Campbell, Glen - Didn't We Lyrics

This time we almost made the pieces fit
Didn't We, girl?
This time we almost made some sense of it
Didn't We, girl?
This time I had the answer right here in my hand,
Then I touched it and it had turned to sand,
This time we almost sang our song in tune
Didn't We, girl?
This time we almost made it to the moon oh,
Didn't We, girl?
This time we almost made our poem rhyme,
This time we almost made that long hard climb,
Didn't We almost make it this time?

This time we almost made the pieces fit
Didn't We, girl?
This time we almost made some sense of it
Didn't We, girl?
This time I had the answer right here in my hand,
Then I touched it and it had turned to sand,
This time we almost sang our song in tune
Didn't We, girl?
This time we almost made it to the moon oh,
Didn't We, girl?
This time we almost made our poem rhyme,
This time we almost made that long hard climb,
Didn't We almost make it this time?

Campbell, Glen Didn't We Comments
  1. Jose Manuel

    Preciosa interpretación

  2. Robert Johnson

We lost a great musician when Glen passed. The ravages of drugs got its nasty claws into another great talent. Please learn that drug use will take down from the average man to the greatest talent. They do not make you more creative whatsoever, they destroy your creativity and talent and snatch your life from you and take you from those who love you and turn you into a monster, NO EXCEPTIONS

  3. Squee Dow

    *What! A! Voice!*

    Plus, he's gorgeous. <3 <3 <3

  4. Bitsy Willmott

This song expresses our loss - for Glen and for personal loves....

  5. guitarsurfer2010

    Jerry Reed on 2nd Guitar.
Jimmy Webb was Glen's composer, so He is singing this song as it was meant to be heard, right from the source.
Glen Cambell, Top Talent, physical Beauty, and Humility. what a man.

  6. teresita banquirigo

Multi talented glenn was a good actor doing westerns. He was also a good guitarist. Sang a lot of wonderful songs like this one but my favorite has always been yesterday when i was young. It is sad to note that when he got older he suffered parkinson and slowly deteriorated but this is always the glenn campbell that i always remember

    Ollie OverTheMoon

Teresita, Glen was a brilliant guitarist - the best in the biz. And his voice and song delivery = pure gold. His first acting role was good enough to win John Wayne his only Oscar. ;) But he never had Parkinson's; it was Alzheimer's that felled this musical giant. It's truly wonderful that we can still enjoy his talent here with so many clips from his long and legendary career. YWiWY is such a poignant song - Glen sings it beautifully, but "Didn't We" is one of my favorites. Glen & Jimmy = perfection.

  7. Warren J Brown

Man, what timing, cadence, effect - not an easy song.

  8. Joshie

He seems embarrassed to be lip syncing. Still love Glen!

    Ollie OverTheMoon

    Lip syncing? Surely you jest.

  15. Larry Carr

I just read the new Jimmy Webb autobiography...great read. The Cake and the Rain is an eye opening, brutally honest and insightful look at the the inside of one of Americas greats song writers. Can't wait for more Jimmy! And RIP Glen !

  16. J C Freeman

OH MY GOSH Glen could sing anything & give you goosebumps.

  17. hohaia rangi

    He was a great singer.

  18. Jean Miller

Oh how when we had him I always thought next concert! Well then my dad went through Alzheimer’s like Glen but it was a bit quicker! I was caring for dad didn’t get to go to a concert then my Dad passed Glen was in Nursing home! I wish I had taken Dad when he would have enjoyed the music!

    Ollie OverTheMoon

Jean, I understand. I had front and center tickets to the last time he came through my town in 2002 -- it was before his illness, but my mum got sick and I couldn't go. Never thought I wouldn't ever get a chance to see him again ... but I did see him live in concert in the early 80s and met him after the show - he was fabulous and always took time for his fans. Unforgettable.

    Brenda Rawlins

John, I saw him twice in Australia, two rows back and two seats from the microphone. Thought i had died and gone to heaven!!!

    Ollie OverTheMoon

Brenda - lucky you!! I saw him once with Tanya Tucker and met him after the show and got his autograph! yes, Heavenly! Next time I had center front seats but my mum got sick so i couldn't go. He didn't come through my town again. But that one time was fabulous - as a super fan I was over the moon! :)

  27. Capt Termite

Gotta say, Jimmy's new book The Cake and the Rain is as beautiful to read as his songs are to re-visit. So many good stories.

  28. Adam Silver

amazing. I am not the biggest fan of Glen Campbell or Jimmy Webb but this vocal performance and orchestration make this song awesome and much better than the studio version.

    softyme63

Adam Silver The version on the live album from '69 was even prettier 😀

I understand your sentiments. I was no fan, of any kind of Olivia Newton John, then on a flight, Bose Headphones and great sound, I heard her do, mainly just her voice and piano, "The Long and Winding Road" At that point, I suddenly was overcome; I have admire her ever since.

A great song sung by a great and under-rated singer of the purest notes Glen Campbell! He never hit a bad note!

  33. 123Rockchild

    Oh yes...this is good stuff.

  34. Terri Robison

I have to say I just crack up over "The Voice".  My mom watches and I just laugh.  The judges get them all wrong.
These kids, some are terrific, but the majority sing OUT OF TUNE....No comparisons to our 60's, 70's groups....

    vanibat

    I agree wholeheartedly.

    Rebecca Day

+Terri Robison I so agree... what passes for music, other than Adele, makes me cringe!!
