Clash, The - What's My Name Lyrics
What the hell is wrong with me? I'm not who I want to be
I tired spot cream an' I tried it all I'm crawling up the wall!
What's my name naaaame...naaaame....naaaame....
I got nicked, fighting in the road an' the judge didn't even know
What's my name
Dad go pissed so I got clocked
Couldn't hear the Tannoy so he lost the lot
Offers Mum a bribe through the letter box
Drives you fucking mad
Now I'm round the back of your house at night
I laugh at your locks with my celloid strip
An' you won't know who came
What's my name

They laughed at my lock with their celluloid strip the night my house was broken into , my gear stolen & never recovered , almost took a year to recover & return to YouTube.
Fookin beautiful
Keith Levene wrote this during a soundcheck before he left The Clash and formed PIL with mate Lydon.

Thank you for this posting. I only wish T.H.'s drums were more prominently featured in this and other recordings. I had a particularly well-recorded version of "I fought the Law" that I used to listen to in the car. It spoiled me. I've never found another like it. Wish there were more.
one of the best albums ever...
Probably the Only Good tune that band ever wrote. But a damn fine one.
school of rock???
for any of u who are wondering this song was made before little bitch rhinna made her song of the same name
Is there a heavier cover of this song? Almost everyone who watched School of Rock is looking for a certain part of the soundtrack (when they go to the Battle of the Bands), and the chorus of this is the closest that I can find.
Manic Street Preachers do a proper bass filled cover, best I've heard so far!!!
Daniel Carville Live version
The Manics version is fantastic - faster and heavier!
Always thought this was the most Pistols like Clash song. Perhaps this is because it was written by Keith Levene. It has a real edge to it. Great to hear Strummer play it live during the Earthquake Weather period.
mick cant quite get the screeching guitar sound of levene
True. However I must say I like Mick's guitar sound on the album. Would have been interesting to have heard the songs with Keith on guitar as well.
also, "cheat", "1977" and "capital radio one"
juveale29
I wonder what would the Clash sound like if Keith had stayed with them...
@ComptGeorges methinks he would've just been dead weight because he thought of that band as a chore
Can anyone tell me what he's talking about during the bridge:
Dad got pissed, so I got clocked (My father got drunk and hit me)
Couldn't hear the tannoy (public address system) so he lost the lot (?)
Offers Mum a bribe through the letter box (?)
+TanzDerSchatten Couldn't hear the tannoy (in the bookmakers) so he lost the lot (all the families money) Offers mum a bribe thru the letter box( trying to weadle his way back in by sweet talking mum)
+Charlotte Earl Excellent, thanks!
Ping Pong 4 life
I tried to join a ping pong club.

@Ye Clown And the judge didn't even know.
@Blues Chewy Dad got pissed so I got clocked...

So true.
