Cheap Trick - On Top Of The World Lyrics

You're on top of the world
On top of the world and you can't
Get any higher-You're on top of the world
You're on top of the world tonight
It wasn't easy- it was hard as hell
You didn't get luck in a wishin' well
Never worked so hard- had so much pain
Wouldn't change for anything
Learned love from a movie screen
He was tough, she was wild at fifteen
Quit school and had no dreams
Wasn't going very far
Then he got religion and she got a god
It's on her back and it's in his job
And it costs lots of money, honey- oh, no
Breakdown nearly every day
Shoulda known- couldn't get away
Got lucky with the girl next door
She was lonely and didn't care
She was young, she was dark, she was fair
Wrapped herself around you with her stare
You'd explode if she would touch you there
Touch you there- touch you there
Tonight, tonight-tonight-tonight
You're on top of the world
On top of the world and you can't
Get any higher
You're on top of the world
You're on top of the world tonight
(Can you hear me, can you see me) You're on top of the world tonight
(Can you hear me, can you see me) You're on top of the world tonight
(Can you hear me, can you see me) You're on top of the world tonight
(Can you hear me, can you see me) You're on top of the world tonight

Simply fuckin one of the best American bands period!!!!!

  7. E.... F....

Saw Cheap Trick open for Uriah Help circa 1978 at the Paramount (Kirby) in Wilkes-Barre, PA. They didn't hit mainstream until years later. Still have Rick's guitar picks from that show. 40 years ago!

  19. m.... p....

Ever figure out why you couldn't play these basslines when you were a kid? Because the fucker was phenomenal and he played custom Gibson 8 string basses made in kzoo mi. Nobody else would make them for him.

  20. D.... R....

    Awesome band.

  21. D.... S....

What makes this better than the live version is the keyboards. Without them, this is a different song.

  22. m.... ....

    favorite Cheap Trick song!

  23. b.... 1....

    Break down nearly every day.............

  24. J.... K....

Sorry for this but it's normal life on Hollywood boulevard.
Simple whack laid out like a dead thug.

  25. J.... K....

I listen to Cheap Trick so much because they're sarcastic bastards.
In Los Angeles I want punk rock and sometimes these typical bands
come out here and play it for me. X at the roxy comin' on tonight.
    Just for example.

  26. a.... s....

Forgot how good they were. Also did great cover of california man by the move.

  27. K.... R....

Reminds me of bar hopping Chicago burbs and hitting Genes and Judes in River Grove. Great times.

  28. B.... T....

    #Cheaptrick

  29. G.... ....

Is it wrong that I prefer this song over _Imagine Dragons'_ "On Top of the World"?

  30. O.... ....

...it begins a little like Helter Skelter!

  31. D.... P....

    Steffan Pila

Cheap Trick pays homage to Electric Light Orchestra on two songs: "ELO Kiddies" and "On Top Of The World." I heard that they were huge fans of the band, the Move.

    D.... P....

California Man was written and performed by The Move

    D.... P....

Check out California man and Brontosaurus,

    D.... P....

and the version of "California Man" on "Heaven Tonight" also includes a bit from the Move's "Brontosaurus" (the slow part in the middle) which Cheap Trick covered later on...

  32. D.... N....

They go full ELO at 3:03.

  33. j.... p....

    G.... I....

That's why I went with cassettes.I hated having a song split into pieces.

  41. p.... ....

Utter greatness with a lot of humor. One of the best songs on Heaven Tonight.

  42. N.... C....

It's not just a Chicago/Illinois thing. Cheap Trick is truly a great rock and roll band.

    N.... C....

  43. T.... L....

hot, slinky, forbidden song....   I was 16.

  44. K.... K....

It's just a shame that no footage exists of these guys in smaller halls, off the paths beaten through the hinterlands of the upper central states.
They were loud, raw, frantic, devastating.
They really cared about those who were moved and touched by the power of their performances.
The vinyl bootlegs are dirty lenses through which we can glimpse vignettes from this history.
    Go find 'em.
    Rock On.

    K.... K....

I discovered them from Nirvana and Pixies being influenced by them

    K.... K....

    Well put! Thanks!
