Chuck Berry - No Money Down Lyrics

As I was motivatin'
Back in town
I saw a Cadillac sign
Sayin' "No Money Down"
So I eased on my brakes
And I pulled in the drive
Gunned my motor twice
Then I walked inside
Dealer came to me
Said "Trade in your Ford
And I'll put you in a car
That'll eat up the road
Just tell me what you want
And then sign on that line
And I'll have it brought down to you
In a hour's time"

I'm gonna get me a car
And I'll be headed on down the road
Then I won't have to worry
About that broken-down, raggedy Ford

"Well, Mister, I want a yellow convertible
Four-door de Ville
With a Continental spare
And a wide chrome wheel
I want power steering
And power brakes
I want a powerful motor
With a jet off-take
I want air condition
I want automatic heat
And I want a full Murphy bed
In my back seat
I want shortwave radio
I want TV and a phone
You know I gotta talk to my baby
When I'm ridin' alone"

Yes, I'm gonna get that car
And I'm gonna head on down the road
Yeah, then I won't have to worry
About that broken-down, raggedy Ford

"I want four carbeurators
And two straight exhausts
I'm burnin' aviation fuel
No matter what the cost
I want railroad air horns
And a military spark
And I want a five-year guarantee
On everything I got
I want ten dollar deductible
I want twenty dollar notes
I want thirty thousand liability"
That's all she wrote

I got me a car
And I'm headed on down the road
No money down
I don't have to worry
About that broken-down, raggedy Ford

“I don’t have to worry about that broken down ragged Fo’d.”

    Motoring peace of mind.

Yeah missed that verse I want four "carburators" - Love that pronounciation as opposed to the English "carburettors" - Chuck was as good a bluesman as a rock'n'roller. When I first saw him in 1962 he came out playing the blues but the audience wanted Johnny B Goode. Such a shame they couldn't be patient & let him get to it in his own time but in my experience audiences are totally narrow minded & unwilling to let an artist do what they want to do. They just want what they came to hear! Witness Bob Dylan & The Band in 1966! Saw the same thing with Buddy Guy & Junior Wells in 1978 at Hammersmith Apollo. The crowd just wanted them to boogie it up when they wanted to start off sweet & quiet... Why don't these bigots just sit home & listen to the records if they want a pre-digested experience instead of being open to what the artist wants to bring to the table. They ruined more than a few gigs for those of us who wanted to listen!

All of George's songs are 'inspired' from Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry or Hound Dog Taylor. Go back to the roots. George is a white boy. The blues ain't white.

    c.... p....

What does George's skin color have to do with anything? White people can't sing the blues?

This. Video and shortened song is not the complete version of his song. And he. Looks so old and tired that this video is an insult to him.And what is all that foreign language doing on the video?

    r.... j....

They're called 'subtitles', obviously broadcast on a foreign television network. Chuck is appreciated all over the world. Also, this recording was done to fit into a time-limit set by the studio. It was his 60th birthday, he's allowed to look 'old'.

  21. r.... j....

This is not the original song he sang.It is a shortened version. He sang about wanting four carburators, two straight exhaust, and burn aviation fuel, no matter what it cost. All I know is this song is probably made and video recorded when he was a lot older and notice foreign language on film. If he was alive today, this ripoff version of his fantastic song would not be shown.I was around when this song came out.Shame on this lousy version and video.

    r.... j....

If he was alive?? He IS, and four years later! Where you BIN, boy? lol

  22. r.... j....

I used to sing that song with my friends at parties when "I Wore A Younger Man"s clothes. Figure out my age.?

    A classic, thanks for posting!

  45. d.... ....

Without Chuck Berry there is no Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood, Jimi Hendrix he created Rock n Roll with the great gentlemen of Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis you know where i'm going with this don't you guys? lol

  46. v.... ....

What a genius! Loved him since the 1950's! I guess he's too old to duck walk as of the time when this was shot, but I love ththe duck walk too. He must be in his eighties now. Seems to me he doesn't just "play the guitar." He uses it to create.
