there is no one like Aretha Franklin and she is one of the greats , but I find my inspiration and my love goes to the true musicians and artists who create these songs, no they are will never be Beyonce or Aretha or whoever else but they are the reason that these entertainers are where they are and I think they deserve all the credit in the world.

I think it's interesting how quick people are to diminish Aretha's definitive performance of this song (which was written *for her* by Carole, Jerry, and Gerry) while we, in general, ignore the fact that white artists had been straight-up stealing music from black artists long before this purposeful collaboration.

No one ever "stole" anything simply by singing a song. Ever, ever.

God this woman was channeling some serious life emotions she was beyond a doubt tapped into the universal consciousness as were so many of the writers of that era. When they are asked where the inspiration for their songs most don’t know they say it just popped in their head... I really wish today’s musicians would have those moments of clarity.... the times are different now we’ve lost that feeling of love as our core emotion....I’m afraid if humanity as a whole never regains that feeling of love for our world or for our neighbors or ultimately for our selves.... certainly it will ensure a rapid end of our time on the top of food chain....there’s still hope

I wore this album out listening to it in my 20's I loved it!

I've listened to both versions (King and Franklin) and while in know King wrote it, it sounds like a cover version. Lifeless and plain. Aretha put power and punch into the sound.

Differnt singing styles. It is Carole King's song after all.

Even though Aretha Franklin recorded her version first, this is Carole King's song (every song on Tapestry was co-written by her, although several had already been hits for others).

How could Aretha record something before the person who wrote it did?
