Charley Pride - I'll Be Leaving Alone Lyrics

Yes, I'll buy you a drink
If you'd like me to
I might even dance
A slow one with you

Lord, knows you're a looker
And, honey, what's more
It's not hard to see
What you're looking for

'Cause you're as tempting a woman
As I've ever seen
But there's someone in Dallas
Who's trusting in me

She's the mother of my children
I'm the rock she leans on
So thank you but no thank you
I'll be leaving alone

As we dance in the shadows
And you're holding me tight
I can feel the invitation
I've seen in your eyes

And the soft light and the music
And the wine's rosy glow
Ain't making it easy
For me to say no

'Cause you're as tempting a woman
As I've ever seen
But there's someone in Dallas
Who's trusting in me

She's the mother of my children
I'm the rock she leans on
So thank you but no thank you
I'll be leaving alone

So thank you but no thank you
I'll be leaving alone

Take a moment to appreciate how the lyrics fit together. The words are a masterpiece in themselves. I don't know who could have sung them half so well....maybe George Jones. Anyway, thank you, but no thank you: I'll stick with Charley's version.

This is what Country is all about. First heard Charley in 1970 and have been a big fan ever since. Nothing better than listening to Charley when life is a bit iffy.

  21. Christopher D'Cruz

I first heard the Great Charley Pride on a mate's cassette when I was in my 20's and the very first song I heard Mr. Pride sing was-- I threw away the rose and Oh my God that deep voice and singing-style completely bowled me over! My dad and myself were great fans of Country Music and Jim Reeves was our favourite singer then--no one could touch him & I remember borrowing this cassette and playing it to my dad.We couldn't believe he being a negro sang C&W so well.Loved him ever since! The Best!
