Celtic Woman - She Moved Thru' The Fair Lyrics

[choir: chant]

My young love said to me, "My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind."
Then she stepped away from me and this she did say:
"It will not be long, love, till our wedding day."
She stepped away from me and she moved thru' the fair
And fondly I watched her move here and move there.
And she made her way homeward with one star awake
As swan in the evening moves over the lake.

[choir: chant]

Last night, She came to me, She came softly in
So softly she came that her feet made no din,
And she laid her hand on me and this she did say:
"It will not be long, love, till our wedding day."

[choir: chant]

    The people were saying
    no two were e´er wed
    But one has a sorrow
    that never was said
And I smiled as she passed
with her goods and her gear
    And that was the last
that I saw of my dear
    I dreamt it last night
That my dead love came in
    So softly she moved
That her feet made no din
Then she came close beside me
    And this she did say
"It will not be long love
    till our wedding day"

    my favourite -meav <3

  5. Y.... W....

Love this song, it's so very pretty..I can listen to it over and over..so pretty!!!

  6. L.... M....

Great percussion and orchestration.  Great back ground singers and a wonderful lead singer.  This version is so polished and perfect that it annoys some people.  Just sit back and appreciate the excellence.

  7. P.... C....

So bloody perfect ........ but we have to wonder how much artistic endeavour actually goes into this kind of manufactured excellence.

    P.... C....

With  the  immensely  gifted  Meav leading the  way, the  rest  flows  automatically.  The  Sweet  Irish Lark  is art  in the  flesh.

  8. M.... ....

    Wow ! *speechless*

  9. P.... ....

What sets her apart is how effortless is seems. Unreal !

    P.... ....

That  is  part  of  Sweet  Lady  Meav's  trademark....   Effortless style  and  flawless technique.

  10. J.... D....

    amazing!!!!!

  11. d.... ....

    beautiful ...

  12. d.... ....

    second version

  13. M.... ....

One of the best versions ever - what a voice!

    M.... ....

Without a doubt, Meav was one of the best vocalists ever to sing as Celtic Woman.

  14. g.... ....

It's been two years since i heard this song, Meav's voice is soo angelic and the choir gives out strange vibrations which gives me shivers. It is such a beautiful song, and powerful at the same time. It is no wonder why i am in tears..

  15. M.... ....

    I do !

  16. B.... F....

I also think it is a little strange that they sing these songs that are obviously meant for male singers. But that doesn't mean they are lesbians. Just mean that these are beautiful songs. They also sing "Blacck is ths Color.

  17. S.... R....

I also left out Deirdre Shannon, who isn't on any of the DVDs. Since my original comment, I've acquired the "A New Journey" DVD, so I'll never forget Hayley again. I've also been lucky enough to see CW live in its current configuration with Susan McFadden replacing Lisa Kelly.

  18. M.... N....

The choral singing is modern re-interpretation of mouth music that composer David Downes came up with - it uses Irish syllables with extra percussive punch - it doesn't mean anything but adds energy to the song.
If you like layered vocal harmonies you might like my new song too - search for Meav - The Calling - hope you like it!

  19. N.... ....

I would call that "Unluck of the Irish" ; P

  20. g.... ....

    Who cares.
    Those voices, angels all.

  21. M.... ....

I guess I get a different impression about the song itself.. My understanding is that the writer of the song had a night "vision - or visitation" . it is like catching a glimpse of ones parents before you were born. I believe it is the future father reassuring the future mother that all systems are go for the marriage to take place. This is happy , positive news- not dark or negative. As for "sexification" - gorgeous Meav can't help but be anything but.. She looks as good as she sounds.

  22. g.... ....

way overdone visually, it cuts into the song, which has always been dark and deservedly so. this is wayyy over sexified

  23. M.... ....

    Irish American, though.

  24. S.... K....

the only one you missed is Hayley.

  25. S.... K....

Ummm. Shenandoah is 100% American. Not Irish

  26. S.... R....

I guess it's worth repeating that Celtic Woman has a policy of never trying to gender-flip a lyric. AFAIK, they're all straight, but they don't hesitate to sing a song written for a man. It can be startling at first, but you get used to it.

  27. B.... F....

The choir thing in the background sounds kinda cool, but it has nothing to do with the real song! They basically just cheesified it to make it more dramatic.

  28. M.... ....

it's a collection of words from other irish songs, so using shenadoah, siul a run and the first one that i cant hear should work :)

  29. c.... ....

I believe it's just sounds that David Downes put together to go with the song. They mean nothing but sounds great....

  30. d.... .....

    She's awesome

  31. g.... ....

can anybody tell me what the chant is that the choir is singing? I love the sound of it but i can't find the words/lyrics anywhere online! =(

  32. D.... e....

    Amazing

  33. L.... M....

I think I should spell that "Downes". Sorry David.

  34. L.... M....

The girls do a really great job with this song and I love them but the conductor/arranger David Downs deserves much of the credit for this master work.

  35. m.... ....

all of them should have stayed

  36. 1.... ....

Is there any way to make the chills go away?

  37. k.... ....

Anne Briggs did the best version of this song (IMO) without need of all the lavish production.

  38. S.... R....

I miss all of them, but if Meav and Orla hadn't left, we never would have heard Alex and Lynn, and if they hadn't left, we wouldn't have hot little Lisa Lambe. David Downes just keeps finding them. I seem to have left out one or two. My DVD collection is still incomplete.

  39. m.... ....

    That's kind of awesome.

  40. S.... ....

There are many versions of this song. Our Wedding Day is one, and I Once Had A True Love. One version is about a girl who promises to marry a soldier before he goes off to war, and she visits him in the night. But then the next day, she's gone, and he goes to war and dies.. quite sad :(

  41. S.... ....

This is still the best sung version I have heard..

  42. m.... ....

Amazing singer. Wish she was still with the band!

  43. J.... D....

lol this is my best friend and I's song...

  44. H.... A....

Mah heart beatin' cause her voice touchin' mah heart so purely

  45. S.... ....

Where can i find the words the backing vocalists chant? They're great!

  46. c.... ....

    @egirleagle :)

  47. e.... ....

@cbrme97 heehee, harry potter quote.... :)

  48. J.... G....

Sweet lord Jesus, this is so beautiful!

  49. c.... ....

@pedro1095 Well he's seventeen but has the emotional range of a teaspoon.

  50. p.... n....

This is one of the most importante music in this side of the world. God bless Irland. From Portugal, Pedro Nunes

  51. M.... ....

The greatest song ever :))) Thanks for this great voice!!!

  52. G.... C....

makes me damn proud to be Irish....

  53. S.... ....

Oh god, this is so beautiful...
I remember singing this in choir in middle school, this brings back memories.
Of course, we didn't sound quite this nice. xD

  54. e.... ....

    Beautiful and haunting.

  55. c.... ....

My brother listened to this then looked at the lyrics and said:she's lesbian?
then I made him go upstairs and I pushed him down the stairs!

  56. R.... ....

Another talent? Walking in that dress!

  57. D.... ....

Everything about this production was beyond marvelous!

  58. S.... P....

I love this song so much!

  59. S.... V....

a little more diction would be better.... but that high and that diction makes it complicated.... beautifully done maev!

  60. 1.... ....

  66. k.... ....

  67. k.... ....

I think Méav is my favorite of the Celtic Woman. <3her

  68. B.... ....

I wanna listen to this with a very special person in my life,...

  69. B.... ....

@LuthienofOssiriand I am not irish, but happy st. patricks day to you too!

  70. L.... ....

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Ireland lovers ;)

  71. M.... S....

I prefer the Hayley Westenra version. It's slower and a lot more emotional. And Hayley Westenra doesn't usually express much emotion in her music. I'm not saying she's not awesome though. 'Cause she totally is.

  72. J.... L....

Mágnifica interpretación en directo de Hayley de la canción celta "She moved through the fair" con un fantástico coro detrás.

  73. P.... ....

Just a FANTASTIC SONG...thanx for uploading it!!!!!

  74. U.... ....

Orlas version blows this version away. This is no where near as haunting.

  75. M.... J....

Why does the BEST talent come from over the pond? Here in America they have "things" like Lady Gaga screeching out songs. I need to go back to the UK where my family has deep roots.

  76. J.... M....

What an amazing voice and moves so gracefully through the stage. Just wonderful.

  77. R.... G....

Shouldn't a man be singing this song? After all, the song is coming from the man's point of view...

  78. G.... P....

Simply beautiful..such an amazing voice such an amazing group of artists

  79. C.... ....

    :O
oh my goodness! this is so amazing! and beautiful! and WOW! I can't describe how great this song is!

  95. E.... M....

@browneyedgirls102 They lef to spend time with family.

  96. C.... B....

What a wonderful voice that méav's... As everyone says, it's angelic... I wish I saw her in celtic woman's concert... argh...
But does someone know what exactly the choir is singing behind??? I really need it so if someone could answer, i would really be grateful for him (her)....

  97. F.... ....

If anybody want the lyrics, here they are:
My young love said to me
    My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you
    For your lack of kind.

And she stepped away from me
    And this she did say
"Oh, it will not be long love
    'Til our wedding day".

    She stepped away from me
And she moved through the fair
    And fondly I watched her
    Move here and move there.

  98. F.... ....

And she made her way onward
    With one star awake
As the swan in the evening
    Moves over the lake.

Last night she came to me
    She came softly in
    So softly she came
    Her feet made no din.

And she laid her hand on me
    And this she did say
"It will not be long love
    'Til our wedding day".

  99. C.... ....

This is absolutely gorgeous music. I just happened to bump into this singing group thanks the a music video of HTTYD. This really gives me inspiration for a story I am writing. Someone should use this as movie music.

  100. p.... ....
