Carlisle, Belinda - I Plead Insanity Lyrics

I can't be responsible
For anything I do now or say now
I get too excitable
To control the way I behave now
I'm afraid of what I'll do
If I find myself alone with you
It's just a crime of passion baby
Don't hold it against me
I'm innocent
I'm just out of my mind

I plead insanity
Whoa, I'm so mad about you
I can't think straight, I can't see straight
I plead insanity
All I do is obsess about you
I can't work days
I can't sleep nights

I plead insanity
I know that there are rules for this
And I plan to break every one of them
And if I go too far tonight
Baby you can be my alibi
And if I act irrational
I'm not responsible
For anything that happens here
Don't hold it against me
I'm innocent
I'm just out of my mind
I plead insanity
All I do is obsess about you
I can't work days
I can's sleep nights
I plead insanity

I plead insanity
Whoa, I'm so mad about you
I can't think straight, I can't see straight
I plead insanity
All I do is obsess about you
I can't work days
I can't sleep nights
I have a fantasy...

  3. s.... S....

OH MY... the chorus is just mesmerizing in away that gives me EXTREME inspirations ... just WOW

  4. F.... G....

It's a pity she felt very sick while making this video (she was pregnant). It's an incredible song that she will never sing live because it brings her bad memories...

  5. R.... W....

Damn, great song!!! Wow, imagine that, romantic, a woman singing a man's praises. Wow, what a concept. Belinda deserves a medal for still being one of the only female singers left who sings about being in love with a guy. Good for her, so sad a reflection on music today.

  6. L.... K....

Oh darling vaper nerd hope u r okay and happy how's dear bola.have a good day and hope u habe nice time with ur friend at London this.afternoon and with ur.mum and dad on weekemd!!and hopefully see u next week soemtime darling lady who I adore!!!

  8. K.... L....

Excellent song...one of my favourites by her and i love most of her songs...but this video gives me a headache!

  9. A.... P....

    The best song all times

  10. M.... ....

I have always loved this song and video, it's a bit more edgy and that makes me like it even more.

  11. A.... P....

I plead insanity ..number 1 of the best belinda songs

  12. M.... L....

now this is a natural classic beauty not those plastic shit bitches today

  13. L.... M....

The first single charted well in the UK and Australia.

  14. M.... M....

Another great Rick Nowels production and The legendary master guitarist Michael Landau is all over this album - this album is superb ! Great musicians , great arrangements and production and Belinda has such a lovely voice 😎🎸

  15. R.... V....

Fans seem to love this album. Even Belinda isn't crazy about it. But, she was going through a pregnancy at the time and was sick during the recording of the album. But, Belinda does like a lot of the songs from this album.

  16. .... ....

Is that Tom Welling in this video?

  17. S.... E....

i loved this song.. good vid... just needs slowign down in parts very good.

  18. S.... E....

    I love Belinda.

  19. R.... R....

This really should have been the track that made an amazing album as big as the ones that came before it. Rocky belinda rocks!!! xx

  20. J.... K....

Brilliant song from a brilliant album. Sung by a brilliant woman.

  21. A.... A....

I love the brilliance of the part of this song (music-wise and lyrically speaking!) from 0:49-0:58, and then part of those lyrics repeated again from 1:52-1:58...perfect 'build up' before the chorus kicks in!

  22. i.... g....

Has a good beat to it too ... there would have been some fantastic Remixes

    i.... g....

A couple of remixes were done when this was scheduled to be released as a single; they appear on the expanded 2013 CD/DVD release of 'Live Your Life Be Free.' They're not bad, but they don't compare to the original!

  23. D.... C....

I take no blame or shame.....He drove me to it.

  24. D.... F....

What a tune, what a woman, what a song writing team, what a video. The 80's gave us some truly amazing artists and music, and Belinda and everyone involved with her was part of the cream of that cream filled era.

    D.... F....

Uh this video was from the early 90's.

  25. S.... M....

never understood why this wasn't released right after live your life be free. could had become a big hit!

  26. i.... ....

this is like the Britney Spears of the 80's.

    i.... ....

Nah, Belinda Carlisle's far superior to Britney Spears. This is when music was all about music and not the sort of garbage of the modern era.

  27. P.... ....

This is just awesome, and the fact it's not that widely appreciated is a crime. On the same note though, It's a bit cool to have such a gem as a fans-only favorite :) As years go by I just love this song more and more (And I loved it from the very first time I heard it).

  28. K.... D....

Guys you're forgetting what happened. IT IS asingle, here's the vid. Virgin then got stupidly cold feet thinking it a bit too "aggressive and surly" so they stayed with the more romantic stuff as singles. But it IS one. This is what we HAVE to do for decent people-when something has copies pressed and a vid shot, treat it as the single it should/would have been were it not for stupid label interference. It's on her greatest hits to make a point, and was edited down for single release too, and it'll say a bit about it on the "LYLBF" album reissue-well probably not WHY it was withdrawn but that it was. It wouldn't have hit heights or anything, but it would have probably made the Top 40. After all if 'Runaway Horses' as a single (what?!) can do it, most anything can.

We noticed this nonsense with her first internationally big album. Bizarrely, apart from 'Heaven' and 'Circle' the best things on it were left ON the album-'Should I Let You In', 'I Feel Free' and 'Fool For Love' while all the sloppy sappy non-scary vocal songs (including the risible 'Love Never Dies) became singles! Even on her classic "Runaway Horses" album, the title track and 'La Luna' should not have been considered over the last 4 on Side 2. 2LYLBF" album has enough cute and strong stuff left on it-'Emotional Highway' and 'World Of Love's' so catchy it transcends the soppy lyrics. And 'You're Nothing Without Me' even tops 'I Plead Insanity'-which is very nice itself. And then there's hot model/actor Patrick Muldoon in the vid, another crime it wasn't put out everywhere. But the comment about her singing it is weird. She sounds irrational and off her head-which is PERFECT for what she's singing about. 'I Get Weak' is NOT obsessive-just a bit weak-typcial Diane Warren! But 'I Plead' is strength, abnormality and pow! Incidentally, though the US All Media Guide is NOT usually worth referring to for decent artists regarding their naff reviews, but for this album, 'I Plead Insanity' is one of the songs singled out for strength and a damn good listen. It probably would have made No.38, No.42, No.44 eventually-and THAT is yet another Top 50 hit for a girl from the US totally ripping the hell out of Pretenders, Lauper, Alison Moyet, Prefab Sprout, Aztec Camera, Pat Benatar etc. single wise as these name don't always makew the Top 50, and have also had songs miss the Top 75 in the 80s and after. Even Kate Bush did once and only got 2 singles off her 2nd album as nothing else screamed single!

  29. A.... D....

Why this song doesn't have a million views??? God, this song is amazing.

    A.... D....

+Juan Dominguez The smae reason nothing decent gets a million views. Cos everyone's too busy giving it Slagdonna the vile and all the shit of today!

    A.... D....

+Kyach Distent i hate how they let Madonna release songs do videos like "express yourself", "papa don't preach", "like a prayer" and "erotica", BUT NOO, if is Belinda Carlisle that does it, is totally scandalous and polemic, this just shows the double morals of the label and the music industry, and i think "Runaway Horses" is an amazing song but with a more than horrible video.

  30. p.... ....

Forget I am Woman! This is the real anthem of the female of the species! J/K.

  31. p.... e....

Ah, loved this when it came out and a fantastic reminder
Great album too, full of cool stuff and should have sold by the bucket load.
Just hot the recent remaster and it's still as good as it ever was
    Very cool
    ❤️

  32. d.... d....

from her 1991 underrated live your life be free album

    d.... d....

The second Belinda album I ever purchased a copy of.

  33. L.... ....

Great song.  This whole album was criminally underrated IMO.  So many great tracks on it. No idea why it wasn't more popular after the success of Runaway Horses.

    L.... ....

I agree as well ... I owned this on cassette and I wore it out.  A great album from Belinda.

    L.... ....

+Luuuc Be fair. It made the Top 10 instantly, and outsold stupid Minogue's 1991 piece of rubbish. It was a Gold Record in the UK, and got there without anything from the album making the Top 10. I don't even know how the international first (but in reality second) album got to sell beyond annoucing she was really here-apart from 'Circle' and 'Heaven', no other singles released from it were worthwhile-the better stuff stayed on the album, which wasn't all that compared with the following four. "Real" is her most underrated album, and look what happened to the releases from that. The third was not even put out ('Too Much Water') though it had an edit (but it removed a lot of the beauty of the album one, unlike this edit which is musically the same and vocally, just shorter) and it was also Bel's fave song on it from what she said. It was also the ONLY TIME they didn't take off the lead song as a single. Ridiculous as it's as good-if not better-and more challenging than a lot of past singles. And future-but then 'In Too Deep' is clearly a safer bet than 'Goodbye Day', the towering 'Tell Me' or anything else from 1993, including cool ignored b-side 'Change'.

Yes by now the US were not bothering with her-they only charted 2 from "Runaway Horses" album in the charts over there, and she hasn't seen chart action there since 'Do You Feel Like I Feel' and THAT only made No.73! But Cyndi Lauper's 3rd album missed the Top 30 in 1989 just like Belinda's did, and she continued to dwindle, though Bel is better. I came to her albums late, but they're worth it.

  34. D.... C....

The Rick Nowells/Ellen Shipley writing team was a fantastic combination for me....I do like this track though....record companies can be so wrong sometimes...

  35. e.... ....

It was and still is a great song. Should have been huge for her.

  36. e.... ....

I completely agree, David. It's the best song and video from the album. It should have been a huge hit for her.

  37. j.... ....

Live your life be free was Belinda best album to date should of releases the two singles I said totally brilliant and half the world was good as well

  38. j.... ....

  41. B.... ....

    I still can't believe this wasn't a huge hit.

  42. m.... ....

Nice one mate! You're one of my all-time favourite producers. This song is THE best Belinda song. You nailed it. The video did NOT do it justice - totally took away the song's power. That drum work was amazing

  43. D.... O....

I can't work days I can't sleep nights - story of my life lol GO BABE!~

  44. l.... c....

  47. R.... N....

i wrote this w dave munday for belinda. it was never a single although we were trying to make a hit!! rick nowels london june 2012

    R.... N....

This really was an amazing track. It's a shame that this track and You're nothing without me weren't released as singles... they would have been massive in Europe. This track in particular is still so current. Perhaps it should be covered by a modern artist. It still screams hit single. I still totally love In too deep and We want the same thing. Fabulous remix of that one... I remember it well. Thank you for the songs, Rick. They still bring much enjoyment to me now xx

    R.... N....

It’s one of my ever fav songs. She should work with you and Ellen again for a complete new record. An please, something like Runaway Horses or Live Your Life Be Free.

    R.... N....
