Cher - Impossible Dream Lyrics
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable stars
This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right without question or pause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause
And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

Cher Impossible Dream Comments
Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon sang this in 'The Trip To Spain'; they talked about Don Quixote in this a lot.
Impressive!
Thoughtful tribute, Jason. I wasn't aware Leigh had died. The Impossible Dream is from an era of songwriting we may never see the likes of again.
Hi Liz! He died today. I love this song so much. Recently I met a couple songwriters that were pretty amazing. But good ones are rare these days.
@Chivalryaintdead I was thinking mainly of show tunes from the 50s and 60s. So many of them are simply timeless. There are many good songwriters now but songs today don't try to inspire us with great uplifted messages the way so many of the old songs do.
@liz1060 I agree Liz. Good uplifting messages are rare these days.
