Charles, Ray - I Don't Need No Doctor Lyrics
I don't need no doctor
'Cause I know what's ailing me
I don't need no doctor, no, no
'Cause I know what's ailing me
I've been too long away from my baby, ahh!
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor
For my prescription to be filled
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor, I tell ya now
For my prescription to be filled
(I don't need no doctor)
Only my baby's arms,
Could ever take away this chill
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
Now the doctor say I need rest
(hey hey)
Before I need her tenderness
(hmmm hmm)
Put me on the critical list
(hey hey)
When all I need is her sweet kiss
(hmmm hmm)
He gave me a medicated lotion
But it didn't soothe
(It didn't soothe)
My emotion
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor
For my hope to live is gone
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor, no, no
Wahhh! my hope to live is gone
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
All I need is my baby
Baby, Please!
Won't you please come on home
(I don't need no doctor)
You know what I'm talkin' about?
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no mattress (?)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no lotion
(I don't need no doctor)
I say, I don't need, no vitamin pills
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no lotion
(I don't need no doctor)
I say, I don't need, no vitamin pills
(I don't need no doctor)

Everyone talking about the wasp version... I’ll say it wasn’t bad by any stretch of the term but it’s a direct cover of humble pies version and nobody but nobody could ever beat Steve Marriott
easily the most powerful version.
Отличный трек)
The song is so good, even Ray Charles (I am a Metalhead and wouldn't have any interest in this guy otherwise), can't ruin it....I do admit he does his best, but check out both Humble Pie and my fav band W.A.S.P for superior versions, especially the later.
Are you high?
@Jeremy Rhoads his philosophy is backwards.
une très grande chanson par un immense chanteur
The Genius
sconvolgente...mauro dessy
I actually heard Peter Frampton say on the radio that he wrote this song during a Humble Pie sound check. The guy just LIES.
2:15 "mattress" = "house rest"
Although I don't think Brother Ray needed a mattress, either.
Ray Charles original song I don't need no doctor is hardly fucking LEGO mate
What does "LEGO" mean? (also, Ray didn't write this song)
I honestly thought Humble Pie wrote this song. I still think their version is superior but man this is awesome too and it's the original!
W.A.S.P brought me here :o
He put me on the critical list, when all I need was her sweet kiss.

The Jimmy Watts Band version of 2016 is a great rendition of this too. Listen on FB here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjiP1I8H7_g

Kick Butt! Great song! thanks--
Humble Pie merely used the lyrics from this song. Otherwise their treatment of it bears no resemblance to this. Ray Charles was a genius whose music could ebb and flow effortlessly from R&B, blues and jazz to country and raw soul. Comparatively, Humble Pie, in "covering" this song, rebuilt the Sistine Chapel with Lego.
Are you saying the Humble Pie version sucks? I really disagree. I think it works incredibly well, especially the 9 minute jam version and I'm sure Ray Charles would have praised Steve Marriot's incredible singing ability and interpretation.
Ray Charles original song I don't need no doctor is hardly fucking LEGO mate.
@Tony Wilson - He was talking about the Humble pie cover.
@Tony Wilson Original is written and performed by Nick Ashford of Ashford & Simpson fame. I can't make up my mind which I prefer.
супер!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG- seriously?! I've only known the Humble Pie/Peter Frampton version! So nice to know the main man Ray Charles is the OG!
Anyone else listen to this on repeat???😁
Excellent !
je n'ai pas besoin de docteur très bon !!!super RAY CHARLES!!!
This song sucks but somehow W.A.S.P. made it sound good.
Great song, though the Humble Pie version rocks a little harder...

Had to finally check the original version now, after being familiar only with the WASP cover for 31 years! :D This certainly grooves very nicely!!! Have to say, that the version of WASP is not as bad as their cover of Burn by Deep Purple...they should have never touched that...
Beth Hart version...too much
won of. his best tunes
what a classic tune!!
Beth Hart too
better wasp cover
and Rob Halford version!!!!!
Flight of the Conchords grabbed this baseline and used it on their song "I Like to Rock the Party".
What do you think about the Packet Of Three's version ?
john mayer sounds better
lol at everyone that got triggered
Have you ever heard the version by W.A.S.P.? It's pretty good, they were the reason I came here to listen to this masterpiece.
Your a god damn fool that don't know great music from white rip offs.
TROLL ALERT
The Sonics just released an incredible version of this song! 50 years after their first album, and still making pure rock & Roll
This is fabulous. But, Humble Pie's version is simply on another planet - though, honestly, The Pie renders the song unrecognisable from this.
They also did a great cover of "Hallelujah I Love Her So" on the same live album. Again, nearly unrecognizable from Charles's version.
Martin Hugh ...This song was written by the great Ashford and Simpson duo!!!! yep.... they wrote Lets go get stoned , Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Someday we'll be together, You're all I need to get by, I'm Every Woman, two hits for Gladys Knight, 4 hits for Diana Ross, wrote for Aretha, ....there's more that I can't think of off the top of my head and not to mention what they wrote tons of hits for themselves which is why is why they're in the writers Hall of Fame!!!!... mind you they were about 23 years old when they were writing earlier hits for Motown.
jo armstead was a co-writer on the song also.
I must admit I prefer Ray Charles' version. But I enjoy listening both :) ! Oranges and apples.
Most people don't know that the first recording of this song was not Ray Charles. His was the 2nd.
Ashford & Simpson recorded it in August 1966. Ray recorded it in October 1966. Due to Ray already having a well-established career, his version got to be known more, so most think he recorded it first. Part of Rays success was due to him recording "Lets Go Get Stoned" a year earlier, which was also written by Nicholas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, and Josephine Armstead. That song got him a number 1 hit, so when he heard the Ashford & Simpson version of this song, he was ready to take a crack at him himself. Armstead co-wrote several songs with Ashford & Simpson for about a year around the 1966 time frame while living in New York. Due to different opportunities being offered to them, Josephine moved to Chicago, but eventually moved back to New York. Her story is pretty special as well.
The Ashford & Simpson version of "I Don't Need No Doctor" is still out there and does get airplay on R&B stations that cover songs from that era. It can also be found on YouTube. Everyone should check it out to see the similarities and differences.
As teri b mentioned, there were a lot of great songs written by Ashford & Simpson, but it is surprising (and a shame) that so many of the great songs they wrote, fans of the same songs often have no idea who Ashford & Simpson were. I have said that given a sheet of paper with a full page of song titles, and asked to mark the ones written by Ashford & Simpson, there would a lot of missed ones. I think the best bet in a case like that would be mark all the songs, and you would probably end up with a passing grade anyway. Every music fan should do some research to learn about this amazing writing duo.
Now, there is a younger generation that many think the song is a John Mayer original. Of course there are a lot of the older generation that also think it is a Humble Pie original. I agree that the Humble Pie version is almost like an entirely different song. I really appreciate each one in its own unique way.
The doctor said I need Rest....ok...lol
The cover of this by the band called .wasp.is amazing
you no it man.
I agree wasp rules
@Carlos Arturo Toro Alzate wasp's cover is amazing
