Did anybody know this song is actually a cover version of an R&B folk song done a few years earlier in 1974 by a Jackie DeShannon?.
So if the claim was Bette Davis liked Kim Carnes "version", yes because that's what it was, then it is very likely that she never heard the original version or even knew who Jackie DeShannon was which I find very hard to believe as I'm sure most songs that include names of certain famous individuals have to be approved by the Record Company before it can be released as you are basically using a trademark, but also just so there's nothing slanderous about them in the lyrics and I'm pretty sure if the song goes mainstream the famous individual of whom the song is based on will definitely be contacted to let them know there's a song from an artist using their name or trademark, that's normally how it would work in the music industry.
So I'm pretty sure Bette Davis must've complimented Carnes and DeShannon for both versions of the song even though Carnes version was more popular, which means she might have sent letters to both Record Companies.

When I first heard this track I actually thought she was singing "she's got better days aside", that's exactly what it sounded like to me, I just only found out a few days ago "this month" in 2020 that it was actually "Bette Davis eyes", so I spent over 3 decades trying to look for a song which I had the wrong title of to start with.

Don't kill yourself over it... I just found out that it wasn't Rod Steward that sung this!!! I literally found out tonight from a coworker... Am I in the Matrix????

Somehow, Olivia Newton John's "Physical" which came out a few months after this, became "Song of the Decade", rising to #1 in the US for 10 weeks to this song's 9 weeks. Maybe the "Physical" video put Olivia over the top, because this video swallows. Bette Davis Eyes is clearly a superior song. The best song of the 1980's

both this song and I Love You Always Forever stuck with me for a looooong time when I was very young in the mid 90s listening to the car radio with my parents just because of how I guess “nurturing” the voices in both of those songs sounded to me back then. I of course had a very shoddy memory of my very early days, but the fact that even now in 2019 at 27 this song still transports me to being a small child in the 90s really says something about its quality and longevity.

My kind of nostalgia. Something definitely congealed in the '80s.
