Classic Crime, The - The Happy Nihilist Lyrics

I am a happy nihilist, no absolute truth does exist
When I decide to shake my fist, I only got myself to blame
Cause we're all players and life's the game

I only take what I need, I am so light on my feet
I will not stop or concede, I am not driven by greed
No moral compass for me, it's all just natural feelings
Existence has no meaning, there's no such thing as happy
But late at night when I sleep, I dream of more than I see
There's something burning in me, a driving need to be free
Why do I sit here and think about the things that I need?
There's nothing left to believe, oh is it all just a dream?

I've taught this to myself, piled books up on the shelf
But it still hurts like hell to trust nobody else but me

I used to read everything, I used to need nothing
I put my money on me, I used to be something
Now I can't sleep, cause I'm not happy

I've taught this to myself, piled books up on the shelf
But it still hurts like hell to trust nobody else but me

Whoa oh oh
Why am I haunted by the metaphysical?
Is it a cosmic lie or is it literal?
The books I read that used to free my mind
Have made me more blind but the truth I'll find it
I was a happy nihilist
Now I'm wondering why I exist

I've taught this to myself, piled books up on the shelf
But it still hurts like hell to trust nobody else but me

As an actual nihilist I must say that this song is epic 👌

    M.... ....

    Misaki epic is subjective

  5. E.... L....

I can't believe I've never heard this song until now

  6. T.... F....

Needs more view and a lot more appreciation.

  9. K.... ....

Good song. Is it just me or does the vocalist sort of sound like the guy from panic at the disco?

    K.... ....

+KrazyChillTV i thought the same when i first heard it! :D

  10. D.... 0....

The most meaningful song in the world to me. Love this song so so much. Thank you for creating this masterpiece

    D.... 0....

    This song has no meaning.

  11. b.... ....

There is no absolute truth. That includes the previous sentence, I take it? Hmm...

    Good song.

  12. R.... P....

    I'm a happy nihilist

  13. M.... ....

Before he felt he couldn't trust anybody. And coupled with the thought none of it mattered. He lived a selfish and lonely life. At first he was happy to be alone with his pride, the thought that he knew the truth. But when his heart started to wake, he realized how lonely and selfish he had become. He was unable to help others at first because he couldn't trust them. After he gained the ability to trust others and a purpose, he can better others lives. And for this he is no longer lonely.

  14. M.... ....

Lastly about this song. It sounds to me like at the beginning the person thinks he is happy, but later realizes his rejection of any kind of trust has made unhappy. Faith and trust are linked. He feels he can't trust anybody but himself. At some point he begins to feel empty, alone, and wanting purpose. He stops being satisfied with his life. With their new found purpose, they can begin to help others unhindered by thoughts that their actions didn't matter.

  15. M.... ....

I have also rechecked, and the way they word it, it doesn't so much as sound like one or more of them is not a Christian. They said that not all members are "set in their faith." To me, this could mean that somebody wasn't a Christian, but it could also mean that not all of them were deeply religious. I know a lot of Christians who aren't deeply religious. I'm not deeply religious myself. Just an alternative interpretation.

  16. M.... ....

And I believe God has a hand in these guys music. A few years ago I heard them say they weren't all Christians. I tried to think of their music as positive worldly music. But each time I come across a song, and each time I hear a powerful lesson in it, I can't help but think it is. Maybe they don't call it Christian, and by a pharisee's standard it isn't. But by Christ's standards, I would consider it very Christian...

  17. M.... ....

Looking at the lyrics one can put together a picture of somebody who has gone through a lot of experiences, and learned a lot. And there is also a faith in there. One thing I think is refreshing is that they are sometimes very critical of themselves. There is a humbleness there that is lacking in a lot of "Christian" music. I get the feeling when I listen to some christian bands that they are almost "taking credit". I don't get that from TCC and I don't get it from a few other badns either...

    M.... ....

I am a nihilist, I trust everybody. Whatever appears to happen happens, it doesn't matter. Life's not a game it's an illusion. I only think In paradoxes

  18. M.... ....

I would consider them a Christian band. But then again, I have a very broad definition of what constitutes Christian music. It's a very complex issue that tends to be more subjective. Here's how I look at it, Christian music is music meant to draw people to God or to a better life. The Classic Crime usually falls into the latter, sometimes though there are very direct connections to God in their music. I'm not trying to offend the band or anyone that thinks different....

    M.... ....

    hes a nihilist soo...

    Potato

    q.... ....

    I second that

  20. j.... ....

Then we are at an impasse. I understand the statement is paradoxical, but I'm confident in our ability to be contradictory. Just because in the armchair ontological argument that the absence of a premise is still a premise making it paradoxical, I fail to see how heavy skepticism (even to go so far as Nihilism) practiced in the real world has lead anyone into a dead end. That being an observer with minimal, if any, preconceived notions or beliefs is somehow unjustified.

  21. j.... ....

3)don’t quite understand the minutia of gravity, physics still has a lot to explore, we may possibly understand less about it than we know, so to make claims about an absolute truth is more an exercise in faith.

  22. j.... ....

2)mountains of evidence make it a more correct thing to believe in than something that can’t stand to scrutiny. Any belief or preconceived notion that extends beyond the evidence it has would not be a valuable idea to hold. For example, you could believe that the Mayan calendar will bring doom soon. If this happened to be correct, it would be sheer luck, not evidence that brought understanding that would validate anyone who has faith in this apocalyptic prophecy. And finally, given that we

  23. j.... ....

1)Reducing skepticism down to a paradoxical statement assumes too much. It’s more complicated than to be invalidated by that. ‘Right-ness’ can be synonymous with what is most apparent to be true. And what is more apparently true than the most consistently demonstrable principles, like our understanding of the natural laws of the universe, which show the most concrete evidence. So using Physics as an example, it doesn’t portend to be the end all be all guiding principle of life, but its

  24. T.... D....

Yeah, I was just trying to illustrate that these kinds of statements are impossible to hold to - Since they are self refuting at the most basic level.

  25. j.... ....

Yup. It looks like the winky face implies an irony, but that's the gist I suppose.

  26. T.... D....

"No one can be right" - Is that right? ;)

  27. j.... ....

The absence of a premise is not another kind of premise. Furthermore, humans cannot perceive the absolute unifying principle of the universe if there was one because each person experiences the world subjectively, therefore no one can be right.

  28. D.... L....

They have Christian "inspired" music since Matt (the lead singer and a Christian) writes the lyrics. You should listen to their "The Coldest Heart" which is a great song that talks about redemption and God's grace. There's also his other songs in The Vocal Few where he definately expresses his faith like in "We'll Make it Someday". Hope this helps and God bless.

  29. D.... L....

I hope I can help you out. Nihilism is a sad idea that nothing really exists (which would kinda make life meaningless). Nihilists don't trust anyone else because they reject truth. I could be wrong and I'll humbly take criticism. Personally I wouldn't know everything about them since I've never been a nihilist. I believe in the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ 100%.

  30. T.... D....

"No absolute truth does exist" - Is that an absolute truth? If not, why should I believe it? ;)

  31. C.... ....

Who is going to there CD release show inSeattle Aug. 3rd?

  32. s.... ....

Dude, They aren't a christian band, they've said it themselves, and news flash they aren't signed to tooth and nail anymore.

  33. A.... W....

Someone said FOB and i kind of agree

  34. l.... ....

I don´t really get the message of this song. Can someone please explain it to me? Thanks.

  35. i.... b....

anyone thinks they sound a bit like the offspring?

  36. S.... S....

Wow, I just realized half way through the song that this ISN'T House of Heroes. Goodness, I'm oblivious. Haha, I totally forgot this was The Classic Crime.

  37. d.... ....

    brilliant lyrics..

  38. E.... G....

@StuckedInTheMud I think you might be thinking of Anarbor? At least i know they did music for the brand new scooby movie that was out a while ago.

  39. S.... ....

Spread the word about these guys!!!

  40. B.... P....

    @StuckedInTheMud hahaha

  41. B.... P....

@sk8er4lif3777 The real truth is they are Christian, with or without the label, actually. Have you even seen them live? I've seen them twice and both times they were talking about Jesus between songs. Yes their music is about life, but so is Christ and God. Christianity is a flavor that effects EVERYTHING, not just the tiny little religious portion of a person's life. You can easily, easily see the aforementioned Christian perspective in most if not all of their songs. And yes, Alan is now.

  42. S.... S....

@deltaknightstryke Is sarcasm completely lost on you?

  43. E.... ....

This is great, I really like them! but is there a video with a better sound quality? Is it just me? cuz ive got my headphones blaring and it doesnt seem so clear

  44. T.... q....

    @Xunknown713X Does it matter?

  45. j.... ....

Great song! Definitely shows the struggle of relying on one's own self or to believe in something different. Christian or not, it still has a good message

  46. X.... ....

    @deltaknightstryke Idiot.

  47. b.... b....

@ObsidianTeen Thats not a good thing to be!

  48. e.... ....

    AWESOME BAND!!!!!!!

  49. D.... H....

They sound soo much like Panic at the Disco in the beginning of this song!!! I love this band. and no im pretty sure Anarbor made music for Scooby Doo

  50. D.... H....

They sound soo much like Panic at the Disco in the beginning of this song!!! I love this band.

  51. C.... ....

OH DEAR GOD, stop talking about religion!!! No ones gives a shit!

That said, the chorus is the story of my life.

  52. S.... O....

@beastlybooks some bands like paramore don't blatanly say they are christian and they write secular music that is leaning towards religion to get a broader spectrum of fans

  53. S.... ....

As long as bands don't get preachy they can be a great band. Christian or not. To Be Honest this is an amazing album. Really enjoyed listening to it and this song really is one of my favorites.

  54. A.... ....

im sure these guys are christians first and a band second and not just christians in a band.

  55. s.... ....

@dcd392 The real truth is that Only 3 memebers of the band are christian 2 aren't, So they aren't a christian. Their music is mostly about life, although they do have a few songs that are somewhat religous, But religon should never matter. You should listen to the band becuase to can relate to the music and because you like no matter what Genre.

  56. T.... R....

they arent like any of those bands, if anything they are closest to this beautifull republic, but thats still a strech, its more like this beautifull republic is like THEM.

  57. L.... E....

    @dcd392 oh thank you : )

  58. L.... E....

is this a christian band? someone told me they were and i don't believe them

  59. t.... ....

    Chords anyone?

  60. Z.... R....

    no way like FOB

  61. s.... ....

please stop staying their like FOB. They are way different from FOB. If anything compare them to Thrice and Third Eye Blind. TCC sounds alot closer to them.

TCC contuines to kick ass and take names.

  62. L.... H....

yeah really awesome! They sound like Fob!! but better ;)
