Cold - American Dream Lyrics

A Pink suitcase
And a princess gown
A movie star in my home town
She said she came back home so she can breathe
She takes her pills
And sings her songs
With a broken delivery all night long
And The life she had to live was tragedy

Daddy works for Jesus
Sister leads the Band
Bobby's out of rehab
And Lizzy's going in
Mothers medicated
Nothings what it seems
Suddenly she finds out the American dream

She woke up late in the afternoon
She smiled at me said I'm leaving soon
Why don't you pack your things and come with me
Then She takes her pills
And sings her songs
With a broken delivery all night long
Screaming Hollywood was made for you and me

Daddy works for Jesus
Sister leads the Band
Bobby's out of rehab
And Lizzy's going in
Mothers medicated
Nothings what it seems
Suddenly you find out the American dream

Now the stars don't shine in Hollywood X3

Daddy works for Jesus
Sister leads the band
Bobby's out of rehab
Lizzy's going in
Mother's medicated
Nothings what it seems
Suddenly you find out the American Dream

What the hell happened to this band. Now he just writes the bubble gum bullshit formula. First 2 albums were the shit. Another great band gone down

  3. H.... ....

This is what happens when a band loses its guitar players. Whether it's soft or not, it sounds nothing like Cold.

I've loved this band since the early 2000's. I saw them at a small club in South Carolina during the 13 ways to bleed days! Would love to see them again and actually be able to sing along too all of their songs!

Прикольная песня но клип не очень

  33. E.... ....

first song I heard from Cold was stupid girl, dad played it on the 2nd weekends he got his kids. But just like many things from then, the most memorable parts either rot away or builds into something completely different.
Short version: The soul is gone!

    E.... ....

EddyGrunge92. Just wanted u to know stupid girl was written by rivers Cuomo. Weezer they needed a single it started as a joke the band hates that song because it didn't represent them they won't play it live

  34. S.... C....

Ïm sorry but this sucks...We are far from 2000´

    S.... C....

+Sebastián Cantarini Don't be sorry. You didn't make this crap did you? You shouldn't have to apologize for telling the truth! For instance, I make no apologies for pointing out to the band and any other "disillusioned outcast" types that they might not find the prospect of Jesus and The American Dream so intimidating or discouraging if perhaps they stop trying to be so "outrageous" and "abnormal", and they actually attempted to find their own place within civilized society instead of pretending that they don't care what others think of them... you know... Grow up! Dude, the "creepy Demonic Anti-Social" went out in the 90s when Headbangers' Ball began to give way to the "Real World/Road Rules/ Jersey's Hores" brand of mindless groupthink!!! It's time to let Mtv go , Mr Bluebeard... unless you think you could somehow transform into a "Tranny Tweenybopper"!!! Yikes!

    S.... C....

    +Sebastián Cantarini . Yep ,u're right...

    S.... C....

+LongliveKingRichard I'm sorry, but if you cannot find meaning in this song, then you are very very far out of touch with reality. Perhaps in your little perfect life, you don't know the struggles people face. Problems that arise in families, addiction and abuse and things of that nature. If you can't relate to that I can understand why you think everyone in the world needs to fall in line with God. Some of us do not have that option of your perfect life and are forced to face reality head on.

    S.... C....

fuck all you guys for real I love this band. no one sounds like Scooter Ward

    S.... C....

The album is really good, I don't care for this track either. Check out What Happens Now, The Ballad of the Nameless, The Break, Emily, The Crossroads

  36. M.... ....

Good God. This band was awesome. This fucking sucks.

  37. j.... ....

cold is a decent band its just a lot of their fans were assholes back when they became popular these fucks would bexall over the net spaming Cold anywhere they could. people got sick of it and the fans. and the people that werent even fans just a bunch of pill popping losers on their message board. fuck you all

    j.... ....

I will agree on a hardcore note. I was a huge fan of the band back in the day but the other fans or "hardcore" group pissed me off and drove me away

    j.... ....

@chuckiebobphil yeah man this was way back, when message boards were popular gathering places for fans. these assholes would all meet up at the gigs and play the little clique fan bullshit.. now its all facebook, so people try to play it cool, since they don't have the anonymity or convenience of a message board to spew their garbage and sarcastic insults to the rest of the new/fans that are not cool, down or as knowledgeable of the band as they are. i still listen to cold, i wont ever let some over the top douche bag fans determine the bands i listen to.

    j.... ....

    Just like Tool. LOL

  38. R.... l....

    Where is scooter`s voice? :(

    Trygon violacea Bonaparte, 1832

The pelagic stingray (Pteroplatytrygon violacea) is a species of stingray in the family Dasyatidae, and the sole member of its genus. It is characterized by the wedge-like shape of its pectoral fin disc, which is much wider than long, as well as by the pointed teeth in both sexes, whip-like tail with extremely long tail spine, and uniform violet to blue-green coloration. It generally reaches 59 cm (23 in) in width. The pelagic stingray has a worldwide distribution in waters warmer than 19 °C (66 °F), and migrates seasonally to spend the summer closer to the continental shelf and at higher latitudes. The only stingray that almost exclusively inhabits the open ocean, this species is typically found in surface waters down to a depth of 100 m (330 ft). As a consequence of its midwater habits, its swimming style has evolved to feature more of a flapping motion of the pectoral fins, as opposed to the disc margin undulations used by other, bottom-dwelling stingrays.

The diet of the pelagic stingray consists of free-swimming invertebrates and bony fishes. It is an active hunter, using its pectoral fins to trap and move food to its mouth, and has been known to take advantage of seasonal feeding opportunities such as spawning squid. Like other stingrays, it is aplacental viviparous, meaning that the embryos are sustained initially by yolk and later by histotroph ("uterine milk"). With a short gestation period of 2–4 months, females may bear two litters of 4–13 pups per year. Birthing generally occurs in warm water near the equator, with the exception of the Mediterranean Sea, with the timing varying between regions. Rarely encountered except by fishery workers, the pelagic stingray can inflict a severe, even fatal wound with its tail spine. This species is caught as bycatch throughout its range; it is of little economic value and usually discarded, often with high mortality. However, there is evidence that its numbers are increasing, perhaps owing to the heavy fishing of its natural predators and competitors (e.g., sharks). Along with the pelagic stingray's global distribution and prolific life history, this has led the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to assess it as of Least Concern.

is that me or the drummer looks like "Abraham Lincoln"

    J.... H....

    Lol
he also looks like the Breaking Benjamin singer.

  41. D.... S....

just had some disgusting coconut yogurt from whole foods, i usually like coconut yogurt, but this stuff was not yum.

  42. L.... M....

Cold is one of my greatest inspirations for creating music. They are still awesome after all these years. I wish my band could open for them once. :D

  43. M.... S....

Superfiction is one in a long line of albums that I did not like at first, but now it's starting to grow on me. Yeah, it's a little more lightweight than their older stuff, but still ok.

  44. T.... ....

This is what drugs can do to you kids!  Stay away from that shit or you'll write music like this.  This band used to be one of the greats.

    T.... ....

Most would be lucky to write music or play like this. Scooter's voice certainly is different, higher on this album, so it doesn't have the edge like the older songs. That's what I see is missing. Lot's of dysfunctional families about, sometimes drug related sometimes not.

    T.... ....

The band was great when he was ON drugs. Like every other band.

    T.... ....

Personally did you do it do you have court documentation
Ide cite crazytown who admittedly exploit that and shit
But from here on out you arent either of them

    T.... ....

listen to something else then, Cold will always be great

  45. D.... ....

Cold was my favorite band back in the day...sad that this is what they've been reduced to. Might as well set up a tour with Daughtry and Lifehouse or something.

How do you go from making tracks like Just Got Wicked, With My Mind, Send In the Clowns, etc. to THIS? I mean Gone Away was a ballad/slower song but still had the Cold feel to it.

If they wanted to make soft generic radio-rock they should have just used a different band name, to me this is not Cold.

    D.... ....

@Disclaimer Morgan I guess therein lies the choice bands will make these days. You can suck a label's dick just to try and squeeze into the mainstream, or you can go your own way and simply use social media, crowd funding, extensive touring, and other avenues available to build a career.

The Deftones aren't really on the radio anymore. Neither is Marilyn Manson. Both still sell out shows. Cold had a massive following, they could easily have used crowd funding or other means to make their music. It just seems that the band isn't very adept at social media and keeping connected with its fans. The Cold Army has shrunk immensely, I'd be shocked if it really even existed any longer. Their recent output has alienated a lot of the older fans like myself and the music isn't good enough to draw in lots of new fans.

    D.... ....

    @Dystopia1980 fans are fans
When i look at aerosmith from like when i was in highschool compared to the cars
    They were awesome
    Who ide compare cold to
    Is probably like weezer comparitively
    They are older now
Probably a good five to seven yrs older than i am
Cold has never given me the recovered here i come aerosmith vibe
And i am sure that they are just as smart as they ever were when they had fans from their first three albums
I totally think that the discussions and analizations the fans are utilizing here are not as being fans but mostly critiques
    People said that about metallica
    I love saint anger
Its not the coolest album but definitely one of their best songs
    To me
    This album
Well emily and american dream are great i like the break welcome to my world and flight of the superstar
Tho welcome to my world has stupid girl like qualities in which i mean are pretty embarrasing songs to sing without instruments etcetera
    I have to say
    I love them

    D.... ....

I'd love to see you sing about everything that makes you angry for as long as they have. people grow up, maybe it's time you grew up with the rest of us. we're all pissed off, but constantly meditating on that anger over time is gonna be tiresome, boring and it's gonna get old. this is Cold now, they're not kids anymore. that's life. IMO, I love this song and everything Cold does.

    D.... ....

@Disclaimer Morgan and check out ashes, backpack lemonface....crazytown new SLUGGER album...we're white we're awesome, now get your half African and Hispanic ass onto those buds of yours pages and tell matc Anthony and usher bitch

    D.... ....

I've been listening to cold/scooter for like 16 yrs and I think this album is solid. Definitely different theme wise but I think that's what Scooter was aiming for on this album not to be a generic rock radio band . He went more in a story telling direction when writing this album and I think it was a solid effort. I love how there are illustrations in the cd book to go with each song. Ill admit it took me a few listens for the album to grow on me but then I was hooked. My favorite Cold album is their debut but I think everything Scooters done is brilliant as well as the killer and the star just my opinion though.

  46. r.... d....

    I really enjoy this album.

  47. K.... J....

The drummer's facial hair is badass, just sayin. COLD for life. <3

  48. M.... R....

anyone notice scooter's voice sounds different on every album?

    M.... R....

    He has amazing voice 🤘

  49. B.... C....

Great Song and great video guys well done!!!!

  50. A.... B....

Holy shit how did I never listen to this album yet?? Hell yeah Scooter's back on guitar after all this time.

  51. M.... ....

doesn't he look older now? look at his neck jaja!

    M.... ....

I also assume Scooter is not in the greatest of health. He seemed pretty sickly all his career. In 13 ways to bleed he probably weighed like 100 pounds. For a man, that is pretty skinny.

    M.... ....

I know how they pronounce it, Mongo. OP makes fun, I make fun. Why the jell are u so mad?

    M.... ....

+Dave Davidson Yet it's oh so cultured to make fun of a person's age and looks! Die, you silly shart.

    M.... ....

@dungbeard yeah....i didn't say anything about scooter. get cancer and die in a fire you worthless piece of shit

  52. s.... ....

I like these guys .. so its not the same sound. People change and the emotion that produced the old song may have evolved.. I hope for scooters sake, he seems in a better place now.

  53. I.... ....

    Bring back Kelly!

    I.... ....

,Terry and Jeremy and it's done :P

  54. R.... M....

It's called developing your sound. It's what good bands do to remain relevant and interesting.

  55. S.... ....

Weather you like their new sound or not, just be happy that such an AMAZING band is still making music! Personally, I believe you really can't get much better than Cold's old stuff but I can tell that these guys have really grown up and it shows in their music.... But I still love the fact that to this day the lead singer has that emotionless look in their videos

  56. J.... N....

ppl need to stfu and just appreciate a good band.

  57. D.... ....

I'm was a fan of them and just giving my opinion on their new sound. If you're so sensitive to someone's opinion, even if it is a lil rough around the edges, then don't even bother reading comments. What, I can't have an opinion unless it's positive? Constructive criticism can be real important, especially if you're a band. Too many sensitive people nowadays. It's like, if you aren't going to kiss someone's ass, you're a "hater". Just giving my opinion. Back off.

  58. R.... ....

Are you even listening to the lyrics? Envision what Scooter is trying to say. If it's the "sound" you're going for then go listen to Mudvayne or some other band of the sort. I personally love Cold because I can relate to their lyrics. This isn't "radio rock" just because they have a more cleaner, professional sound.. It's people like you that will discourage Cold to release another album.

  59. A.... ....

Everyone evolves and every band evolves as does the sound of their music.

  60. T.... D....

The Superfiction album is fucking awesome.SOME people obviously only listened to it once. The Break? Ballad of Nameless? Emily is the one of their most emotional songs ever. Its not the same sound as 15 years ago..and if it was id hate them for it.Not every song is thrashy grungy guitars.AND THATS OK.Move on.You are missing awesome music because of your own stuck in the past mentality.

  61. S.... ....

The album is actually pretty damn good people, personally I don't care for this song either, check out the album though. Peace

  62. C.... ....

I'm going to go listen to "strip her down".

  63. C.... ....

that doesn't even sound like scooter.. I'm so disappointed. This is not mature music it's factory made in bulk.

  64. C.... ....

omg this is horrible.. when I was a teen they were one of my faves. ST and 13wtbs are great albums... this is nickleback type shit.

  65. B.... K....

thank God they got back together

  66. J.... ....

Cold my favorite band of all times!! the best!! :D

  67. C.... B....

    this band is amazing

  68. b.... a....

    They are badass. Cold forever.

  69. M.... A....

they have definitely matured. long way have they come.

  70. D.... ....

They're depicting a vivid picture of a cold version of reality for some Americans... which has it's sweet moments... It's not the family I wish to create for myself, but I see how some relate with their music.

The musicality of it though is nice. And the video director and creator is relatively just as brilliant.

  71. C.... H....

There are subtle variants, but at the end of the day jazz is jazz, classical is classical, playing the A note on a piano is an A note. And this song is cheese ball, in the same way Miley Cyrus is cheese.

    C.... H....

They should've sticked with the sadder, post grunge nu metal style that they were before.

  72. x.... ....

music, like all other forms of art are subjective, what you may find cheesy and cliché doesn't necessarily make it so, just because you don't like it doesn't make you an authority on the difference between what's great and what's cliché

  73. d.... ....

What happened at 1:12? Her mom did'nt die, did she? :/

  74. B.... ....

I guess this song is okay! But still it not the same!

  75. J.... P....

they did work with staind on 13 ways to bleed on stage

  76. J.... P....

I agree 100% .... I love the message behind this video

  77. r.... ....

They've got a bit of a Staind vibe! Nothing wrong with that =)

  78. k.... w....

this song really reminds me of home i havent deployed yet but i been in the military for about 7 months before i got to go home,i came home on a pass once i got there it just seemed like everyone i knew and loved was fake and empty and changed so much its kinda sad what happens when you grow up and people just move on..idk if thats what people got out of this song or thats the message but it hits me like a ton of bricks..

  79. j.... ....

True art comes from the suffering, tormented soul. That's why Cold's earlier stuff was so amazing. I also have a Cold spider tattoo, right on my left wrist. But all the stuff after ADKOP, there's no more pain. I'm sorry, but my heart atleast, isn't moved by any of their new content. If I wanted ideology thrown at me, I'd pick up a book. Music is for feeling. I hope they remember that soon.

  80. P.... ....

I love drummers style! like really

  81. C.... H....

Maturing doesn't mean you should release cheesy cliche music

  82. M.... ....

I don't meant to troll, just my opinion, but I'm not particularly fond of ADKOP and there is no getting used to this latest album. I'm a fan of everything up to and including YOTS but their "mature" sound is what's throwing it off. Sick of Man is my all time favorite song, I have a Cold tattoo, I still have their first 3 CD's on every computer I own and work with. I'm just not feeling this new style.

  83. S.... ....

Video is Similar to INJECTED's Faithless video

  84. S.... J....

To most of all but to none,Put down the HATE-ER-AID, this man and his band is in the top 5 of all time,if ur so much better than this where is your love of music on watch do in all f off and ENJOY the works of COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. T.... P....

But yeah this is garbage compared to their other stuff

  86. T.... P....

scooter never shows emotion in his face when he sings lol. bloody good singer though

  87. P.... N....

    Yeah!!!!!!

  88. D.... S....

are you from CLOVERFIELD? I heard your voice in santa cruz, but in tallahassee heard Lochlyn munroe.

  89. D.... S....

the long haired due, hes' new,.

  90. D.... S....

    how come?

  91. D.... S....

wow, he look like homie from the greyhound, gots to be impossible, his pops in Jville with the Plumbing company, thats more realistic and weird.

  92. C.... L....

I'm glad some people like the direction they are taking, I was feeling guilty listening to it so much, haha

  93. f.... m....

    nice videos

  94. P.... ....

hey its cold dont matter if sound diff to me but he lyrics are still great and still sound great to me i respect this guy and the band

  95. g.... ....

Also, the girl in this video as absolutely beautiful. :)

  96. g.... ....

Love this song, it's not the "same" cold as early 2000's, but it doesn't matter, it's still an amazing song.

  97. S.... ....

So old Cold is immature? STFU

  98. N.... V....

Vin Diesel is the singer? Awesome!
