Campbell, Glen - MacArthur Park Lyrics

Spring was never waiting for us girl it ran one step ahead as we followed in the dance
'Tween the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot fevered iron like a stripped pair of pants
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave on the ground around your knees
And birds like tender babies in your hands
And the old man playing checkers by the trees
Mac Arturh Park is melting in the dark all the sweet green ising flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never had that recipe again oh no

There will be another songs for me for I will sing it
There will be another dream for me someone will bring it
I'll drink the wine while it is warm and never let you catch me looking in the sun
But after all the loves of my life after all the loves of my life you'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passions flow like rivers through the sky
But after all the loves of my life oh after all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you and wondering why
Mac Arturh Park is melting...

  3. N.... ....

Glen Campbell sang for us, for you, for everyone. RIP Glen.

  4. j.... ....

What a talented and very smart man he was. And he was a fabulous guitarist and performer. It is a huge loss to the country music industry since he passed away. Every time I go to the Birmingham symphony hall I always remember him walking out onto that stage and performing. It's really tough for everyone who loved him and his music. RIP glen and thank you for your beautiful music and talent that I was able to listen to when my mother and father played it when I was a young boy. Your music will always be cherished I'm sure by many many people and you will never ever be forgotten 👤🎸🎤

  14. j.... b....

EXCELLENT, UNCLE GLEN, REST IN PEACE

  15. A.... M....

    oh yeah

  16. W.... ....

The director of the video SUCKED! When Glen NAILS it with his UNBELIEVABLE guitar solo, the director has a shot of the non-important bass player. You can overcome the poor direction by just listening to it.

  17. Q.... 5....

Watched this MANY times . That closing “Thank you so much ! “ gets me on each one at how humble and happy this man was .

  18. j.... G....

Jimmy Webb wrote this masterpiece when he was young..... No one better than Glen to sing it.

  19. P.... P....

  20. p.... ....

Jeez he shreds that guitar in half during the solo

  21. r.... ....

This song is one of the best ever,,I listen to it often in honor of my first wife who died of melanoma at the age of 24....No one ever played guitar like Glen,,sadly missed

  22. P.... A....

someone is going to lookup Glen Campbell that has never heard of him and be totaly blown away by this perfomance. Truly a masterwork one for the ages.

  23. r.... ....

I think God wanted him in heaven to sing and play for him.

  27. J.... S....

With regard to not hitting the high notes like he did in the 70s... well, that's alright ... None of us (even including Elton John) still do! And I sure don't either!

  28. R.... P....

    Just wonderful.

  29. C.... ....

    WOW! A masterpiece.

  40. n.... ....

Obese people get up to applaud. WOW.

  41. C.... O....

I have owned the DvD of this concert and watched it many times. I love it because it shows a time when Glen has made it all the way back from the depths and the demons that took him down in the 80's.
He is playing sold out shows and recording fantastic albums at this time, he has a happy family life and he is sharper than ever on the stage with his playing and his vocals.
Glen had a specific talent that shows here, in that he could take a somewhat sad and morose ballad and make it uplifting and still meaningful. That was his gift and he did it many times over his career with hits like "Gentle On My Mind", "Galveston" and many others.
A complete performer and a man who learned as he lived, he will always be remembered and appreciated.

  42. D.... R....

    Spectacular🎙🎸🇺🇸

  43. F.... ....

    nice shred Glenn

  44. t.... j....

Glen Campbell had much to thank Jimmy Webb for, for his enduring music career --  RIP, Glen....

  45. T.... W....

Best rendition I've heard of MacArthur Park. I will never delete the recording of this fab performance. Thanks for posting

  46. M.... S....

I had the pleasure of seeing Glen at a private party in Aspen in the early 80"s. What a great talent and really genuine person he was. A musical genius and legend.

  47. S.... A....

It’s August 2018, and I can’t think of any other artist who could have pulled off this arrangement’s vocal and guitar parts than Glen Campbell. Vocal alone? Sure: Richard Harris. Guitar solo alone (technique and feeling): Sure, there are many who have the chops required, and who with sufficient time to analyze what Glen did in this performance, could convincingly stand in for Glen if he became ill, e.g., Warren Haynes; Miguel Montalban; Eric Johnson; Eddie Van Halen; Paul Gilbert; to name just a few. Guitar solo (composition): Here I am not so sure, but based upon their composition of certain riffs, I would bet the most on Montalban or Van Halen. But that vocal and that guitar solo performed by one artist accompanied by a full string orchestra? Only Glen Campbell comes to mind, and only because these live performance videos exist to prove he did it all in one take. I doubt the world will see another performer of this caliber for at least several generations, but I would be delighted if someone could prove I’m mistaken, for it would be thrilling to watch her or him perform.

  48. R.... W....

Have never found a version that tops Harris' studios cut - but this is close. Glen brings a lot of emotion to the song and the guitar improv over the middle section is superb.

  49. S.... H....

    magical & absolutely brilliant !!!

  50. A.... M....

    Maravillosa.

  51. W.... M....

    It’s Unbelievable That’s What It Are . . . . . . !!!!!!!

  52. p.... r....

this was the best song that jimmy webb ever wrote glen campbell does a better job than richard harris

  53. C.... ....

    OBSESSED!!!

  54. B.... L....

    Glen was the Country Clapton.

  55. b.... ....

I haven't heard a better version. I think there is room for a better performance, but this will be my favorite for now.

  56. d.... g....

Outstanding!! OMG Wonderful!! RIP dear Glen!! Thank you!!

  57. T.... A....

    Freckin, freckin,,,,, W0W

  58. B.... F....

    Wow....absolutely stunning.....what an incredible arrangement...

  59. k.... e....

Glen doesn't have to do a dying fly like Richard Harris.

  60. D.... S....

The world will sorely miss Glen Campbell in so many ways.

  61. d.... ....

Spectacular! I think this is a hard song to pull off live, and Glen nails it!

  62. G.... H....

    Unbelievable

  63. R.... L....

Thank you Jesus, my Savior & Lord, that I didn't leave my cake in the rain: but with you, I'll live forever & when you return, your Father God, will give me a new, spiritual body like yours. Thanks.

  64. C.... N....

A breathtaking talent. He gave us so much. His music will survive the ages

  65. J.... a....

I am a Brit but I genuinely loved this man for the joy he gave millions.

  66. J.... a....

I am 65 now and hope I will live longer, what faces us all is the end, so many around me have passed on. Glenn is a true Hero and brave man. God bless all those who are suffering yet manage to show us how to keep going.

  67. G.... Q....

This is the best version ever.

  68. S.... ....

I envy Glen's kids, grandkids and on down the road, because they can get on the internet and spend an entire day or maybe week just seeing him as a young incredible musician. So handsome and his abilities were so far above so many.

  69. O.... E....

Best version yet. RIP Glen Campbell

  70. G.... ....

Wonderful! Thank you, Dr. Landy, for posting this.
And to those who offer their feeble "thumbs down:" Your reaction is a negative reflection on you, not the video. Please seek help.

  71. S.... H....

  76. P.... W....

Glen you were truly gifted you put such love and passion in your singing and guitar no one like you thank you Glen forever in our hearts thank you for treasured memories Bless you Rest in Peace..

  77. R.... A....

As much I like this version, Richard Harris will remain my preferred version. The lyrics of this song is one of most misunderstood songs.

  78. C.... J....

He died a happy man, full of love, family, friends children to carry on his legacy. Time to let him rest in peace

  79. C.... J....

Sounds so beautiful, Glen always drew me to his music and songs. I start.to tear up when I hear him.playing

  80. w.... a....

for me there will be always the best version of richard harris

  81. x.... ....

Glenn's guitar solo has a similar style to Chicago's late guitarist Terry Kath.

  82. c.... v....

Glen is just stupid good. No other way to describe it. Webb's lyrics teeter between sublime and ridiculous, yet Glen delivers them with so much passion. I swear it give me chills every time I listen.

  83. s.... ....

    Elvis, Glen, Roy.

  84. R.... T....

    Amazing, sadly missed Glen

  85. R.... B....

    a Masterpiece

  86. s.... ....

  87. P.... A....

    This man WAS music.

  88. F.... B....

    Glen, Jimmy, Shakespeare

  89. w.... ....

Let's not beat about the bush here I defy anyone to sing this song better than Glen just has.

  90. s.... m....

    Great talent

  91. W.... ....

You should just listen to this, because the cameramen missed so much of Glenn's guitar prowess,

  92. M.... M....

What an incredible version and performance. He was at full tilt. Never backing away from a top note. Love the way he pulls the microphone out near the end as if to say come on then. Glen had a wonderful touch of knowing how to make sense of a song and portray it to an audience. A lifetime of experience on show. Simply superb. Sadly missed but never forgotten

  93. M.... ....

The haunting melodies and soul piercing lyrics of MacArthur Park will forever touch me in a place where forever lives the painful memories of love long lost, and yet a time when life was oh so sweet with the wonders of my youth.

  94. r.... j....

    Wish I had been there.

  95. T.... W....

A forever watch over and over performance - a Campbell classic

  96. w.... ....

3:58 Glen looks so happy at this shot. My favourite part of the whole piece. Overall a brilliant performance.

  97. B.... ....

So so..He really doesn't go for it...
