Charley Pride - Wonder Could I Live There Anymore Lyrics
Have you ever been awaken by the crowing of a rooster
While the night is still heavy on the ground
And the voice of Uncle Ben seems to break the morning silence
Bringing lights to windows all around
Well it's time to rise and shine and start another hard work day
It's nice to think about it maybe even visit but I wonder could I live there anymore
Something bout the smell of cornbread cooking on a wood stove
Seems to bring a picture to my mind
Of a little three room house with mama in the kitchen
But she can't stop to talk ain't got the time
She's a fixing dad his supper he's a working over time
Tryin' to pay our bill at the grocery store
It's nice to think about it maybe even visit but I wonder could I live there anymore
I don't really miss them like before
It's nice to think about it maybe even visit but I wonder could I live there anymore

I don't really miss them like before
It's nice to think about it, maybe even visit it
But I wonder could I live there anymore.....

Charley is the BEST!
2019❣
he's singing about my life growing up on a farm !
How things have changed!
Today's music is nothing!
Who heard of such language !
Now this is music!
The mix on this particular version? Is truly the epitome of just how great a vocalist Charlie Pride truly is! LOVE IT!
On the RCA label, heard this on then WMIL 1290/95.7 Milwaukee...later on WBAY 1360 Green Bay in 1970.
This one of the songs that got me hooked on traditional country.
This is for you lowy Quartermaine

Great song by Charley Pride. 👍👍
I great song about growing up in a rural area of our great country. I am so grateful for my rural roots! But like Charley, I wonder could I live there anymore?

ha...I do still live there...on the old family farm, in the same house my grandpa and grandma lived in. I have roosters that wake me up every morning. One that comes to the back porch to roost at night and so every morning he awakens me with his crowing. I love to hear his 4 AM crow. I have a whole back yard full of farm birds. I cannot imagine living anywhere else. The city? Not for me.
Yeah I couldn't either
Me either
being a dairy farmer its nice to hear a song that mentions milking cows
Love this song!! thanks so much for sharing my friend..god bless
This great song was written after a vacation trip songwriter Bill Rice took to his hometown, in the summer months of 1969, and was recorded by Country Charlie Pride in 1970. :-)
For my Patsy...love you.xxxxx
I know Charley didn't write the song but he well could have. Today's country stars can't honestly sing about humble beginnings and working their way to the top from obscuerity
I call Charley Pride my second dad. Such a great song
Something about the smell of cornbread cooking on a wood-stove
I was raised on a farm love it 😊
He's a working overtime, trying to pay our bill at the grocery store.
I can't get it out my head, aaaaaam crazy with it
@cedrick mwanje appreciate you listening
have you ever been awakened by a crowing of a rooster:) yes!:)
All the time, since I have chicken coops in my backyard and neighbors also have chickens. It's nice how they give a clear indicator if it's an early morning or not, like if you hear the rooster crowing it's probably 6, 7 or 8 am so you can go back to sleep until noon, roosters never crow at noon :)
There is so much musical talent out there and Charlie Pride is right there with the best of them. Many in the music field have given us great music and a legacy of their talent to enjoy. Love this song, just can't hear it enough and I play it often.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and AMAZING!!...This song was Charley's 4th consecutive #1 single on the country charts!...It hit the number one spot for 2 weeks, (July 25th, & August 1st) back in 1970!...Thanks so much Mr. Gauntt for sharing yet another beauty! ..Take Care! :)
