Clark, Petula - Happy Heart Lyrics

There's a certain sound
Always follows me around
When you're close to me
You will hear it

It's the sound that lovers
Finally will discover
When there is no other
For their love

It's my happy heart you hear
Singing loud and singing clear
And it's all because you're near
Be my love

Take my happy heart away
Make me love you, make my day
In your arms I want to stay
All my love

Yeah'

Feeling more and more
Like I've never felt before
You have changed my life
So completely

Music fills my soul now
I've lost all control now
I'm not half, I'm whole now
With your love

It's my happy heart you hear
Singing loud and singing clear
And it's all because you're near
Be my love

Take my happy heart away
Make me love you, make my day
In your arms I want to stay
All my love

It is my happy heart
You can hear my happy heart
In love uoohhhhhh

Aaaaahhhhh

Take me

Take my happy heart

Please be my happy heart

Eeehhhhhhh'

This version is better than Andy William's version.

  2. D.... ....

A lovely version of a lovely song, although the chorus is almost identical to "Fly Me To The Moon". Surely that must have been noted at the time?

  3. G.... R....

I love her sweet pure sounding voice

  4. G.... K....

    Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like on
    A-Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me

  5. R.... K....

Never knew Pet did a cover of this. Always knew Andy's previously.

I prefer Petula's version to Andy Williams' because it is sexier. Andy's version is more a "sing-a-long". Petula is a class act. She let Andy sing this on her own TV special and didn't tell Andy her version has been released as a single. He hadn't had a hit record for a while, so Petula let him plug his version on her show. Andy was a class act too.

  9. C.... ....

Don't remember this as a kid but I caught a clip of this in some mediocre movie from the 80s probably and it stood out for some rrason.

  10. M.... B....

"FOR LOVE OF GEORGE" brought me here.

    Same with me

  11. M.... C....

    Gorgeous Recording.

  12. f.... ....

What I love about this song is that the orchestra are all REAL musicians... playing real instruments... actually blowing into it, strumming it, or playing it... not programing a machine to make sounds... it sounds so REAL and great... imagine, a REAL drummer...

  13. F.... ....

Prefer Andy Williams version but great respect for British Invasion contributions of that era.

  14. P.... S....

20 YEARS after "Billys Hollywood Screen Kiss" I remembered the Junior Vasquez Club Mix for this song. Now that I'm an old fuck at 46, I am loving her shit. Crazy!!!

Wow! I love this version! I love the original too, different approaches :)

  21. D.... J....

    Love you Petula.

Not as good as Andy's. Too slow.

the song was written and composed by German bandleader James Last.

I recently gave my LPs (all but Petula) to my good friend Curtis Burch. The Curtis Burch that everyone calls Dr. Dobro. I know Curtis cares about me as a friend. We share some of the same health issues <> We encourage each other to reach out to another day <> I also gave him all my soft and tender Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Streisand, and most of my favorite love songs' LPs to pine over and over and over,,,,,,,I would never let my Pet LPs go.

I prefer Andy Williams singing this song.

  32. .... ....

    sound`s melody ...similar....fly to the moon......hhahahahahahahahaha

  33. N.... P....

Best version imo. It sounds like it was meant to be sung by a female singer, and Andy Williams' music is too "Las Vegas" for my taste.But..perhaps Lulu would have been a better choice?

  34. R.... E....

I prefer listening to the Four King Cousins sing this song.

  39. m.... ....

    I like pets version better.

  40. E.... S....

Williams' version is much better, hands down. A rare dud for Pet Clark, with or without Andy's competition.

    E.... S....

+catdustycat Petula sings it from the heart ,Andy sings it as a jolly singalong...

    E.... S....

I wouldn't call it a dud, but Williams pumped a little more life into it; he made it swing. His version always reminded me of "Fly me to the moon."

    E.... S....

catdustycat: Song title is "Happy Heart"; Pet's is pretty loud in places, although there was no loudness contest, but Andy's version is much HAPPIER and livelier throughout; Petula sounds rather dreary, IMHO.

    E.... S....

No Name: Agree with you for the most part; it does sound a lot like "Fly Me To The Moon", but I would still call Clark's version a DUDDD !!

    E.... S....

A dud? In what way? More detail, please.

  45. S.... W....

Really? Americans see nothing beyond their shores? Ever heard of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dave Clark 5, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Paul Anka (Canadian), Hollies, Animals, Chad and Jeremy, Spencer Davis, Donovan, Marianne Faithful, Herman's Hermits, Lulu, Searchers, Small Faces, Yardbirds, Zombies and many other UK artists who had charted hits here? The real reason for the British Invasion was so British acts could make the money in the USA that they weren't making the in the UK. Otherwise, brazil5657, they would have stayed home. Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. We love Petula Clark!!!

    S.... W....

I am American, And I literally have always seen beyond the shores ,when it comes to beautiful music & the people who sing these songs !!!!! I mean seriously, Tom Jones ,and the Beatles!!!!!! Herman's Hermits ! Sigh a very happy sighhhh...

    S.... W....

no i never heard of any of them

  46. F.... B....

James Last left the building. R.I.P.

  47. T.... ....

I like Ms Clark's version the best.   Of course as far as the USA is concerned.  Even if Mr William's had a terrible version, it would still be the bigger hit in the USA.  That is how many Americans see the world.  Nothing beyond its shores.  So Ms Clark naturally would come out in 2nd place.    Which is a shame.

    T.... ....

Mr. Egbert Souce, I just gave you a big hand in the form of a thumbs-up, for you took the words right out of my mouth regarding the relative merits of Andy Williams's version of "Happy Heart" and that of Petula Clark. I wonder why nobody else has given you a thumbs-up after the passage of two years in spite of your cogent rebuttal to brazil5657's biased opinion.

    T.... ....

    Prejudiced much?

    T.... ....

    I like both.

  49. M.... ....

    Great version !
and if my ears aren't mistaken that's Britain's most prolific ever session drummer, the fabulous Bobby Graham. He's on her "my love" and others and he did a lot of Dusty's tracks too. Another "feel" drummer who couldn't read music but didn't need to

  50. D.... P....

I looked around on iTunes....I really like this down-tempo arrangement the best and seems to hold up to modern listening better than Andy's happy go lucky fa la la la version.  Her version of 'Games People Play' is also great ... love both .... Had this Happy Heart stuck in my head all mornin'

  51. S.... F....

    Pet is the best.

  52. M.... ....

It's weird that even though Andy had the bigger it with it, THIS is the version I know.

  53. L.... S....

Thumbs up if you are from Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss.

    L.... S....

I heard it there for the first time.

    L.... S....

Lonely Sea I am here from Shallow Grave

    L.... S....

I grew up with Petula Clark. She is wonderful and nothing I am aware of shows off her emotional accessibility better than the two numbers used in "Billy's Kiss." I will never, ever, ever let go of the memory of Sean Hayes and Brad Rowe in tails dancing in unison. Brad Rowe is also in one of the best gay indies called "Shelter." See it if you can.

  54. R.... J....

    love your voice,,,

  55. D.... ....

This version and the Andy William's version are both beautiful, but I think this version of Petula Clark resembles the original instrumental version of James Last, who composed the song, a bit more. Hard to imagine that the song first was thrown away by James Last and it was found by his wife who asked to him to record it. It became a world hit.

    D.... ....

This is the better version of the song.

  56. B.... M....

    Great Song!

  57. g.... ....

Admittedly, Andy Williams' version is much better; more enthusiastic, etc.

    g.... ....

Not to mention, the bigger hit.

  60. s.... ....

Oh, if you only knew the lyrics I put to this...

  61. A.... J....

    that's dope

  62. G.... N....

Mr. Jones is correct, it was her show & I'm sure she knew he was doing the song. They rehearse.

  63. f.... ....

Both versions are great.  Williams is closer to easy listening and Petula's has more of a rock/pop edge that you can hear in the drums and rhythm section, and her vocals.

    f.... ....

Kind of the opposite, really.  Andy's version rocks and Pet's version rolls.

  64. H.... M....

  70. M.... J....

Not true.Andy guested on HER tv special "portrait of petula" (available on dvd,) she graciously let Andy sing his version on her show! Big mistake in hindsight but shows what a generous lady she was and still is performing in 2012!

  71. T.... ....

    That was alright.

  72. M.... G....

I love this song! It always reminds me of Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss 3 Luv Sean Hayes! :)

  73. M.... ....

Funny, I always knew this song from Andy Williams since I was a child. I didn't know Petula did it until i saw Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss. They both do it so well.

  74. W.... N....

Petula's edition is much better than Andy Williams.

  75. C.... C....

Murray, when you're close to me, the sound of my happy heart can be heard on the other side of the world. I love you! You make me so happy when I am with you feeling your arms wrapped around me. I love you! xxxx

I discovered this song seeing Billy's Hollywood and I felt in love for it.

  77. D.... B....

    Me too :)

  78. n.... x....

    @kohstamojahn lmao

  79. t.... ....

    A James Last composition.

  80. h.... ....

This was one of 11 Pet Clark hits to score in the U.S. but not in her native England. Her version first charted in the U.S. June 12, 1969 and peaked at #62 over a five week chart run. And even though it was her best single since the magnificent "Kiss Me Goodbye" in 1968, it charted lower than any of her previous 16 U.S. hits. It was also eclipsed by Andy Williams' concurrent version of the same song, which reached #22.

  81. P.... M....

It really is all in the words - the lyrics it not about throwaway pop tune aka Andy Wlliams she made a bif mistake giving him lea way with this song! Petula is the ultimate.

  82. k.... ....

Does ANYONE have the clip from the movie when the drag queens performed this song? That's the version I'm looking for.

  83. h.... ....

Andy Williams had Pet as a guest on his TV show in 1969. Not realizing that she had just released "Happy Heart," HE sang the song on that episode -- which, of course, promoted HIS just recorded single. Pet, offstage, was understandably stunned and hurt. (And, of course, had no TV show of her own.) Both versions first charted April 12, with Andy's peaking at #22 over an eleven week run. The version by Pet -- whose U.S. career was then declining -- peaked at #62 over a five week run.

    h.... ....

You have part of the story right except, it was Pet's T.V. special and Petula let Andy do the song because he had not had any hits recently . She was most definitely NOT stunned or hurt! She graciously gave Andy a break to sing the song he was so excited about when he and Petula were discussing which material they would be doing on the show. As to Pet's American career declining, that was because her husband failed to pay taxes in the USA, and she had to shift her career to Europe prdominantly.

  84. N.... ....

The lyrics are really happy but the melody sounds so sad.

  85. e.... ....

billy's hollywood screen kiss was my first time hearing this song too .. LOLOLOL !!!!!!
Come to find out my mom has these old albums ! ........One ugly ass drag queen lip-syncing this one ! What is it with queens & showtunes !

  86. M.... R....

Better range and more seductive. Pet's fabulous!

  87. D.... J....

@kohstamojahn Umm.. me too. You're not alone. haha

  88. A.... G....

Only knew the Andy Williams version - didn't know that Petula Clark did this slightly down tempo version. Love it!

  89. E.... R....

just amazing PET, what a beautiful song. love you LIZ

  90. s.... ....

this version is a lil slow and dreary to be happy i'm afraid.

  91. W.... A....

Lol i heard it on Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss too :D

  92. A.... K....

    @kohstamojahn Me too!!!

  93. J.... M....

LOL I think this song become immortalized by Billys Hollywood Screen Kiss... regardless, it's still awesome :)

  94. D.... G....

@warwickstar1 I love that drag queen. It just shows you don't have to be beautiful to be special. She was not what you'd call a looker but I thought she was just adorable.

  95. L.... T....

The 4 King Cousins sing this song ,they sing it so beautiful/

  96. w.... ....

I love this song. But now all I can picture is the Drag queen from Billy's hollywood screen kiss singing it. Still awesome.

  97. m.... ....

the music, lyrics, and vocals are all incredibly powerful. they just don't make pop music like they used to... :(

  98. M.... ....

    Just love this song!

  99. a.... ....

    Me, too. Don't feel bad.

  100. m.... ....

i love andy williams but i prefer petula's version - you can hear the words and it's lovely ( i can't understand what andy is actually saying! )
