Celtic Woman - Shenandoah Lyrics

Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you
Away, you rollin' river
Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you
Away, I am bound away
Across the wide Missouri

Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter
Away, you rollin' river
For her I'd cross the stormy waters
Away, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri

Oh Shenandoah, I am bound to leave you
Away, you rollin' river
Oh Shenandoah, I'll not deceive you
Away, I am bound away
Across the wide Missouri

Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you
Away, you rollin' river
Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you
Away, I am bound away
Across the wide Missouri
Across the wide Missouri

  14. S.... G....

How fitting. This song was sung by fur traders in the early 1800's. No one knows who wrote it, but many Scottish and Irish people ended up marrying Native American women and settling in the Americas. The song talks about a European who has fallen in love with Shanandoa, which in some versions of the song is the land itself, and in some versions its the name of the Native Chief, who's daughter he loves. I don't think it would be strange if the original song was referring to both.

  28. v.... ....

CON LA ALTURA A LA QUE TRAE TOMADO EL ARCO NO CREO QUE PUEDA SACARLE ESE SONIDO AL VIOLÍN, ADEMÁS DE QUE PARA ESTAR EN "VIVO" Y AL AIRE LIBRE, EL SONIDO DEL VIOLÍN SUENA MUY PRODUCIDO, VAMOS, SONIDO QUE SÓLO SE LOGRA EN UN ESTUDIO MUSICAL... FINALMENTE LA FORMA EN LA QUE BAILA Y TOCA AL MISMO TIEMPO ES 90% IMPOSIBLE QUE NO SE DESAFINE NI UNA SOLA VEZ... AH SI, ADEMÁS EN ALGUNAS PARTES DE LA MELODÍA, LA POSICIÓN DE SUS DEDOS NO COINCIDEN CON LA ALTURA DE LAS NOTAS QUE SE ESCUCHAN...
    DEFINITIVAMENTE ES PLAYBACK

  29. t.... t....

she is a true fairy she dont just play the music she feels it ,you can see it in her eyes and facial exspression

  30. s.... ....

Pub music. I'll have the corned beef boxty and a Smit-ick, please.

    s.... ....

That's a small minded comment. While traditional Irsh music is played extensively in pubs, it has a far more creative side, equal and superior to other equivalent forms, such as jazz, opera, etc. In addition it is a folk tradition meaning from the people and therefore very dynamic.
The fact that Irish music is played In pubs is attributable to the spirit and he
    generosity of the Irish people.
FYI corned beef boxty does not exist as far as I know.

    s.... ....

I knew it was a matter of time before some Irish person got bent out of shape by my joke. Yes, an Irish pub/restaurant on the west side of Cleveland did have a corned beef boxty on their menu. You could also have it filled with 'bangers', or other meats they had.

    s.... ....

    You can't please everyone.

These women restore my faith in all women. Beautiful, bright, joyous, smiling and capable. I had a wife like that, once. My fault I lost her, but Celtic Woman reinforces my faith that there are others out there. Mairead is miraculous.

  76. G.... J....

Whenever I see Mairead, she always puts me in mind of Goldberry in the Lord of the Rings...

    G.... J....

too bad she and tom were left out of the movies.

  77. L.... v....

I really love the way Máiréad plays her violin. She makes everyone happy!

  78. A.... S....

My friend told me this was a playback. Surely not? Surely it was live??? Please enlighten me.

    A.... S....

Your friend is mistaken. It is very much live.

    A.... S....

Thanks. Just seems out of sync somehow. But if it's live, it's just amazing.

    A.... S....

+Annabel Seargeant Some people claim the girls are syncing their music.  I have been to two live shows and can state positively that they don't do that. These videos are filmed/taped with several cameras.  The footage is then edited into one video and an unbroken soundtrack is overlaid on it. Sometimes the editors don't quit get it synced right which makes it seem they are faking it. One poster on another video stated that at one live show the sound system malfunction but the girls kept on singing. They couldn't have done that if they were faking it.

  79. A.... ....

Look at how weird she's holding her bow! What is the advantage to that?

    A.... ....

Yes I tried it for Irish Jig's and it has it's advantages but I feel like you can master this with a classical hold as well

    A.... ....

I actually use this hold for a number of different musical styles. Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, Fast-paced, Slower and soft, etc. It's just grown on me. It seems that every musician has their own unique style of playing.

    A.... ....

    So what is the disadvantage?

    A.... ....

You have less length towards your frog to bow with.

    A.... ....

    *manages full bowing*

  80. S.... S....

It is unbelievable!!!! sheis  beautiful and wonderful game. Respect!!!!

  81. A.... G....

Wowww!!! Incredible! I would like be there! 2:31 !!!

  82. M.... N....

She RUNS, SPINS, and JUMPS around and still plays beautifully!

  83. s.... ....

Ok, I'm in love. Better yet, I am enthralled. Captivated and spellbound. What am I to say to my gf :(

    "I blame the violin"?

  84. V.... ....

Love that she looks so happy playing violin, she is truly amazing, still amazes me how she can play that well and move like that.

    V.... ....

Lindsey Stirling moves around even more. Hiphop violin.

  85. M.... A....

hermoso, inspirador! un verdadero don! :)

  86. m.... j....

  87. T.... ....

    that nose.

  88. j.... ....

Mairead is one beautiful lady and talented!!

  89. a.... k....

if she would let me, i would gently lift her hair back off her ears to show that she truly is an elfin sprite, possesed of much art and magic. love-a.

  90. x.... ....

It's a matter of opinion, obviously COSMOTOPPER777 prefers Mairead to be slightly stiller while performing. You, may think other wise. Enough said :)

  91. 1.... ....

Performance art?? Sorry, but I'm afraid that you still don't understand Celtic Woman. It is Mairead's nature to move about while performing (not any alleged "bad judgement" by some "director"). She loves moving around while on-stage, as she repeatedly states in interviews. It is what sets her apart from other mere "violinists".

  92. C.... ....

I'm afraid you have a very obtuse sense of performance art. The Celtic Women do a very good job of integrating dance and physical gestures into their music. Ms. Nesbitt's ability to do all that with an instrument ill-suited to dancing while playing, is remarkable. However, in this case, it was overdone, and detracted from the performance of what is essentially a quiet, contemplative and almost hymn-like piece. Not her fault, just bad judgement by her director (who I also admire, BTW).

  93. 1.... ....

And you know it isn't live how? Were you there? I have some doubt you were. I have heard her directly from the stage when she played in front of a live audience (with me only about 15 or 20 feet from her). She even broke a string in the bow while playing one piece and I could also hear her in a huge concert hall in Denver when her violin's mic went out temporarily. She plays LIVE. End of story.

  94. 1.... ....

You couldn't be more wrong! The dancing while playing is the hallmark of Mairead's performances and demonstrates not only her superb violin skills but her dynamic physical ability. She should NEVER stop moving (and I hope she keeps moving for a very very long time, at least long enough for me to see her live once again).

  95. D.... S....

i love this its very interesting and magic i play the violin but no very better than she i like it

  96. C.... ....

It would have been better if they had allowed her to dispense with the 'dancing' during Shenandoah -- it was a distraction from her otherwise superb performance.

  97. J.... S....

    that is American violin
