Charlotte Church - Men of Harlech Lyrics

Wele goelcerth wen yn fflamio
A thafodau tan yn bloeddio,
Ar I'r dewrion ddod I daro,
Unwaith eto n un:
Gan fanllefau'r tywysogion
Llais gelynion, trwst arfogion,
A charlamiad y marchogion,
Craig ar graig a grbn!
Arfon byth ni orfydd.
Cenir yn dragywydd;
Cymru fydd fel Cymru fu,
Yn glodus ymysg gwledydd,
'Nghwyn oleuni'r goelcerth acw,
Tros wefusau Cymro'n marw,
Annibyniaeth sydd yn galw,
Am ei dewraf dyn.

Hark I hear the foe advancing
Barbed steeds are proudly prancing,
Helmets in the sunbeams glancing
Symru fo am byth
Men of Harlech lie ye dreaming?
See ye not their falchions gleaming,
While their penons gaily streaming
Cymru fo am byth.
From the rocks rebounding
Let the war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambria's Call
The haughty for surrounding
Men of Harlech on to glory
See your banner famed in story,
Waves these burning words before ye,
Cymru fo am byth! Men of Harlech! In the Hollow,
Do ye hear like rushing billow
Wave on wave that surging follow
Battle's distant sound?
Tis the tramp of Saxon foemen,
Saxon spearmen, Saxon bowmen,
Be they knights or hinds or yeomen,
They shall bite the ground!
Loose the folds asunder,
Flag we conquer under!
The placid sky now bright on high,
Shall launch its bolts in thunder!
Onward! 'tis the country needs us,
He is bravest, he who leads us
Honor's self now proudly heads us,
Freedom, God and Right!

Cambria (Wales) will not yield.

Cambria (Wales) will not yield.

Cambria (Wales) will not yield.

  1. R.... I....

    I wish I knew Welsh

  2. B.... ....

What a lovely voice from a beautiful young Lady. A stirring song.

  3. V.... ....

It astonishes me how a person's speaking voice can be so very different from their singing voice.

  4. A.... S....

    voice of an angel!

  5. M.... H....

    My God!!! Amazing.

  6. T.... G....

    It starts an 02:17.

  8. V.... T....

Imagine hearing the voices of men sing this echoing
Nearby the trench you've captured hearing
    The souls of men shouting
    They nay fear nothing

Along the lines a man sat cowering
    After hearing shells dropping
    As Gaeia herself lay screaming

    With smoke and fear fleeing
Raised head and heard the singing ending
As bayonets old yet bloodied flashing.

"I wanted to make it simple but decided otherwise, cause it's fun to make though in a span of a minute."

  9. p.... m....

Voice as clear as the proverbial bell!

  10. B.... 1....

  11. A.... S....

Respect from England. and a Merry Christmas!

  12. K.... M....

    Charlotte is singing in Elvish!

  13. C.... H....

With all full and due respect to Charlotte Church and her incredible talent, this is not a song for an operatic arrangement. Her voice is beautiful, but it lacks the gravity necessary for a song about men going into battle. It's like a church choir singing 'Dixie'... they mean well, but it's definitely missing something.

  14. E.... P....

Im a Scot , but our officer on the takin of Q8 was Welsh . he played Men of Harlech as we ran down the plates of RFA Sir Percivale. Never felt so good

It is good to enjoy real quality music it shows society has not lost it we must keep on creating avenues for moral culture and fine arts and introduce it to the young generation to keep it alive and overcome this negative low class evils that is threatening to destroy our youth

  83. G.... G....

    English version by John Guard
    Verse 1

Tongues of fire on Idris flaring,
    News of foemen near declaring,
    To heroic deeds of daring,
    Call you, Harlech men.
    Groans of wounded peasants dying,
Wails of wives and children flying,
    For the distant succour crying,
    Call you, Harlech Men.
    Shall the voice of wailing,
    Now be unavailing,
You to rouse, who never yet
    In battle's hour were failing?
This our answer, crowds down pouring,
    Swift as winter torrents roaring.
Not in vain the voice imploring
    Calls on Harlech men.
    Verse 2

Loud the martial pipes are sounding,
    Every manly heart is bounding,
    As our trusted chief surrounding,
    March we, Harlech men.
    Short the sleep the foe is taking;
Ere the morrow's morn is breaking,
They shall have a rude awakening,
    Roused by Harlech Men.
    Mothers, cease your weeping,
    Calm may be your sleeping,
You and yours in safety now,
    The Harlech men are keeping.
Ere the sun is high in heaven,
They you fear, by panic riven,
Shall, like frightened sheep, be driven,

    Far, by Harlech men.

    Zulu Version

Men of Harlech stop your dreaming
Can't you see their spear points gleaming
    See their warrior pennants streaming
    To this battlefield
Men of Harlech stand ye steady
It cannot be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
    Welshmen never yield
    From the hills rebounding
    Let this song be sounding
    Summon all at Cambria's call
    The mighty force surrounding
Men of Harlech on to glory
This will ever be your story
Keep these burning words before ye
    Welshmen will not yield

  84. O.... K....

What a privilege it is to hear this , absolutely brilliant!

  85. G.... ....

This song is about killing Saxons, just in case you're interested, and the tune has been ripped off for a millennia.

    G.... ....

English, Saxons or Germans what's the difference?

  86. e.... ....

As an Englishman with no welsh blood at all I love this song , long live wales on of 4 countries that make up this great nation of ours

    e.... ....

You can be forgiven when you understand that only 10 soldiers of the 1/24 that fought in the battle were Welsh. Many of the soldiers of the junior battalion, the 2/24, were Welshmen.[55] Of the 122 soldiers of the 24th Regiment present at the Battle of Rorke's Drift, 49 are known to have been of English nationality, 32 were Welsh, 16 were Irish, one was a Scot, and three were born overseas. The nationalities of the remaining 21 are unknown.[56]

  87. r.... ....

    Wonderful!!!

  88. e.... k....

Obviously they skipped the verse that says welsh men have a right to have sex with wooly animals eg..sheep......that's the BBC for you.

  89. J.... P....

Voice of an Angel combined with the magnificence that is a Welsh male choir, performing one of the great songs of ALL Britannia. BRAVO!

    J.... P....

I hadn't heard about her foray into pop music. She remains so sweet and charming and good. This is surely one of the most underrated nationalistic songs. I have never heard a good recording of it. So, thanks, YouTube.

  90. D.... D....

Listen to the music the father wants for pease put your weapons down a week no guns but help each other with kindness. PLEASE

  91. D.... B....

Stirs a Welshmans heart well quarter welsh anyway

  92. K.... S....

Surely the Welsh can do better than that !

  93. r.... m....

As a man and boy of Wessex, it brings a lump to my throat when i hear this song sung. For as i am English, i welcome the Welsh to sing as their heart needs, as i sing Jerusalem, let them sing Men of Harlech.

  94. C.... O....

not bad, but i like the movie version from zulu more

  95. T.... ....

Amazing... I'm a Welshman, now in Australia. This brought tears to my eyes!

  96. p.... ....

I visited Port Merriion because I'm a fan of "The Prisoner." And we stayed in a B&B. And asked what is nearby. And Castle Harlech was just about 2 miles down the road. And at that moment I felt the Welsh side of my family tree pretty strongly. We visited and walked around all day. I found myself saying "Welshmen will not yield" about every 3 minutes. Right now the emotion is kind of leaking through.

  97. B.... ....

That sounded like pride of Welsh Nationalism........ as an Englishman, I say well done, and more of it. Fuck the EU's ideal of globalisation. True Brits regard our nation as English, Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish; the EU think we are a toy to be played with. Our tiny islands have influenced the whole world, and we are still an economic force to be reckoned with. Long live Wales, and long live Britain.

  98. j.... m....

Great to here the welsh sing in Celtic come on Wales throw of the English yoke and join Scotland in freedom
