Cole, Nat King - Where Did Everyone Go? Lyrics
It wasn't my intention to eavesdrop,
But there a guy sat, two stools away,
And you could tell the bartender knew him
And that he'd been there some other day.
And while I sipped my libation,
"Remember
How I'd walk in,
What excitement there would be?
Never less than twenty people,
I had lots of friends, you see.
"I gave the party, I was the host.
Everyone loved me,
I was the most.
"Champagne and plenty of it,
Real imported caviar,
And the hat check girl got fifty
Just for lighting my cigar.
"I kept 'em laughin', jokes by the yard.
Everyone loved me,
I was a card.
"And I had a girl,
A beautiful girl,
Her whole world, I think, consisted of mink
And diamonds and pearls.
"Because she was mine,
I'd glitter and shine,
And life was a ball, and wasn't it all
So cozy 'n fine?
"But nothing lasts forever,
And the deepest well runs dry.
Just 'cause I've stopped rolling sevens
Doesn't mean I have to cry.
"I'll take that nightcap,
One more won't show.
And incidentally...maybe you know...
Where, oh, where, oh, where
Did everyone go?"
"Where, oh, where, oh, where
Did everyone go?"

Cole, Nat King Where Did Everyone Go? Comments
The orchestration on these tracks is amazing. World class.
This song helped turned my life around from the nightlife and those phony so-called friends. Thanks Nat but most of all thanks Betts, my wife, for buying me the album of the same name.
Anyone know where I can get the chords of this song from please?
MY GOD...THE VIOLINS!!! Gave me shivers through the whole thing!! never heard this piece before...And I thought i had heard ALL OF NATS MUSIC!!! Nat and the incomparable Gordon Jenkins..supurb!! as is "when the world was young" terrific ballads...singer..arranger..conductor!!
Beyond superb !!!
Your taste in the music you post is amazing. Keep it up.
By the way, the arrangement by Gordon Jenkins absolutely helps Nat sell the song. It might be nice if you were to mention the arrangers once or twice.
A wistful track beautifully sung by Nat. The entire album is in the same league as "In
The Small Wee Hours", but has been utterly overlooked which is a shame because it
is a gem. His last masterpiece.
Superb in every aspect of this track. Thank You, Nat!
My favorite NKC album.
MzJanuary Back in the 70's this song helped turned my life around. Thanks Nat.
Couldn't be released in 1960, as it was recorded in August 1962! I think this album was rather released in 1963.
VICTOR BALIT ...This classic LP was released in both mono and stereo on May 27th, 1963.

He is the best and I dedicate his songs to Jodi Jean Sanders (we met on Monday,17 April 1978) and Angela Margaret Cisneros (we met in September 1989). Jodi is someone she was not meant to be my wife and Angela is my ex-wife. A pair bonding that will never happened Jodi and I with one that dissolved Angela and I. October 2011.
Wonderful. Thank you.
