So this is a weird paradox about becoming an artist out of envy as opposed to out of appreciation. The scathing resentment is all too palpable - the irony being that we are sitting here watching a story about Brutus the artist - featured as a muse for this song we are hearing - but in the context of the story it is Brutus rebelling against being the muse. It's an interesting dichotomy of like - being appreciated by one person who used that appreciation to enlighten or energize the masses was not enough, as Brutus wants to BE the artist, an even more egotistical position to be in if that's how you arrive at it. What a strange and twisted mobius strip.

of course i cannot fault you for this interpretation, as ultimately my success or failure to relay my 'message' is my responsibility and not yours as the viewer, but i think youve misunderstood a bit the point, a thing i tried to be explicit about in the lyrics when i said "please know my actions are not motivated only by envy". the idea i was hoping id convey is that even though it is true brutus is motivated partially & undeniably by envy & resentment - what she desires ultimately is to be the vehicle for greatness, not simply to create her own legacy though that is undeniably part of what motivates her - but because what is ultimately valuable to her is greatness itself, not simply the possession of it. it is her personal wonderings about whether or not this is just an act of ego that creates the inner conflict in the first place. it's resolved when she decides that regardless of what it means for her, it is good for the public, and therefore necessary.
