Carter Family, The - When I'm Gone Lyrics

You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my walk
You're gonna miss me by my talk
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my prayers
You're gonna miss me everywhere
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my song
You're gonna miss me all day long
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone

You're gonna miss me by my ways
You're gonna miss me everyday
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss me by my song
You're gonna miss me all day long
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone

When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
When I'm gone (When I'm gone)
Oh, I know you will miss me when I'm gone

  2. T.... C....

A lost time. Real life music.

  3. J.... P....

The greatness of the Carters lies in their establishing a standard of musical excellence that serves as a role model for all singers and songwriters who've followed in their path. They were truly wonderful and outstanding people and musicians.

  4. F.... K....

    The Elite of the Best.

  5. J.... c....

    Touch by an angel ❤️

  6. S.... B....

When I heard my mother sing it when I was a kid it was more of divorce song because they way the woman was being treated by her husband.
She would sing it "will you miss me when I'm gone, When I have left you, because of your foolish pride with some one else."
It was some what like that. She would make her up her own words.😊😊 .

  7. S.... B....

I remember it being different than this. I heard it sung different this. 😊

  8. T.... E....

I absolutely love this song. Here in Germany it is hardly known, but nevertheless I insisted to put it on our setlist. This is my more modern (but still classic country) version I recorded with country artist Sammy West https://youtu.be/bGjRqAv5H0M

  9. d.... ....

This isn't my kind of music but I understand it and I like it. Does anyone get what I mean ?

  10. B.... M....

I never considered this as "country" music, but, rather true quality mountain folk music.

  11. S.... G....

What was A.P. Carter's relation to Maybelle?

    S.... G....

Brother-in-law. Maybelle married A.P.'s younger brother, Ezra Carter.

  12. w.... r....

    I    miss you

  13. 1.... m....

did this posers just rip off chorus from that cup song. Wow, Pitch Perfect should sue them.

    1.... m....

@Kevin Ceniceros because im precious. You don't insult precious thing. Look, this useless and nonesense conversation has been going on for days now. How much longer you want to bother me before you finally satisfy your inner need for aggression.

    1.... m....

@120 mg, since I know that this conversation is probably bugging others because they get notified whenever you or I reply, I will be the bigger man and end this here. PS, keep telling yourself you are precious; maybe someone will believe you someday...

    1.... m....

@Kevin Ceniceros please, you're not the bigger man here. You're the first one to interrupt my sweet sleep and you're also the one that keep replying with bigger poop. You only stop because i mentioned it in previous comment. You never care about others. This thread now turned into 25 replies because of you which might be a turned off for others to read.. how sad.

PS: I'm precious. My mom and dad said so.

    1.... m....

@120 mg, why do people over the internet always assume they know other people? Wish I knew the answer to that. Pretty sure I do care about other people. lol, I bet your parents said you are "precious". Lol. Whenever they say that it usually means you are stupid or a loser. Communicating to you is like doing so to a wall. See ya.

    1.... m....

@Kevin Ceniceros SIKE! Told ya. I only provoke a little and you already commenting again. Show how much of a dummy you actually is. What happened to the 'bigger person' before.

Because you are such a dummy let me give you a sneak peak of my super duper trick. I'm not only precious but I'm also smart (at least smarter than you). I can also poop in squatting position btw. You are the only people who is being serious in this thread and not in with the joke. So the conclusion is 'you're the JOKE'. Oh the irony.

What you gonna do. Commenting again or become the biGGer pErsOn. Ya dum dum. Poo poo dummy.

  14. S.... M....

Actually, THIS IS the inspiration for "Cups". But Cups is not a song from Anna "shitty" Kendrick... Cups has been written by "Lulu and The Lampshades".

    S.... M....

Not the inspiration for "Cups". That would be another Carter Family song with a confusingly similar title, "When I'm Gone." Check it out, it's also on Youtube.

    S.... M....

    @Sean Coxen guys

  15. C.... C....

    Beautiful...makes me cry every time.

  16. R.... M....

Never heard Maybelle use the flatpick before. Wonder who played on this recording?

    R.... M....

Maybelle occasionally used a flatpick, most notably on "My Dixie Darling".

  17. C.... C....

I wish this style of singing was more popular. It's beautiful.

  18. E.... H....

    Sounds like Sarah, singing lead.

    E.... H....

    Correct. It is Sara.

    E.... H....

    Thank you.

  19. P.... ....

    When people were still people.

    P.... ....

what the hell does this mean

    P.... ....

@Virgil Fry it means they got infested with liberalism

  20. S.... ....

For the people who are confused, there are two songs by the Carter Family with similar names: "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone" and "When I'm Gone". The song "When I'm Gone" was the inspiration for Ana Kendrick's Cup Song, not this song.

    S.... ....

    Thanks for understanding.

  21. a.... d....

    god i,m crying again

  22. i.... ....

When death shall close these eye lids
And this heart shall cease to beat
And they lay me down to rest
    In some flowery bound retreat

    [Chorus]
    Will you miss me?
    (Miss me when I'm gone)
    Will you miss me?
    (Miss me when I'm gone)
    Will you miss me?
    (Miss me when I'm gone)
Will you miss me when I'm gone?

    [Verse 2]
    Perhaps you'll plant a flower
    On my poor unworthy grave
Come and sit along beside me
When the roses nod and wave

    [Chorus]

    [Verse 3]
One sweet thought my soul shall cherish
When this fleeting life has flown
This sweet thought will cheer when dying
Will you miss me when I'm gone?
When these lips shall never more
Press a kiss upon thy brow
But lie cold and still in death
Will you love me then as now?

  23. R.... B....

Oh My! This music stirs my soul; from back in those days when America still had roots. Today, we are a rootless tumbleweed hurled about by aberrant winds.

  24. g.... ....

That is just lovely, true country music which was really folk art and not the kitschy bling that came later. It just goes to show how money screws everything up. This music was born of hard people living hard lives.

  25. N.... M....

I was born in the wrong generation 😢 this song made me cry because it's so beautiful I'm proud of my Irish Appalachian roots

    N.... M....

    Wrong generation kek

  26. S.... R....

I love the Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin version of this too. It honors the original while expanding the sound of it. I don't think there's a youtube clip for it, but you can hear a sample on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Will-You-Miss-Me/dp/B0010V19LW

    S.... R....

    It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

  27. B.... R....

Ralph Stanley sang this song with Clinch Mt Boys in 1977. You can hear it here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jylb5NznEs

  28. A.... S....

this song is God damn nice.

  29. P.... H....

I will miss all of you and good luck

    P.... H....

    God be with you, Pam.

  30. J.... Z....

real people. singing a real song. about a real thing that happens to one and every person . excellent, tho my eye balls 'sweated' just a tetch. but then again, reality affects me in such a way. invariably. jsut the way that is. 'nuff said, maybe.

  31. D.... ....

pitch perfect totally ripped this :(

    D.... ....

It's an other song from carter family, not this one.

  32. O.... C....

I like these old audio songs I have no idea why

    O.... C....

    The sound, the passion.

    O.... C....

Less post production means you get more of the "actual" thing

    O.... C....

If you really enjoy it, invest in a gramophone and get some gramophone records. Or find someone or some place that has them. It's a different experience listening to music through a gramophone that's truly analog

    O.... C....

@darklord220 Can I get it in Kenya?

  33. J.... d....

    so pure

  34. A.... ....

    Best country group ever

  35. S.... T....

wow somebody pressed that snooze button

  36. L.... S....

Woodie guthrie also done this, also called will you miss me

    L.... S....

Loucas Stephens error it's named when I'm gone

  37. C.... G....

    Beautiful!

  38. F.... ....

God that was real country music!!! 👌👍

    F.... ....

Yep. I dont care for much of the newer stuff. Most of the newer musicians seem so fake. And I'm a young person btw.

    F.... ....

The PinCushionMan Yeah, modern country music is massively urbanized. This is real country music, modern country music is pretty much actually pop music.

  39. D.... ....

A great song that brings back memories of true country music"

  40. D.... B....

I neva get tired of listening to these beautiful and talented people of yesteryear

  41. R.... P....

If only they had had more beautiful voices the whole country scene today would be more widely respected than it is by mainstream America.

    R.... P....

Their voices were more beautiful than the recordings of the day could capture. Technology was quite simple back then. If they recorded today, they'd sound somewhat different.

    R.... P....

I think the big problem I have with modern country is on the production side of things. It's the natural way of things to use all available technology "to your advantage" unfortunately that includes pitch correcting etc. The drawback of that is that it sucks out the flavor of country music. I hear a country singer on an album and I can't taste anything (except a metallic mess)! Country music played live or in an intimate setting is a COMPLETELY different ball game. Look at Travis Meadows We all want what we ain't Got for a perfect example of how to do it, look at Jake Owen's cover of that song to see how NOT to do it.
I can tell Owen can sing, and well at that, but the production techniques used (and that they have to use to stay commercially viable) have destroyed the song.

    R.... P....

I think comment from Roger Propes means the country scene today would be more respected if it had had more voices that were beautiful. At least I hope so!

    R.... P....

I think that's why it works though. Something about it goes straight through you though.

    R.... P....

Screw what mainstream thinks. And the heck with all these computer enhanced vocals. I like my music all natural, just like this. This is naturally perfectly beautiful.

  42. F.... V....

la vraie Amerique telle qu'on l'aime....

    F.... V....

    tu parles francais ouf

  43. 2.... ....

In a winding sheet of daisies this frail body you'll enfold.

  44. R.... W....

    This is country!
