City And Colour - The Lonely Life Lyrics

What if I did not love you?
Where would that leave me
Would I wander through the avenues
Under a pall of misery

Would I be face down in the gutter
With cheap whiskey on my breath
The lonely life of a writer
Whose words could not pay his debts

Singin' please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I've been blinded completely
Please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy

What if we became strangers?
Would you notice my face in a crowd?
And could you hear the sorrow in my voice?
Helplessly crying your name out loud

Would I be searching for a savior?
Burned and burning with regret
The lonely life of a writer
Only if one last desperate request

Singin' please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I've been blinded completely
Please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy

I've been on the lam
Being hunted, somethin' fierce
They say time and tide, it waits for no man
But I was just hopin'
These storm filled skies would clear

Please don't, please don't pass me by
Please don't, please don't pass me by
Please don't, please don't pass me by
I am alive, oh can't you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy

  4. J.... P....

    Amazing

  5. U.... V....

Sounded great on the radio, but I can't relate to most of these lyrics. This sounds like a depression brought on by narcissism and over-dependence on a partner. Can't one be lonely without being a massive pussy about it? Way too self-absorbed.

    U.... V....

I generally find the melody to be much more important than the lyrics

  6. N.... K....

What a rip off of Noel Gallagher's Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks..

  13. S.... ....

Disgusting this doesn't even have 50K views, just shows whats wrong with the world of music today.  Too much S#$% makes it into the lime light while the quality stuff gets shoved to the back.

@Cormac The Destroyer I'm canadian and I totally agree with your opinion. We hardly get any credit for any artist except for those three.

    S.... ....

@Trinnity this is soooo wrong : Drake, The Weekend, Swollen Member, Classified, (ever heard of BRYAN ADAMS) Simple Plan, Micheal Bublé, Leonard Cohen, also a little dj called deadmau5 is canadian. Shaianna Twain, the signer of Metric is canadian, Corey Hart, i could go on for a long time. just because city and color don't have all the attention it deserve it don't mean that canadian only get reconition for 3 artist...

This is`an example of example of truly great song writing. The words are simple but are put together in a way that evoke a mental image or an emotional response. Throughout the song is the strumming of a lonely acoustic guitar. This song makes it easier to tolerate all the trash music in the world.

Yea most def. That's why I love DG´s material. He can make a song be extremely powerful and moving with very simple phrases. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call talent.

  15. M.... F....

    This song is so sad..
