Chumbawamba - Amnesia Lyrics

Goodbye to the summer
Sold down the river
Unhappy ever after
Well did you ever?

Did you ever reach for the glued-down penny?
Same old joke and it's not funny
Burns are red, bruises blue
Out with the old cheated by the new

Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember...
Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember.....

You sing the same old verse
Stick like glue for better or worse
What goes around comes around
Again again again

This heart pulled apart
Hydra fighting head to head
Burns are red bruises blue
Out with the old cheated by the new

Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember...
Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember....

Amnesia

Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember...
Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember.....
Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember.....
Do you suffer from long-term memory loss?
I don't remember............

Forget the rest of the freak show, but the lead singer is a classical Aryan beauty and would and should have produced a cluster of children with the right man. Shame she bought into the left wing/anarchist/sjw/soapdodger low level scummy shallow end of the gene pool meme. Probably never had a decent father figure in her life. Ah well......never mind.

    C.... C....

Shut the fuck up, you mentally deficient Nazi-wannabe.
People like you are the ones who belong in gas chambers.

  25. G.... T....

I’m not quite sure how they can be anarchist, which is the absence of a government, and support a party that increases the government’s involvement. 🧐

this song will always be awesome

5x's as popular as "Tubthumping"..both great songs, this is just 5x's better!

    r.... ....

    Truth! ;-)

  44. a.... v....

The song was written about Blair and New Labour, basically selling old labour values out. I’m sure they’re probably something to do with Momentum now.

  45. K.... S....

    I still sing this song, when I found out I've done something, I don't remember 😂 💕 nostalgia 💕

  46. E.... ....

    Great tune and beautiful voice.

  50. O.... G....

    Short term memory lose unfortunately.

  51. B.... ....

    Isn’t this band from Germany?

    B.... ....

    Nope, the U.K. ;-)

    B.... ....

    SilentBob731 Thanks

    B.... ....

    No problem whatsoever... ;-)

  52. M.... S....

They were amazing, saw them three times. Beautifully crafted, heady mix of folk, punk and anthemic rock with a left wing warhead in the lyrics that could punch a hole through tory armour at three miles

    M.... S....

communism has failed everywhere it's been tried. It's one of those ideas that only appeals on paper, but fails miserably when put into practice.

    M.... S....

aabaa aabaaa - Cumbawamba weren't communists. They were anarchists. I wouldn't say anarchism was any more likely to work than communism, but it helps to characterise people correctly.

  53. L.... F....

This is not good... not good at all... only 1 hit.. shame

  54. F.... ....

This is actually a really good track

  55. P.... ....

My 1999 VHS tape brought me here..

    P.... ....

    Ahhh, VHS....good times.
Though, it was was a lot more work building a bootleg library before the internet.
    ;-)

    P.... ....

Technically, I was chasing MTV to record the video

  56. Z.... D....

    Whatever happened to Mary!! :D

  57. a.... ....

    I miss them.

  58. P.... W....

Tubthumping is popular bcos its f*ing catchy...which this song doesnt have...

    P.... W....

The plague was catchy. Didn’t make it good.

    P.... W....

    Nerdex - You're Awesome... ;-)

    P.... W....

Poccha Wanmos - You can say Fucking....it's O.K.
Also, you have shitty taste in music, which is O.K. too, most people do. ;-)

  59. T.... 1....

1:57 Shoes. let's get some shoes.

    T.... 1....

Tony Wilson god don't remind me about that

  60. M.... N....

ok funk names, titles, awards and the whole firkin' disgusting music industry, these are my people and the chumbas were never into gaining fame or money, quite the opposite..oh btw the best band that people have never heard of (disregarding tubthumping and timebomb)

  61. D.... S....

I just love this freaking song 😂

  62. .... c....

DO YOU SUFFER FROM LONG TERM MEMORY LOSS?

    .... c....

    I cant remember

  63. S.... F....

Well, this is by far their second best well known song, so that's pretty good in and of itself.

  64. N.... ....

THIS IS FUCKING IDIOTIC... if you suffered from long term memory loss, you would remember it if you just said it. You wouldn't remember it if you suffered SHORT term memory loss. And why the fuck is Jamie Lee Curtis from A Fish Called Wanda singing this song? Is this John Cleese's wet nightmare soundtrack?

    N.... ....

    You're fun...do you do children's parties?

    N.... ....

SilentBob731 he cracked me out 😂😂😂😂

  65. s.... ....

I remember this song well, but could never remember what it was called or who it was by! Just searched "do you suffer from long term memory loss song" and this popped up. Gotta love the internet! :-D

    s.... ....

I missed it being a hit because I was going through a period of turbulence and a move of house, but had it on a compilation album I bought some months later and liked it straight away.

  66. K.... D....

does this hold any relevance to anyone now opposed to when it came out? This song is the story of my life.

  67. R.... M....

    Awesome leftist band.Greeting Yugoslavia(Tito-Churchill)......

  68. N.... S....

Funny how this song will be remembered for being in an internet music
criticism series from a guy with 25 k subs.

    N.... S....

    +Hannyabal

There's a music reviewer called Todd in the Shadows with a series called "One Hit Wonderland". He had Chumbawamba on it for Tubthumping and mentioned this song. It's probably introduced quite a few people to it, including me. I'm certainly a fan.

    N.... S....

Actually; hes referring to the reviewer Spectum Pulse, and his "Billboard Breakdown" series.

It's pretty much a weekly in-depth analysis of the changes and trends of the songs of the Billboard Hot 100 list. This is the song that he uses for the intro for those videos.

And I can vouch that that would be where people would know about the song from, because it's certainly how I first heard it. (Although on the plus side, he's now up to 33 thousand subs.)

    N.... S....

+MichaelGMorgillo Oh, neat. Thanks for the correction.

    N.... S....

    MichaelGMorgillo
I first heard it in Todd In The Shadows' review. Though you're probably right, because Todd has 185k subscribers, not 25k like Nathan said.

    N.... S....

I first heard it back when i owned the cd when i was about 10 years old. I heard it before it was even on the radio.

  69. T.... ....

where is the male lead singer at in this video

  70. m.... ....

ahh the 90s and spice girls

  71. J.... B....

I honestly don't believe i have ever heard this song before. I'm rather enjoying it more than Tubthumping!

  72. A.... ....

Quite ironically a much forgotten [yet good] song...

  73. A.... ....

i thought i would never see this reuploaded. i remember there being a previous version titled Chumbawamba - Amnesia 1998 (Audio Enhanced) but the account was terminated. and i think this was that version.

    A.... ....

It might have been, though I may have downloaded this one from Bearshare way back in the day ("The Day" being 2005 or so).
I've been collecting music videos for a very long time now...
    ;-)

  74. T.... B....

Mid 90's Britain...wish I could go back in time to experience the weirdness again

  75. A.... D....

its weird how this never became a big 2nd single...this is catchy as hell

    A.... D....

Adam Domo and don't forget drip drip drip

  76. t.... ....

Every time somebody tries to call this band a "one hit wonder", I remember this song and the decent amount of radio/TV airplay it got at the time.

    t.... ....

trevgreg2 adding it to my list of forgotten hit songs, right next to Pop Muzik.

  77. K.... E....

-So let's start off with the Top 10...

  78. A.... A....

the 90's was a great time to be teen.. thanks God, cause i.heard bands like Oasis, Chumbawamba, Marcys Play Ground, Sound Garden, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, INXS, Offspring and many others

    A.... A....

Haha I'm 13 now and that is what I listen to on a daily basis, anything a d everything from the 50,s till the early 2000s is what I listen to

    A.... A....

@—Gorgon Blood— in my opinion that is when music was the most creative and truly blossomed. After the year 2000 music kinda started decomposing.

    A.... A....

@sloth indeed, there's very little music that has character and sounds like someone actually put thought into what they sing, y'know

    A.... A....

INXS and depeche mode were 80s not 90s

    A.... A....

@Midnight Witch they were also among the 90's hitmakers.

  79. M.... D....

'This should have been twice as popular as "Tubthumping" :-('
Unfortunately, society like mundane repetitive tunes. Songs with stories are a thing of the past for mainstream media.

    M.... D....

Fools Garden's "Lemon Tree" became a hit pretty much all over Europe and it's the worst song on their brilliant album "Dish of the Day". And it still saddens me that most people only know this one popular song and never heard of "The Tocsin".

    M.... D....

Even more so today than back then, sadly.

    M.... D....

First off its tub thumber that's the best goddamn song under the sun

  80. J.... ....

    ...and THIS is Billboard Breakdown!

  81. S.... ....

    Well shit. They tried...

  82. M.... H....

    Twice as popular?

    I agree.

    M.... H....

    Mike H. 3x

  83. L.... S....

    who remembers this song?

you see what i did there?

    L.... S....

    Dan , I don't remember...

  84. M.... W....

    Awesome! I loved this song for......I don't remember1

  85. b.... m....

Only 15, 000 views?  Interesting.  This whole album was great.  "Hail Mary, full of grace, the lord is with you..."  One of few albums I take out of my collection and can STILL listen to it.

  86. V.... K....

It's about the British Labour Party and Tony Blair, for those who don't know.

    V.... K....

I just checked wikipedia and you are right. So, they weren't self-critical after all. According to Oi Polloi, they were hypocritical instead.

    V.... K....

@Milan Pokorný On the other hand, they did sell the rights to use Pass It Around in an ad to General Motors for $100k. They then took that money and donated it to CorpWatch and IndyMedia to launch an environmental campaign against GM.

    V.... K....

Looking at the UK's EU elections results coming in, it seems pretty apt here, too.

    V.... K....

    Holy crap it’s Imperial Amnesia
This song makes so much more sense now 😱😆

    V.... K....

And yet they leave the lyrics ambiguous... you could easily imagine it being about a relationship gone sour.

  87. j.... D....

    Brilliant song!

  88. T.... C....

    i don't remember...

  89. J.... S....

    #TBT MuchMusic Countdown February 13 1998

  90. A.... R....

Great song by a band that should have been better known for their body of work and not just for one mega-song. Great music and always a philosophy of supporting the underdog. Wish we had more such concerned and talented bands today.

    A.... R....

Andrew Rooke Here's to a band who told its fans to steal their album so as to avoid lining the pockets of the label that signed them.

    A.... R....

Andrew Rooke in the UK I'm sure they were huge

    A.... R....

I've always thought that Chumbawamba's proposal of choral arrangements and brass along with interesting and minimalist melodic construction was superb. Honestly, Tubthumping was one of the weakest songs in their catalogue, both lyrically and musically, so it's a shame it was the most famous. Pretty much everything else by them is superb, and I really miss them.

    A.... R....

They were more concerned with their socialist/communist rhetoric than their music.

    A.... R....

@Artistical still remembering or "i cant remember" how good chumbawumba was/still is? If not get back to it my friend 😁

  91. m.... ....

Such a shame that because of the one massive hit (which I like as well) not many realise what a great album Tubthumper is

    m.... ....

I believe their awful art cover had something to do with that.

    m.... ....

mjaief It was such a good album! I played it to pieces in my car in high school!

    m.... ....

Not bad for an anarchist collective whose original album work was censored.

  92. S.... ....

Here's one of theirs that I'd co-opted for American Politics.
Too little, too late I'm afraid...
