Cash, Johnny - Orleans Parish Prison Lyrics

Well, have you seen my darkhaired girl?
She was set on her love to a hungry world
They got her clothes anA the money she took
And they wrote her name in the prison books

Orleans Parish Prison won't you free my darkhaired girl?
She's tired and cold and you got the gold
She took from a hungry world
Orleans Parish Prison won't you free my darkhaired girl?

Well have seen my green eyed son?
He shot a man down with a sawed off gun
And they fond him down by the Pontchartrain
Where they cuffed his arms with a big iron chain

Orleans Parish Prison won't you free me green eyed son?
I heard him say as you let him away
Sorry for what he's done
Orleans Parish Prison won't you free me green eyed son?

Well have you missed my brother man?
He took a little money with a gun in his hand
Know the kids are hungry and the wife ain't well
And the daddy's locked up in a prison cell

Orleans Parish Prison won't you free my brother man?
I know it's sad but he ain't bad
He's doing the best he can
Orleans Parish Prison won't you free my brother man?

I listened to the cd cash murder and low n behold I became I devout jcash fan "not just a fan but much deeper I gained a love of this style of music "not one comes across like cash ,his way of delivering the notes is beyond any style from back then until now in 2019 "no too one could ever duplicate cash"s delivery and his way of letting you in on the piece of so much you gotta take heed ,bottom line the man's a master of his craft

This version (the better of the two IMHO) came out on the LP. But the other version came out on the CD. I was disappointed that this version wasn't on the CD.

This version is on the Johnny Cash "Love God Murder" CD set. It's on the Murder CD.

  14. 6.... ....

Well actually Johnny Cash HATED prisons, but he did have compassion on some of the prisoners.

THANKS for posting this - love the song and especially this version!

  15. w.... ....

Not even really sure why but this is probably my favorite Cash song, and that's no easy feat. Agreed that this is the best version. Thanks for posting this.

  16. e.... ....

    Mr. Cash is country music.

  17. j.... ....

This is definitely the best version. Thanks for posting.

    @genemullett

Yes, that's the one, it's suprisingly hard to find on here, but sounds much nicer than the other version, both in vocals and backing sound as you mentioned:).

  19. G.... M....

Is this the version from the "Love, God, & Murder" box? It's so much better with the fiddles than it is the the extra guitar. This song has really become one of his underappreciated treasures.

    G.... M....

Gene Mullett yessir it's the same one.
