Cold Chisel - Wild Colonial Boy Lyrics

I am a wild colonial boy
My name you'll never see
My land is ruled by Anglophiles
And forces foreign to me
I do not curse your referees
In boardrooms far away
Yeah who am I to question these
Who plan their final day

I've never known the jealousies
The overcrowded pain
I live and breathe the silences
The dust where no man reigns

I'm in love,
I got blazing light
Ten thousand miles of ocean
I'm alone
And there's more like me
Ignoring the end of their show

And when they shaft my brother dear
And pay him off with lies
I fill my hand with the Union card
And aim between their eyes

And if I smile,
When they crawl around
Too condescending to blame me
I am young,
Baby they're so old
Gothic, religious and tame

I am just a wild colonial boy
My name you'll never see
I breathe the silence that destroys
All their desperate harmony

  5. t.... c....

    Unbelievable🤪 thanks

  6. M.... D....

Here's a question. Two actually. Why can't we see the rest of this gig? I'd pay $50 for a DVD of this era Chisel. And yeah, who's the six numpties who gave this video a thumbs down. FFS...

  7. S.... H....

    Ian Moss owns that song!!

  8. B.... A....

Jimmy had laryngitis during this gig, that's why he's struggling through song. Especially during the intro (you can hear Mossy over the top of him). Also Mossy's using the same guitar from the "Forever Now" clip. Just wish more of the gig was released! Thanks mate!

  9. S.... H....

    So good. What a band!

  10. J.... B....

and this is why they are fucking legends.

  16. s.... d....

live and raw...one of the best recordings...saw them live many times - those were the days..

  17. U.... ....

Keep coming back to watch this. Love Jimmy, but love the rest too. Mossy was on fire.

  18. h.... ....

Not an easy song to play live, and they do it well here, even though Barnesy makes a bit of a meal of the vocals with his vodka swill. The aggression is there in the drumming, Barnesy helps visually by conducting the beat like an orchestra conductor with his clapping, even when he isnt singing.

  19. U.... ....

Fuck, Mossy was working out in those days.

  20. U.... ....

This is the best recording of this song I've heard

  21. U.... ....

I didn't much care for this song from chisel when I first heard it. It's grown on me.

  22. T.... M....

Favorite track.Favorite band.Best drum song ever! Favorite drummer.

  23. P.... B....

this song reminds me of sympathy for the devil by the stones

This night at the Playroom was a bloody ripper😆..always had a great time at that compact black painted hotbox of Aussie music..even when security got out of hand because most of us were underage and the argy bargy was taken out the side double door in the alleyway and fists would fly n glass be shattered..we would just sneak back in to see the gigs by any means possible af the time..bribery with other staff, sweet talkin, making friends with the roadies and band members..we would just tell em..'hey we paid our cash to come see you guys.'.. and usually a long drive from Brissie with a panelvan full of rock n roller punk kidz with weird short n long haircuts and who just wanted to have some fun n mischief while jumpin about like crazy and singin our lungs out to some fantastic Aussie Rock music that was fueled to overflowing with lightening and body altering substances of all kinds..the gigs were always so exciting..half the time we didn't even know if we'd get in the front bloody doors of a club..and we had been told by older (legal age)friends that if you could crack the entry code of the PLAYROOM, then any club entry was up for grabs after that..'we always kept tik stubs or wrist bands and all sorts of paraphenalia to show that we had become regulars at this mischievious den fiendz..it was a point of pride to say we had managed to lie and cheat and sneak an scurry our ways into every gig possible at the time..even the dodgey barb wire fence at the back of the club where they kept the empty beer kegs and where the band and roadies came in was not off limits to kids who just 'had to' see their favourite Aussie bands..we all bled red to see groups we enjoyed..everything was so vibrant and dangerous and scarg good and oh so bloody fantastically amazing seeing live bands that exploded onto small hot or cold or smelly or beer stained or sweaty or such smoke filled stages covered in milk crates and black roadie gaffa tape that you might have thought you were in a London fog or in a war zone..it was the pure beautiful energy of the crowd then combined with the band and the music that made it the best thing to do six nights a weeks..live n loud music was every where..we spent whole pay packets chasing gig after bloody gig..and I can probably say this for a lot of people who were there at the time period..we would do this gladly and suffer the consequences of being terminally broke from one pay to the next just to be right in the magical mischievious middle of all the raucus rock n bloody roll and sweat n dance an sing and fight n scream n yell an love and go crazy do what music fiendz love doin..burn brightly like there is no tomorrow and that this 'gig' is gunna be 'the gig'..but they were all The Best Bloody Gigs..and if given the opportunity to knock Dr Who over the noggin and steal his TARDIS for a month or two..I would do it in a heartbeat..then pile in all the lads n lasses and even the Doc and go check out Chisel or the Angels or Divinyls, INXS, Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, Spy v Spy, Mental as Anything and oh so many more..there isn't enough space here to say the bands, the gigs or the pubs clubs and filthy dives we saw our fave bands in..wecdidn't always feel safe at some shows but hey..thats rock n roll..or it was at the time..it was the scary nature that made it so exciting to kids of 15 16 17 years of age..even as we got legal it was still a blast..and thanks to the music that we still love..I guess it always shall remain so..anyone wanna join me in anmoyin the nursing staff at the old folks home when we get there..we'll crank up some Angels and blow the doors off of the pharmacy and drag race the wheelchairs in the hall till management's eyes bleed...hehehehehehe😄😃😂😁😅😄😆😈😈😈😈..
    😉💜👍(/-\)

I actually read all that... great portrait of such an awesome time period in Australian music.

    S.... Z....

Benjamin Barnes cheers Benjamin..had many good nights at that place and chasing Chisel all over the countryside.. always great live and very loud ("/)

  25. t.... ....

Where do you go after this? I just stared at the screen for 10 minutes after it finished. Mixed feelings of sadness and elation were profound and complex.

  26. B.... B....

  27. N.... T....

Impossible to even try and cover......where do you start?

  28. N.... F....

Australian music..as Barnesy once shouted in the The Barking spiders live..."fucking Classic"

  29. A.... H....

I agree with all the comments here, this is pure Chisel. I just love how Don Walker keeps an eye on them all, as you were boys! Love it, thanks for uploading.

  30. D.... B....

Magic! Just a few blocks from where I lived :)

  31. J.... S....

what are the football jerseys that Jimmy is wearing and were can I find them

  32. l.... ....

Wow!! Pure Chisel awesomeness. I have not seen footage from this show before. Is there more? Chisel in their absolute prime.

  33. A.... N....

OMG Mossy!! Big song this one. One of the best bands I ever saw.

  34. m.... d....

Hey Benjamin Barnes, where is the footage from the rest of this show? Lots of camera angles suggest it was being documented for viewing at a later stage. There has to be more than this around?

  35. m.... d....

What a band. Jim probably been singing twenty odd shows, like a pro soldiers on vodka at hand. Moss looks across at him smiling and goes to town. Easily the greatest rock guitarist to come out of Australia. Even Barnesy knows Moss is is on fire this night. A phenomenal band of musicians. Never to be repeated..

  36. S.... B....

    Fuck yeh.

  37. D.... M....

If there are more tracks from this night- release them all on CD - never seen Mossy play as good as this.

    D.... M....

Mossy is on fire. Even Barnes is impressed here..

  38. P.... O....

Chisel in their hey day, absolutely iconic, no better band in the world, great players and still bloody close to the best band in the world today even tho they havnt played that much together for over 30 years, god bless Steve Prestwich, sadly missed

  39. c.... ....

    Fucking awesome upload dude!

  40. O.... F....

    FUCKING CLASSIC.

  41. o.... ....

Circus Animals was in my opinion the best guitar album cold Chisel produced! Great stuff!!!

    o.... ....

    oncall21 agreed mate!

  42. P.... ....

I live on the Gold Coast. Everytime I drive past where the Playroom was before they demolished it and stuck up a fucking stupid kids sports field (I live in Burleigh)  I just want to find out the people involved march them out back of their house and shoot them. WTF were they thinking? Grotty place but that was it's appeal. That and all the bands.

  43. M.... E....

Fuck !!!!.... How Good Was That..Steves Drumming Throughout, Jimmy's Old Chisel Voice and Mossy at the end..... Classic !!!!!

    M.... E....

    Michael Evans I totally agree

  44. s.... ....

I saw this tour, too. They opened with this one at Bombay Rock in Melbourne & I was right up the front. Barnes got pissed at the audience's lack of enthusiasm & leapt into the crowd from a ballistrade. The people parted & he hit the deck pretty fucking hard. Lol! Back on stage, blood streaming down his face. The show must go on! Showed up the next night with 5 or 6 stitches in his forehead. Great memories.
Jim's struggling a bit with the vocal here, but then Chisel's "off" night was still better than most other bands' best. Mossy was on fire on this tour, as you can see here. The best band this country has produced, and that's fucking saying something.

  45. s.... ....

    Holy Crap!!!

  46. m.... k....

Started a gig in tathra with this no early 80s blew us all away couldnt hear 4 days great show great band
