
We'll be loving once again
Sometime down the road

Take my hand across, across the sea
And fly with me
To a place where hearts transcend
And time is standing still
Travel through the shining stars

Beyond out galaxy
What a thrill if we will
Keep trusting our destiny

Sometime down the road
Maybe when we're grey and old
We'll be together
Just when nobody knows
Cause at our journey's end
Where the river bends
I'll be waiting there my friend
We'll be loving once again
Sometime down the road

When our souls have crossed the ocean
We'll meet again
When the troubled water calms
And the clouds have all gone by
We will stand together
On a shore of peace my friend
You and I through the sky
We'll be carried beyond the wind

Sometime down the road
Maybe when we're grey and old
We'll be together
Just when nobody knows
Cause at our journey's end
Where the river bends
I'll be waiting there my friend
We'll be loving once again
Sometime down the road

Earthbound I am filled with
Doubts and loneliness
Lift my spirits to thoughts much higher
Of dreams we still have left

Sometime down the road
Maybe when we're grey and old
We'll be together
Just when nobody knows
Cause at our journey's end
Where the river bends
I'll be waiting there my friend
We'll be loving once again
Sometime down the road

Thanks for the posting. Mart is my Uncle. The secret of Mart is that he had a 5 octave range and a right hand of velvet thunder while playing the guitar.

"..... the heart that sorrow broke in you can never be repaired....." Judy Collins is a gifted songwriter.

Many thanks for this post. Judy Collins is my personal favourite female singer, This is one of my favourite songs of herts. It never fails to get me where I live. My spouse Nonie bough us tickets to see Judy Collins in concert, as birthday present for me. Many moons ago now in my home town of Hatfield in Hertfordshire.

I knew Marty out in Rough Rock the summer of 1970. We traded songs deep into the night. A lovely man - who never once let on about his depression.:-(

Anyone who knew Marty or thinks of knowing him through this song will thank you for your comment. Of all the songs Collins wrote and recorded, this is one of her very best.

Hi Mary, thanks for your comment. Mart is my Uncle, my Mother's youngest brother. It's nice to connect with a fellow traveler of his Being. I have a web-site with a music page that may interest you and a video here on the tube. All the best, Gilbert

I have always loved this song by Ms. Collins because I can relate to it so strongly. I hope anyone who hears it will change their minds about ending their lives and know that no matter how horrible life can be, it is still a beautiful world and you can rise above whatever pain or cruelty you have endured. Love.

Thanks for this comment. Some songs from our early years become part of us for sure.

I hope this song saves many people who might be contemplating suicide, for the emptiness and pain that is left behind to those that knew and loved you never goes away.

This breaks my heart whenever I hear it.  What a gift Judy has for telling a story in song.  No one can equal the purity of her voice and her sentiment.  I heard her at the Granada Theater in Dallas recently.  She is now 75, but her voice is pure and lovely.  What a gift the Lord has given her for so many, many years, and still performing.  Amazing!

So true Barbara. I just saw Judy in concert last week, the first time in like 20 years and she was Phenomenal!

Sorry, looks like it was 1973 upon reading the lyrics.

One of the best, along with Che, from the magnificent but very undervalued album, True Stories and Other Dreams, released here in Australia in about 1970 or thereabouts.A big thanks VBH!

Thank you Peter for jumping in with your comment. I appreciate it very much.

This album is without a doubt one, if not her best ever. Listen to her song "Big Sur" on her album, BOHEMIAN; it would have fit on True Stories very nicely.

This song, composed by Judy Collins, and her singing of it, are even more beautiful than I remember. Thanks for sharing this gem, VanBurenHigh.
