Cheap Trick - The Ballad Of TV Violence Lyrics
I needed a girl to give me some love
I need some love, gimme your love
Gimme your love
I need a knife to give me a wife
Gimme your life
I need a gun to have me some fun
I need a gun, (gimme your love
Gimme your love)
I need some rope, it's my only hope
(after twenty or so) i just don't know
[verse 1]
I was a lonely boy
I was a lonely boy
I'm not the only boy
I was a lonely boy
I was a lonely boy
I'm not the only boy
[verse 1]
[verse 2]
I need some rope, it's my only hope
And why you fight it so i just don't know
[verse 1]
I was the lonely boy
I was the lonely boy
I'm not the only boy
I'm not the only boy, no
No no no

Cheap Trick The Ballad Of TV Violence Comments
that last part was badass, I was a lonely boy, I'm not the only boy!
Jesus, was that scary! Nothing Alice Cooper or Ozzy ever did was a frightening as that. Robin could've been an actor if he wanted to. Holy crap!
Rest, speck.
The American Beatles!
I like them better than the Beatles. I was always a Yardbirds fan.
Listen to Robin scream at the endn holy crap
12 D- bags voted thumbs down
al-alright!!
Night Flight...
Forget It!!!
Hurry, I might get away!!!
You can have ALL my love!!!
I Love this song!!!
Love this song!
Helllllloooo fricken in my blood
The Principal of my junior high school wouldn't let anyone wear a Cheap Trick T-shirt because he said it meant a hooker.
Andrew Chase bwhahaha, what are you people all on dope? Thanks for that, different times man 😂
That’s exactly what it means.
new music tip...Check out GLITTER DOGS///
70's style melodic rock
Album: COLORS THAT FADE
on YouTube and Spotify
The end of this masterpiece is more grunge than Nirvana!!! Wow!!!
I'm going to admit something that I'm only hearing now in this song. Also as a bass player, and Tom being a huge influence on my playing...this was the first time hearing Tom's bass lines at the end of this...I've never heard what was going on underneath Robin's screaming blue murder at the end! WOW! Thank you for posting this. I've been listening to this album practically every week since 78. My ears continue to bring me new sounds, on old tunes..
the best voice.......
Ken Adamany was the manager of Cheap Trick for the longest time. Are you related to him somehow?
.....ever!
When Cheap Trick was really, really good. Any other drummer and this band is done after this album. Even Speck switched genders and turned prison into a giant cocaine party.
Oh. Yeah. !!!Like Westrocker says: This is CT's "HelterSkelter". After 30 years of jumping around with this track at crazy volume, it has the same impact as the first time. Gonna see them again in Aug and freaks out all over z place
Listen to this album back in the 70s. Great music back when we were in high school. Great time, friends. Need a time machine!
This song scary me lol
The self-titled debut album of cheap trick in 1977 especially this particular song ,was light years ahead of everybody else that year, probably with the exception of some of David Bowie's work and maybe The Clash. but cheap trick as musicians could play circles around the Clash except for Topper. also Joe and Mick could not do vocals like this to save their life. Cheap Trick can be justifiably proud that they have a quote from Kurt Cobain in a very early 90s interview with a journalist when asked about the Nirvana sound. " We sound like Cheap Trick, except the guitars are louder"
your words are true. I love Nirvana, but the dope Kurt was on when he made that statement must have been really good! I agree with what you said about it being light years ahead of it's time..take any of Robin's lyrics from that album, and the subject matter is just as dark, and twisted as anything that claimed to be dark and twisted at the time! "I needed a knife to get me a wife"...that's Vincent Price macabre! And in spite of that bubblegum label they got, they were doing this! Makes you wonder who gave them THAT title? Peace..
Agreed, but maybe even add in the Ramones. CT was my first rock concert (behind Elvis and {cough, cough} Liberace). What a great band that still kicks ass!!
Was originally called the Ballad of Richard Speck
"I'm freakish."
i forgot how much i loved this rockin song
Fuckin Awesome Brilliant Band!
Somebody fix the audio!
This is the greatest song I've ever heard in my life. Heavy Metal Beatles if you ask me. CT Rules forever...and I'm not the only boy who thinks so.
That's true, Ditto.
Seeing them again in two weeks in Hampton NH!
There is a woman talking at the beginning, before the song, but I can only make out her saying something like "in the center". Anyone understand any more of it?
"Centered the way I like it"
@Blind Terry Tucci
1st world problems
@n3viem yeah right go to Sudan and they'll probably be wondering the same thing as the Terry was, they own computers too and have internet access you know so 'first world problems' pffftt try again son.
When I introduce my friends to this album and explain the meanings of the different songs they are amazed at how deep Cheap Trick got in those days... I hear the same thing over and over... "This is the same band who sings I Want You to Want Me?". Yep, Cheap Trick rocks and were ahead of their time. If you listen to modern rock groups they will list Cheap Trick as an influence. Read the lyrics to this album and you've got to agree that Rick and the band are excellent song writers. He's a Whore, Ballad of Richard Speck, and Mendocino... wow. Way ahead of their time.
That's right!
They were diverse... On the white album the Beatles had Helper Skelter and Oh blah de Oh blah da
I love this song. At 3:50 through the end it's just a complete sense of descending into madness. The expression in this music is incredible. But of course, Neilson and Zander are just awesome.
this is the music vid
Thanks for the better word usage!
this song should be named Nirvana before Nirvana\m/
a fuckin' masterpiece,i hate the music of today
Bigger than the Beatles is kinda overselling your point, but they are a great band. I saw them last summer and they ROCKED ! Better than Kiss ? Oh absolutely. Out there because they love playing, not for profit.
Oh !!!!!! Long time no see! *Big silly grin* Classic! Looove these guys, so glad The Ottowa incident left the band unharmed.... :)
@dylanfan1969 OMG, "The Latest" is INCREDIBLE!!! How the fuck do they keep on doing it? Rick Neilson's a genius...
@rickkrackk I saw them do it back then, too...that was the one I picked to buy tickets for for my whole family, 'cause they did all three earliest records in a row in Boston...got tickets for me and another person for "In Color" the next night, too, but everybody declined...idiots.
I do really love this song, which is why I was so frustrated...I once recorded them doing it live, but I ruined it by accidentally covering the mic on the camera while trying to manage a good close-up, so I went to a gig in another state the day after, just to record it again...they didn't do it, though, and it wouldn't have mattered, anyway, I got the tape taken away at the end of the show...it has one of the most intense conclusions EVER, Robin's fucking incredible...my fave Cheap Trick song..
This is an example of how NOT to make a fucking video...the intense ending w/ Robin screaming is wasted on showing Rick jumping around playing guitar...really disappointing....
Bun E. Freaking Carlos!! I got to see them live at the Garden which was intense, but the entire building shook when he banged those drums!!
the screaming at the end cracks me up xD
They kind of reminded me of bands like Kiss, Def Leppard , Poison...Each individual had personality Not just a stiff puppet playing thru their set while the lead singer does his bit and lead guitarist does thiers
I LOVE this song....It's Cheap Trick's "Walrus" if they ever had a Walrus. ;-) I love the build...Yes, what you said about the sublety of the build of this song is mind blowing. I just saw them perform this live in Anaheim about a week ago...and WOW!!!
@big7foot Im from Alton Illinois and they played at the expo there when I was in 5th or 6th grade, and I remember they said "ballad of richard speck" I only remember this because my dad had to explain who richard speck was to me.
@dylanfan1969 Yes, it's amazing! I haven't found anything they've done that I don't like. "I Dig Go Go Girls" is even growing on me now, and that was a hard one to take, at first!
I want to be Rick for the 5 seconds starting at 3:25! Robin must be watching somehow because he seems to be laughing at what Rick is doing behind his back. I'd be wanting a cigarette after that too, and I don't even smoke!
I love this video and was so happy to find it here!! I rented the CD from the library and listened to this and Mandocello over and over all the way from Phoenix to Vegas yesterday. I can't get enough of Cheap Trick!!
They've done everything right that a band could do as far as creating history. That's why I like them so much..
@kevinocooldaddy Agreed I own Cheap Trick (the black album), Special One, and Rockford. All 3 are great! I need to get The Latest. Has anyone heard it all yet?
Just saw them in Austin on 3/19. They ROCKED this song! Robin's still got the pipes
Fuck yes!!!!
The 1st LP RULES!
I have this on tape still. haha. I need to upgrade because it's been 20 years since i heard this album..
The first album is my all time favorite!!
The new stuff is like the first album!!!
Me so happy!!
Johnny
I agree Rockford is still 1 of the 6 CD's in car CD Player
Best song they ever did imo. LOVE it.
Damn glad to see CT has a youtube page! Yeah their 1st album was su-poib !
Rick looks like a serial killer at the beginning. lmao
waukegan

A RockyGems 5 star choice!
A timeless classic from the first album.Crank this mother way up !!!
