Bush, Kate - A Coral Room Lyrics

I never tire of this song, I swear it gets better each time I hear it. Her music is so easy on the ear yet complex, really need to listen to it, I just get lost in it.

In my grandpa's house there is a room filled with old things we do not dare touch, all covered in dust and spiderwebs. They belong to people who already passed or to my grandparents themselves, but in what seems like another life to them. A couple things were mine as a kid, and now that also seems another life to me. As my family slowly changes and people leave us, something remains in time, a print of what used to be. That feeling of peeking under the spiderwebs is so well put in this song, it always brings tears to my eyes.

How that small piece of metal came to be made, and then now it is in my hand. What journey IT took, passed by person to person through time and distance.....we are so transient....each of us such tiny blips in time.....

It is just so good..... and my link to a life changing move makes it so powerful to me, i hope it never ends.... what can she do next!

My mother in a little brown jug. it held her milk and now it holds her memories. I can hear her singing."

The Pinnochio part at 1.41 is beautifully melancholic - the wooden toy who wanted to be a real boy. Pinnochio's quite similar to(In Search Of) Peter Pan. And the 'my mother' part at 2.47 (and 3.18 with Gepetto) is amazing with what looks like a ship's figurehead but attached to a framework as if it's actually part of an ornate interior decoration such as on Titanic. I was wondering where you got those images?.

Come on. Someone has to know why there is this guy singing her mother's verse. It's mysterious and a bit comic, too. His name is on the booklet yes, but who is he? Not a singer of any sort... Someone close to Kate and her mother, I suppose.

The guy that sings that part in the song is Michael Wood.
He also sang on her other songs 'Lake Tahoe' and 'Moments of Pleasure'

I'm playing this at my mother's funeral in a week's time. Very sad, beautiful and haunting but also helpful: the spider of time, crawling out of the broken jug, helps to heal, but you also really have to fully experience your grief to heal (put your hand over the side over the boat).

An absolutely stunning piece of music and one of my all time fav Kate tunes!

According to my Military code names dictionary, "BROWNJUG" is a name for NATO peacetime military exercises. Book was published in 1963. I wonder if there is a connection in this song to the planes, speedboats and her brown jug?

I'm gonna have to say, given she said its about a memory of her mother and a jug, in this case, no.

She likes things with more than one meaning, and has lot's of military references in earlier songs. I'd say the brown jug captures several meanings for her She's rich.
