Cassidy, Eva - Tall Trees In Georgia Lyrics

Tall trees in Georgia,
They grow so high
They shade me so
And sadly walking
Through the thicket I go

The sweetest love I ever had
I left aside
Because I did not want
To be any mans bride
But now I'm older
And married I would be
I found my sweetheart
But he would not marry me

When I was younger
The boys all came around
But now I'm older
And they've all settled down
Control your mind my girl
And give your heart to one
For if you love all men
You'll be surely left with none

Tall trees in Georgia,
They grow so high
They shade me so
And sadly walking
Through the thicket I go

That is one of the most beautiful songs my ears have ever heard ... been listening since 1997. Eva, you were amazing, still are, always will be.

    I’m in love with her

  10. d.... ....

I wish more women today would take heed of the line at 2:45 to 3:12

  11. N.... C....

Sweet Eva. If there is a Heaven, you certainly inhabit that place. Thank you for the art you shared while you were counted amongst the living. Your music lives on.

  12. C.... S....

    Where did such talent go?

  13. F.... M....

Nice to hear some cover the Buffy Sainte-Marie song. Buffy had a nice voice too, and it’s a neat comparison, because Cassidy uses the exact same guitar technique as the original. So it’s just a comparison of voices and inflections.

  14. N.... K....

I have just had few bad days this week, all of a sudden I feel much better this voice is angelic

  15. N.... M....

listened to this again Eva. You are a Real Superstar shining bright in that sky tonight. ❤ i never heard of you till yesterday and i never knew this song till you sang it.

  16. N.... M....

    amazing talent ❤

  17. P.... A....

having heard so many comments that she was only about "Somewhere over the |Rainbow" I am on a mission to get people to see the whole video of the live session at the blues alley as I think it is the most faultless performance I have ever see - we lost someone very special in that year

  18. J.... K....

I will never forget first hearing Eva's music in 2002 in Camden, Maine. Literally stopped my wife and I in our tracks. We HAD to find out who she was and get her CD. Was devastated to find out she had died a few years earlier and that we would never be able to see her in concert. Tall Trees is one of the most soulful songs I have ever heard. Haunting and filled with a longing of regret. Eva, though we never met you, we miss you greatly. Thank you for sharing your amazing gift. Your voice lives on and we are better for it.

  19. K.... S....

  24. R.... P....

Just think this is a LIVE performance - flawless! I regret I never went to see her perform when I was living in Maryland, my home state. Used to listen to DC blues station, WPFW, announce her upcoming shows. Missed out, but at least I have all her music to listen to now. I never tire of her voice.

  25. l.... ....

  37. S.... D....

Please play this at my funeral. For I am dying and this is my story; I will die alone.

  38. R.... H....

    Why God???WHY!!!!????

  39. P.... A....

I'd never even heard of this song before now. And what struck me as most notable was her guitar technique. She wasn't (isn't) just a perfect voice. She's really an exceptional guitarist.

    P.... A....

Buffy Ste Marie wrote the original song.

  40. K.... M....

Words can not describe Eva`s voice <3

  41. s.... ....

I get the sense that she is actually teleporting herself amongst the tall trees in Georgia while singing this song. It is what makes her so magical.

  42. W.... G....

I just found her. She was cheated. I shall not be. I literally just stumbled upon this angel. I was listening to Joni.

  43. .... ....

Her voice is touching my soul

  44. M.... U....

i heard her rendition of cheek to cheek when i was a child and it was the first time i realized i could like that kind of music. i thought she was some kind of super famous jazz club singer or smtg.
now i'm here and my heart is basically broken.

  45. C.... B....

    Gosh, her tone is EXQUISITE.

  46. M.... P....

her voice was beautiful even when she was just speaking before the song started

  47. N.... S....

    Her voice is unreal.

  48. M.... Z....

She doesn't sing with voice but soul

  49. M.... Z....

    An unpretentious artist. Love you.

  50. N.... B....

She really was bloody fantastic. I bought all her albums. I love playing them in my car. Makes very long journeys a lot shorter.

  51. M.... R....

She makes me believe in God

  52. R.... R....

Would have been amazing to be there!

  53. C.... G....

This song sends shivers down my spine. So special and so, so true.

  54. W.... M....

    Absolutely stunning!

  55. A.... F....

Rocky Gerung recommended this in his tweet

  56. L.... F....

Amazing..! Music has no frontiers...love her interpretations..

  57. E.... H....

    Damn............just damn. (soooooooo beautiful)

  58. D.... C....

Tall Trees in Georgia, the most beautiful song I've ever heard. She sang it so beautifully. Such voice control.

  59. J.... ....

Strange how you can hear her clear her throat before she starts in this... but on Blues Alley and Nightbird it isn't there! This is raw audio too. Not just raw video. I am so thankful for this stuff. She was one of a kind.

  60. 2.... ....

Tall trees in Georgia they grow so high they shade me so
And sadly walking through the thicket I go
The sweetest love I ever had I left aside
Because I did not want to be any man's bride
But now I'm older and married I would be
I found my sweetheart but he would not marry me
When I was younger the boys all came around
But now I'm older and they've all settled down
Control your mind my girl and give your heart to one
For if you love all men you'll be surely left with none
Tall trees in Georgia they grow so high they shade me so
And sadly walking through the thicket I go

  62. J.... M....

How can you not love her?

  63. b.... ....

    lovely..... 100-100

  64. L.... E....

I would love to have heard Eva do a version of Going Back by Goffin and King , a song covered by so many artists including Dusty Springfield and the Byrd's .It would have been perfect for her voice with her own stamp on it .

  65. b.... ....

    ¡Fantastic theme!
    Thanks, Eva.

  72. S.... D....

Does anyone know what chords she is using? Online chord sites says she starts with a D, but obviously in the beginning, you can see her fingers are in the shape of G.

    S.... D....

Just listened to this song for the first time. The Capo on the 7th fret transposes the G fingering to the key of D. She does this to achieve a different sound for D that you don't get without the capo. Capo on the 5th fret would be the key of C, on the 9th fret key of E, and so on.

  73. C.... G....

💟💜💟💟💟💟💟💜 t new singer like Norah jones etc copied to this magic great artist...so unique!!! T rest are just good copies. Eva is t original!!!!

  74. P.... ....

A Goddess among mere mortals. What a beautiful gift she brought to the world.

  75. s.... f....

Flawless. Chills. Thank you for posting this and RIP dear Eva.

  76. T.... O....

    Just beautiful!

  77. m.... ....

Eva was a sort of genius who died young. She didn't deserve to die young; she hadn't even reached the peak of what she could do. I will always love her.

    m.... ....

mingulay29 you are so right. Imagine how seasoned she'd be now. She had a gift and she knew how to make grown men cry. I'm proof of that lol

  78. E.... R....

A beautiful rendition and poignantly autobiographical in the line "... because I did not want to be any man's bride ..."

  79. S.... G....

It is such a find when to hear a song we have never heard before and find it mesmerizing - that plus her voice. I often just stop working and lean back and just take her in - often getting a little teary.

  80. d.... ....

what can I say. absolutely amazing.

  81. o.... ....

    just incredible!!!

  82. R.... S....

happily swap years, to gain seconds in the presence of this beautiful soul. She was the one, and she didn't even know.

    R.... S....

    Such beautiful words you wrote

    R.... S....

Your comment brought tears to my eyes

    R.... S....

But you knew and you've shared it with us. God bless you.

  84. R.... V....

Awesome how she can enter and blend herself into the theme of the song becoming the heroine or the soul of the songs.

  85. L.... L....

I listen to you over and over...Rip pretty lady...

  86. B.... E....

It's very sad that she is not here to fully understand what impact she has had.

  87. T.... ....

I am glad that there are so many others who feel the same about this singer. It seems with time she only gets more popular (thanks to things like Youtube). I first heard Eva Cassidy's Songbird CD well over a decade ago and by luck I was alone and I was sitting down. Even then I nearly fell from the chair to the floor. I could not believe my ears. Every song was a storm of emotion, and every kind of bittersweetness flooded my living room. My core was washed away. No single singer has cut me open so thoroughly before, or since (save when I hear her over again). I love many different types of singers, mostly female, but this one, this lady was (and is) at the highest level of soulfulness and execution (execution meaning her performance rendered, and maybe her ability to kill with it the nonchalantness in any half-hearted listeners). I rarely get the same feeling listening to today's great sellers of song -- oh, maybe for a moment here and there, a song now and again.. I keep listening and I can always find something I like if I search. But with Eva the searching ends, there is nothing better beyond. Eva's voice is another level, another kind of never-before experienced instrument, one that somehow creates less distance between the willing listeners' hearts (and less distance from the single listeners mind and heart), and thusly our eyes are either opened for seemingly the first time, or closed in a blissful way, and we are left collectively floating hopelessly and happily in her melody and soulfulness. I was crestfallen after listening to her for the first time to learn that she had died in the nineties. She was born with the most perfect voice I've ever heard, and I'm not too young-- (well in my heart I am).

    T.... ....

Yes, Clarence, she has that amazing effect on a lot of people long after her death -- from her small but incredible body of work. She stops people in their tracks. I am not a musician but can easily understand when musicians continually give her great respect. She was in a sense untouched and never needed to alter her artistry to fit any fame seeking path. There is great pureness in that and I believe it can be heard in her voice and felt between her notes. Cheers to you.

    T.... ....

    Well said Tom!

    T.... ....

    She knows you love her!

    T.... ....

    Amen, Tom Very well stated.

    T.... ....

  90. L.... ....

  91. M.... V....

The most sincere and beautiful voice ever. Will love Eva forever.

  92. R.... S....

The Greatest. End of: There may be better singers, but no one invokes emotion, rattles hearts, evokes tears from (amusingly) fellas and grown men and generally blows the fucking doors off. Stunning xx

  93. S.... ....

    WOWWWWWWWWWW

  94. G.... G....

great cover of Buffy sainte-marie song

  95. G.... W....

I remember walking in Georgetown alone, in 98, I didn't know of her then, but it haunts me now.  Her voice echoes down those streets.

    G.... W....

    there's a song in that

  96. S.... ....

I have always felt that some things in this world are such a blessing from God and are so beautiful, they can only occupy the earthly realm for a short time...I have always thought of her as an angel. I'm just glad we have these recordings to keep her memory alive and share with others.
