Cochrane, Tom - Napoleon Sheds His Skin Lyrics
The streets are covered in chalk
The shops are boarded up
The bodies are carried back down from the square
He begins to wonder
Or is it just the clothes
That he now wears
Napoleon sheds his skin
In the summer when the sun is high
He never knows when to quit
When to stop...
Or when to say die
Pick the bones, get a tan
Underground
She would not have left him anyway
Wait by the sea, wait in the sun
As if the time
Stood still
Did he get involved
In whichever side
That paid
Napoleon sheds his skin
In the summer when the sun is high
He never knows when to quit
When to stop...
Or when to say die
...And time stands still behind
The distant gates
Time moves on outside in the sun
Then he wonders which side he's really on
Then he doesn't care,
It's so grey in there
He just wants to get back to her...
Napoleon sheds his skin
In the summer when the sun is high
He never knew when to quit
When to stop...
Or when to say die...
She waits for him by the wharf
By the sea where they used to go
She sings a song that they'd sing
Then waits for the echo...
Na... poleon
Sheds his skin
Na... poleon
Sheds his skin
Na... poleon
Sheds his skin
I've got to get out of here
Can she save me
I've got to get out of here
Can she save me
I've got to get out of here...
Can you hear me...

Cochrane, Tom Napoleon Sheds His Skin Comments
I wasn't born when this song came out. I would give up everything to go back to those days. It's honestly frustrating and depressing that I didn't get to live through the 80's, or even earlier. Anyone who grew up with all these old cars and this legendary music has no idea how lucky they were/are. This world we live in now is a complete joke...
Yes you did! You were there! Think about it!
Well, everyone thinks this song is about espionage or something....and it may well be, but Napoleon was Tom Cochrane's dog, I seem to recall reading 36 years ago...so guessing some sort of allegory in this song...but i could be wrong.
Who are the tampons that voted thumbs down....you all must be douches
The intro to this song is everything.
* typo: Napoleon, not 'Napolean' -- it's my given name, I should know! Cheers
great track. Story about a gun runner. cool
She waits for him by the wharf
By the sea where they used to go
She sings a song that they'd sing
Then waits for the echo...
For those radio programmers who do Sunday classics, Sunday deep cuts, or Sunday brunch specials - this would be a wonderful choice .... just sayin'
one of the best songs red rider ever recorded
Great tune for sure!
It's about the CIA's involvement in the Central American conflicts during the 1980's. Anybody with a capacity for critical thinking who was alive then knows whose side they were really on. Ooops, sorry, Republicans. Go stand in the corner.
LOL. They can see your comments... they know where you live. Those black helicopters are following you I'll bet. Neruda, neurotic? You be trippin dude.
Critical thinking my arse.
Liberalism , is the death of freedom
Commies , socialists are the enemies from with in
It's a mental illness
assholes I wasn't finished .
Great song. Hearing it for the first time recently, and love what I hear. Red Rider rock. More evidence of how great an album Neruda is. An album I must find.
Haunting tune. It was my introduction to Red Rider. I bought the album and was blown away.
one summer I played this album at least one thousand times. I'm so old now but this is still so, so good. brings back good memories of youth when my dreams were still alive.
how does this song only have 16k views?
I have no idea my friend. This song is really good she should have at least 1 mil.
I agree this song should have FAR more views than it has gotten.
This is a very underrated song, for some reason. Probably because it never gets any radio play. I've only ever heard "Lunatic Fringe" on the radio.
saw them on youtube!!! Aweeeesome!! lol
and for free..
life is just a though..fuck it..
No... David Gilmour solo's sounded very Red Riderish.. is what it is.
just love the sound of red rider
Love this song and this style of music.
Great song, what a weird name for an album though.
Pablo Neruda was a terrific (and quite famous) Chilean poet
this band is bad ass!!
ottawa congress center...oh hell ya!
This brings back memories of college and my girl Laura. Those days are long gone and so is she, but the memories remain. Now, my 20 year old son is hooked on Red Rider too.
i've always thought their guitar solos sounded very david gilmourish ;]
Ah the good old days in the 80's Remember the guys on our hockey team listening to this album over and over while traveling to games throughout Alberta
my favorite album of tom cochrane's, group or solo.
i wish this guitar solo would go on forever
I LOVE this song! It just doesn't get any better than this! Thanks :)
