This was a favorite album of mine back then circa 1995. This track and "The World I Know" were my two favorites. But good grief, what a BORING album cover. Just the band's name written in that gel looking goop on a blue background (popular in the '90's).

@John Rankin Sure anyone can interpret anything from songs, but most songs have a distinctly original message to convey. "Smashing Young Man" is a wonderfully developed snub against Billy Corgan's cry of plagiarism back in the 1990s, over the nonexistent similarity between Collective Soul's "Shine" and his "Rhinosaurus".

This was one of the first albums I ever owned. I've worn it out more times than I can count. Absolutely amazing album.
Oh and the SP song "Drown" is the song he claimed was ripped off by Roland to make Shine. There is a bit of a similarity, but not enough to claim it was a ripoff.

Never was a Kobain or Nirvana fan. I've watched rock digress since the early 70s...You either like what you heard in the 90s and beyond or not. Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc, were bands that would have succeeded in the late 60s/early 70s, the rest, uh, no.

@mrOrange1251 lol it is look! This song is about Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy tried to sue the band after "Shine" was a hit - he claimed they copied his song "Rhinosauris." However, "Shine" was featured on a Ed Roland demo back in 1987 long before Billy wrote his song. The case was thrown out. (thanks, Aaron - Chicago, IL)
