Cockburn, Bruce - Last Night Of The World Lyrics
I'm sipping Flor De Caña* and lime juice, it's three a.m.
Blow a fruit fly off the rim of my glass
The radio's playing Superchunk and the friends of Dean Martinez
Midnight it was bike tires whacking the pot holes
Fusing the space between them with bar-throb bass and laughter
If this were the last night of the world
What would I do?
What would I do that was different
Unless it was champagne with you?
I learned as a child not to trust in my body
I've carried that burden through my life
But there's a day when we all have to be pried loose
If this were the last night of the world
What would I do?
What would I do that was different
Unless it was champagne with you?
I've seen the flame of hope among the hopeless
And that was truly the biggest heartbreak of all
That was the straw that broke me open
If this were the last night of the world
What would I do?
What would I do that was different
Unless it was champagne with you?

It'll be a Laphroaig's and a very good cigar...but count me in!
that's a weird line. Flames of hope among the hopeless shouldn't be heartbreaking, eh? It should be a reaffirming thing, n'est pas?
@Siboney Peltier
It's be a Evan Williams and a fat line, in days gone by ...@moonlitme
@Joachim Kane ... your heart breaks open for the hopeless _O_X

Thanks Bruce for putting up a nicely mastered version of this and other videos!
Something I've hoped for, for years.
what--that's him who posted this?? no flippin' way!
I have always thought this is a great song, however I don't think the video does it justice. Focusing too much on young people, or whatever the market is all about these days, why not just depict an interlude that reflects what the song is really about?
i was just thinking the same thing
Its a pity that this song wasn't released earlier than 1999. Because it would have fit perfectly with this low budget Don Mckellar movie called "Last Night" which was about the last night of the world in Toronto. It was a very chilling, very thought provoking and very Canadian movie(I mean that in a good way).
Bruce is a talented and gifted voice of gentle dissension in a world of mediocrity... what would you do that was different if it were the last night of the world... lift a glass to Bruce Cockburn....
Bruce Cockburn has been around long enough to have something to say, I'm a fan.
Bruce says more in one song than most singer/songwriters say in a whole album.
@airdriver Or in a while career...
