Clarks, The - Sign Of The Times Lyrics
Gotta get up early in the morning
Gotta be in the city by the afternoon
Some still imagine some silver spoon
Turn around and I kiss her in the darkness
Stop awhile and she smiles from the edge of the bed
Baby I'll be around
Someday I'll settle down
Guilty of running and countless on thought crimes
It's just a sign of the times
I pop around the corner from the back gate
I've been waiting for weeks now I know they're away
They're always off on moving day
Troubled light I'm just looking for the jewelry
Don't let 'em track you, it's not that hard
Baby I'll be around
Someday I'll settle down
Guilty of lying and countless on thought crimes
I'm just a sign of the times
Lights were on as I pull up to the cabin
Chimney cloud as a shroud on a silver moon
I'll tell her someday, maybe soon
Baby I'll turn around
Somewhere on the edge of town
Tired and running out of luck and out of crimes
Another sign of the times
It's just a sign of the times
I'm just a sign of the times

Clarks, The Sign Of The Times Comments
As usual, Mike does a fantastic job bringing to us, more great entertainment. Mike delivers a great introduction and a great song, that has been indeed enjoyed by many throughout the years. "Pet" Clarke is my favorite "Bird." Me being French and all that jazz... Thanks again, Mike.
Thank you!
Almost any song from 1966 is great to hear again! Something about those mid-'60s songs that were among the best I've heard. Maybe it has to do with the writers, the incredible talent who sings them, the era itself when most of us were in our mid-teens and had that optimism about the future, and how they were original songs, instead of old repeats.
The stereo quality on this is mind blowing!
Wow. I love your tone. I wishy voice was that smooth.
Hey Music Mike, long time, me no heard from...so, again you do not disappoint. Pet Clark was one of my faves, back in the day, so gotta say, this cut is some kinda great. I sure do love these hits from my younger days and thank you for making it happen. Gary. Music Mike is the best.
Thanks Gary
TOOK MY MOM TO SEE HER IN ATLANTIC CITY YEARS AGO AND WE ENDED UP BACK STAGE TALKING TO PETULA FOR AN HOUR SHE TRULY IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SUPERSTARS OF ALL TIME AND KNOCKED THE BEATLES OFF THE TOP OF THE CHARTS WITH DOWNTOWN.
This is what great pop sounded like. A dead art.
Petula Clark great iconic and to the next topic sign of the times you got that right voice text
Petula's music was so uplifting. A true sign of the good times of yesteryear!!
You're totally correct on this MusicMike, this sounded amazing!!
I commented this video 5 years ago. I'm still here! I have about 3000 old 45s I collected over a lifetime. I'd love to do something such as this with them. My copy of this song is on a 45.
My vinyl copy melted, in the trunk of my car, in the Nevada desert, driving cross country in the 70's
Great Sound and Great Song Thank You Petula Clark.
Just a up-beat song by a pretty lady and a great singer....Joe D...8-25-1019..........
Mikes Musical Flashbacks+

Crystal Beach Ontario Canada

Another song i loved by her was
Called "This Is My Song"

Walking on a street wearing a
Black coat
Wow-- Loved this song in 1966 and still loving it today 6-9-2019 @73yrs old!!!!!
How about those horns , love them !
Great memories from the 60s, cheers🇬🇧
Lovely voice and great song. Another reason I am glad the British Invasion happened!
If the BOSS Radio jingle didn't get you, the "wall of sound" will.....even if it IS British!
Maybe some bawdy knows..so damn sexy
Those were the days, you didn't have to wait five years for new music from your favorite artists.
Horns never sounded so good !
Nothing like growing up in the 60's......We changed the WORLD.......
Listen to this while watching Sadiq Khan
The best!
Who are you Music Mike? All your favourites seem to be mine too. Many thanks for all the music. Josephine, Manchester, England.
That's cool Josephine.. You can find out more about me at the web site for my internet radio station, Go to kvkvi.com
MusicMike's "Flashback Favorites" Thankyou so much, never in a thousand years did I expect you to reply. What a gent. X
Great and Hall of Fame singers like Petula Clark don't exist any more. Thanks Petula!!
The 60s and 70s are the two greatest decades there ever was for music
Love Petula
In one Petula Clark album......... she knows a place, goes downtown, rounds every corner, colors your world, and can't live without your love. What a great album!! This sure was a sign of the times back then
Greatest Hits Volume 1 was reissued as Superhits by the Superstar issued on Wounded Bird under contract by BMG Music. The 1990 CD added 4 more Hits.
cute, but more a show tune than a dance tune, which is why Pet, beautiful as she was, never quite escaped the fringes of real rock’n roll;
sorry, but these were three of those minutes on the radio you waited for to get up and go to the bathroom then grabbed another soda;
Wow, This brings back memories. Would love to see Records make a full comeback. I am 32 but Growing up we played all of the records, mainly 33s. The sound quality was wonderful. Multi component systems, etc...
Still sounds groovy 52 years on!
Memories of me at age 5 riding on back of My Dads 1969 Blue Ford Station Wagon, sooo Happy and Free!
Happy Blessings to You All!
✌🏼😎🦄🍭✨🌈☮️🍄🍒🤭
I just like her alot.
Whenever I hear this super song, it reminds me of "Banner Day" at the old Shea Stadium. Home of the Mets in Flushing , N.Y.
Thanks Music Mike

My ear buds are literally getting hot listening to this full blast. they are actually HOT. Very strange!
My favorite Petula Clark Song
my fave of hers
PETULA CLARK ...THE DIVA OF THE 60S
Petula Clark is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. She has been singing since she was 6, in 1939, before WW2 started in England! This song hit #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in Mar. 1966. An amazing performer, and has one of the sweetest voices you will ever hear. Now 85 (Nov. 15, '32), I hope she lives to be 100! Love you, Petula, and "I Know a Place" (#3, 1965) is my favorite Pet song! The American recording industry honored her with a Grammy Award for "Best Contemporary (R&R) Vocal Performance of 1965 – Female" for the song in Mar. 1966. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8th_Grammy_Awards#Pop
One of those fine songs of the middle sixties and I recall I liked so much to hear Petula Clark singing.
Thanks Petula for this incredible song from my teen years! My hats off to George Reeves as Superman and Noel Neill as Lois Lane. This song reminds me of this couple.
No matter where M. M. and Flash Back Favorites can be found on the net, this is a solid source of good music and music history. I just wish that we heard more from you Mike! 😎
How could your day not get better when listening to this song? Pet Clark had that magic. Today's music could use a dose of it.
CBS Sunday Morning recently did a profile of her, she is 85 years old and still touring.
Classic...thank you...
With headsets this sound is amazing !
The Stereo sound is amazing.
Analogue has the edge over digital recordings.
Being black, male and liking this singer, I got teased so much. This is real music.
Glad you like her and stuck to your opinion. Why is it that black people get "teased" about liking a white singer....but it's OK for a non-black person to like a black singer? What damn difference does it make? If a singer is good.....they're good....and should be appreciated. End of story.
That's all right BQ. I was 7 when Downtown came out. I was a south side Black kid enjoying Petula just as much as the Temptations. You had to look real hard to actually find bad music back then. I stuck to my guns too!! Love my pop music!!
The only city where I’d hear Petula Clark on the radio is KOOL 102.3 in Las Vegas.
I'm sure of this...I first heard this song -- or some variation of it -- on a nationally broadcast car commercial in the late sixties. I was shocked to learn it started out as a Petula Clark record.
It's one of the best. Love itl👍😊
May just have to see if I can find a copy of this record.
Great song
The clarity is perfect.
Thank you.
What a great sound! Love Petula Clark!
PETULA singing this GREAT SONG on FANTASTIC STEREO takes me back to my Senior year in High School ! I loved this song back then and love it even more today ! THANK YOU MusicMike !!
Still a great tune, No doubt about it....
freakin great song. excellent horns, wow. it used to be about the music, those days are gone sadly..... i remember the tire commercial they used this song for bf goodrich its the radial age. you tube it
I've got a C.D. of this song and I listen to it in my car a lot.
i like her voice so calming
great song, great lyrics, great arrangement
SIGN OF THE TIMES .THAT IT IS.
This was before multi track recording, so it was done live in studio. What an incredible feeling it must have been when they laid it down and got it all just right, and they knew they nailed it!
This melody of this song was also used by BF Goodwich to promote their radial tires in the mid-late sixties.
It's a radial age!
Petula Clark went from being a singer who was a all round entertainer to someone who can get down with the kids from music hall songs which were middle of the road and can be heard on family favourites to a fully fledge pogo singer
This was an interesting tune for the simple reason the words changed during each time they returned to the bridge...3X in all. I cant think of another song with that quirk...billythek from CLE
she could sell me a new Plymouth Road runner ! To-day
Your voice... Wow
Thank You
Clark does that , and looks good in a old jag too
Warners licensed Pet Clark's recordings from Pye Records in the UK; it depended on what kind of safety masters were sent from London over to the US for pressing. My understanding is Warners did get actual masters from her 1966 sessions in Los Angeles; not sure if this was recorded there.
0h . Thank you Music Mike' :) QC
I really believe we used all the world talent up in the 60's 70's and 80's
Agreed.
It would seem so. I hope you're wrong though. I want to see one more great decade before I pass
I agree also all we have left now is the slag
She was performing on radio in London during WW2....and still performs in her 80s
One of the greatest singers and entertainers we've ever seen and ever will see for many many years.
Just curious as to this allowed now?
Dolts!
All of you.
60's best decade of all
Kieron White, You Got That Right.....The Very Best...Joe D....
MIX OF EXCELLENCE!!!
Just to clarify: Jackie Trent (the amazing singer/songwriter) wrote "A sign of the times" and . She wrote many lyrics to the songs of "Mr. and Mrs. Music". She was an amazing singer before Tony Hatch. Sadly, Tony Hatch seems to be obliterating her name from history. So was a great talent with an amazing voice. Her many fans miss her and want to see her get credited, for her vast contributions to the music industry, including Tony Hatch's success.
I was not aware of Jackie Trent until I read your post. Because of you I found her great rendition of Make It Easy On Yourself. Thank you!
Listen to this with the headphones on, great audio on this one.
Michael Riecher just what I was doing!
Concur. When my parents bought a stereo set they also bought headphones; this was circa 1970. When I hear this song now it takes me back to my youth.
great post Mike....I've owned this album 20 + years..great stuff
Agree. Petula is superb. Thanks!
Unbelievable Perfection
What a Great Song of the 60's 😉👍
RICK,-!
Tony Hatch never was afraid to touch the pan pots! (engineer's joke) As open and punchy as any stereo mix I've ever heard from this era.
A treat for the ears and eyes.
This is the epitome of the grand and glorious music of my formative years. Pet Clark rocks--the first female voice of the British Invasion. She always takes me to my happy place. For all the joy her talent has contributed to the world, I wonder why she has never been officially honored by her Queen!
Dame Petula Clark! 👍
Thank you music mike, i was 19 years old when this song came out, it was well played in jamaica (west indies) loved it then still do today, all the best.
nice chanel bro.
