Chapin, Harry - Star Tripper Lyrics
I have made a little music in some corners of the land
I have fused some crystal images from common grains of sand
And if I haven't reached the heavens, I've surely learned to fly
I've been caught up in the soaring and the touching of the sky
It's a crazy blind man's journey he's been on
The startripper's lost and all alone now
And it's your face he'd like to look upon
Yes, he's praying that you won't be long gone
They put you in a capsule, they send you towards the sun
They carve you into plastic before you orbit's done
And all the scribes and seers they chorus out your name
Though the photographs and headlines change the story stays the same
It's a crazy blind man's journey he's been on
The startripper's lost and all alone now
And it's your face he'd like to look upon
Yes, he's praying that you won't be long gone
I thought that I was soaring like an eagle
I thought that I was roaring like the wind
I thought that I had surely reached the end now
But I can't remember anywhere I've been
Was I looking for a star or something else behind it?
Whatever I was looking for, I surely dod not find it
And for all my sky high journeys the only thing I know
Is that you almost always lose yourself when you let yourself go
So the startripper's coming on back home now
It's a crazy blind man's journey he's been on
The startripper's lost and all alone now
And it's your face he'd like to look upon
Yes, he's praying that you won't be long gone

Chapin, Harry Star Tripper Comments
My daughter bought me this cd many years ago now.
She knew how I loved him so!
She too learned to love him post humously, of course.
Well, now it's been nearly 37 years since her birth and almost four years since she died of suicide.
Coming upon this today I just had to listen, then I remembered her buying me this cd.
It contained songs I'd never heard and I thought I knew them all.
Man, do I miss her.
My only child.
Sometimes I wonder if we felt and feel too deeply.
...beautiful!...
ANOTHER...fantastic work by Harry!!
I Love This Song So Much Its Become My Theme Song
So many brilliant songs! Harry Chapin was truly a master storyteller in his music. We've recently named our new Border Collie puppy "Star Tripper" (his registered kennel name). His pet name will be, "Harry", for obvious reasons!
I know dozens and dozens of HC songs . . . . but didn't know this one . . . another great find . . . he's got to be the greatest singer songwriter that ever was!!!!! Thanks for posting. Love Harrys' songs - they take you everywhere, and back again.
@electronmusicjunkie I also thought maybe it was about someone on drugs and regretted it.
@sickandtiredofthis1 It's funny. I never thought what you posted here ever about this song, but it does makes sense. I felt maybe it's about decision of what people make in life in that they leave others behind and when the dreams don't produce fruit, they then want those people and or life back like it was.
