Campbell, Glen - Arkansas Lyrics

Arkansas, land of opportunity
Arkansas, oh, what you do to me
Prettiest place I ever saw
Was back home in Arkansas

All those boyhood memories
Lakes and rivers and Backwood trees
Gentle mountains, it reached to the sky
Oh, how I hated to say goodbye to

Arkansas, land of opportunity
Arkansas, oh, what you do to me
Prettiest place I ever saw
Was back home in Arkansas

Dirt roads that lead nowhere
Except the houses that need repairing
And front porch people wearing a smile
And they cover every mile of

Arkansas, land of opportunity
Arkansas, oh, what you do to me
Prettiest place I ever saw
Was back home in Arkansas

I can see my Dad back home
Working Park County, sandy lawn
Mama callin' me from the door
Oh, how I wanna go once more to

Arkansas, land of opportunity
Arkansas, oh, what you do to me
Prettiest place I ever saw
Was back home in Arkansas

Arkansas, land of opportunity
Arkansas, oh, what you do to me
Prettiest place I ever saw
Was back home in Arkansas

Love Glenn Campbell's music. One of the many great contributors to America's music scene who are from Arkansas or have close Arkansas connections. Amazingly, nearing 80, this was my first hearing of this Glenn Campbell song. Won't be the last! Regarding the video, loved the familiar Little Rock scenes along with those of the woods and streams, all part of our great state... but would have wished for more of other towns, large and small, especially of the now half-million plus Fayetteville/Springdale/Rogers/Bentonville Northwest Arkansas metro area, nearby lakes and Buffalo National River.

Thank you, Terry. Fortunately I do not live close enough to the river for it to be a problem for me. I am a good 25-30 miles from it. But a lot of folks that do live close to it are sure hurting.

Glen was raised in Delight but I don’t think he was born there

    W.... I....

Wikipedia says he was born in Billstown, AR, which is an unincorporated community 6.5 miles SW of Delight. Close enough. LOL

I use to listen to Glen in the Chesterfield Club in Albuquerque long before the rest of the country knew about him. It was in the late 1950s. He was in his uncle Dick Bills band at the time..
