Conway did this. It was a big hit then. Conway's version was my favorite. Charley had his own songs that still last like "Snakes Crawl at Night," etc.

+webbjr37 I don't know for an absolute fact but i'm 99%sure Conway was the first.
It's possible some tiny label artist cut it first but it's unlikely because it's too good of a song not to have gone to a big star from the get go.
