I enjoyed Cher with Sonny & Cher, hated her disco foray, loved her rock with Black Rose. How she didn't become a great female rocker with material like this is beyond comprehension. This is so much better than many records that were issued at that time. This is a balls-out rocker in the tradition of Joan Jett, Pat Benatar but in some ways it's....this is hard to say...it's better. It has grit and it's dynamic the way rock should be. The only female rockers I can compare it to (are also basically unknown) -- Kit Hain and Karen Lawrence of 1994.
Hey John, I loved it too, and still do. However she had image problems at that time, radio stations completely ignored it, as even did her record company(Casablanca then), they saw her as a lightweight pop star, and the attitude was "how dare she", she would later get to do the rock music she so wanted to make during her Geffen era, and of course as always, Cher had the last laugh...
Yes, I was aware that she wasn't properly promoted with this style. Too bad. They missed out on a Cher I preferred. She was quite accomplished and comfortable with this sound too. The disco Cher just never clicked with me. I liked her when she did Sonny & Cher songs like "Little Man," that kicked ass. Thanks for the info Mark.

Album is on CD but the company that reissued it changed the album cover art from what it was originally intended to be to a concert portrait of Cher holding the mic. The reissue company marketed it as a Cher album. Not even Cher is happy about the cover change.
It was reissued on CD in Germany
on the original Casablanca label,
with the original album cover
and credited to Black Rose,
as it originally was.

I ordered this album through a local record store....which then went out of business. Years later, I found a vinyl copy of this record in the discount bins for 4.99 after paying $15.00 for the copy I never got. And it was worth every penny.
