Canned Heat - Rollin' And Tumblin' Lyrics

I roll and I tumble, cried the whole night long
Yes I roll and I tumble, I cried the whole night long
I got up this morning, feeling that something going on wrong

Well now want you to love me baby, or please let me be
Yes love me baby, or please let me be
If you don't like my peaches please don't shake my tree

Well I want you to love me baby, and come on and say you'll be mine
I want you to love me baby, come and say you'll be mine
If you don't like my potatoes, please don't dig up my vine

Awesome version of this foot stomper! I've been working on an acoustic slide version lately that borrows from Hambone Willie Newbern's original 1929 recording with some nods to Robert Johnson's and Muddy Waters. https://youtu.be/7_3niUrP-Wg

  2. J.... F....

The origin of this song is Hambone Willie Newbern's "Roll and Tumble Blues" from 1929.

    The correct text is below:

Oh well, I rolled and I tumbled, I cried the whole
    night long

Oh well, I rolled and I tumbled, I cried the whole night long

Oh well, I had the feeling, baby, something’s going on wrong.

Oh well, I really love you baby, come on and say
    you'll be mine

Well, if the river was whiskey, I was a divin' duck

Well, if the river was whiskey, I was a divin' duck

Well, I would swim to the bottom, baby I wouldn‘t come up

Oh well, I rolled and I tumbled, I cried the whole
    night long

Oh well, I rolled and I tumbled, I cried the whole night long

Oh well, I had the feeling, baby, something’s going on wrong.

    J.... K....

Thanks for posting the words. One microscopic detail, "If you don't like my taters, don't you dig up my vine" [makes it better than "tatters" here]. Double thanks again as I had only sketchy knowledge before seeing this Julian!

  11. C.... R....

such an American sounding band but i loved them.

  12. T.... L....

Bob Dylan did an excellent cover 10 years ago on "Modern Times". Most of the lyrics were new and written by him; but he cheekily claimed to have written the whole song!

    T.... L....

Well you know he could only write a poem but can't compose a song ahahaha

    T.... L....

Trevor Lyons Yes. One of the best songs on that CD!

  13. P.... S....

    TOP.....BEER BITCHS AND BIKES

This is a variation of Robert Johnson's "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day."

  19. N.... ....

Covers were quite frequent at the time.

  20. E.... K....

    J.... G....

    Vinyl rips are like that

  23. c.... ....

stop trying to make sense of the lyric and feel the grove .Far out man.I astro projected to this tune man,

  24. L.... ....

It's a cover, obviously, Eric Clapton and his bluesband with John Mayall had already did such a similar version in 1964 and so did many other musicians too, just check the Wiki page for Rollin and Tumblin. It may have even been evolved from other traditional black folk/blues songs from before Robert Johnson even, the man who sold his sould to teh devil they say, god I love American Blues Rock culture, and they call me anti-american just cuz I like the counter culture aswell.

  25. o.... ....

Ummm....you have the lyrics completely wrong.

If the river was whiskey, I was a divin' duck
I'd swim to the bottom, I would never come up, etc.

  26. g.... ....

Frank Cook was a WAY better drummer than Fito, but I still LOVE this band.

  27. s.... ....

great version... and i would be a divin' duck. hell yeah

  28. M.... M....

    You got the words wrong....

If the the river was whiskey, I was a diving duck

Give Mr. Muddy Waters some credit, diving duck doesn't make a whole lot of sense but what you guys wrote doesn't even come close to what they're singing.

  29. i.... a....

    nice post...

  30. j.... g....

Well in the river was whiskey I wasn't drive and drunk
Well in the river was whiskey I wasn't drive and drunk
Well I was whipped to the bottom baby I wouldn't come up

Oh well I'm rollin' and a tumblin' I've cried the whole night long
Oh well I'm rollin' and a tumblin' I've cried the whole night long
Oh well I hurt your feelin' baby, so this gone all wrong

    j.... g....

Well if the river was whiskey I was a diving duck
