Buffett, Jimmy - Something So Feminine About A Mandoline Lyrics

It was late in the evenin'
just a few of us pickin',
but the lady she played
so easy and fine.
And the chords that she strummed
were so tastefully clever,
they planted this song in my mind.

Cause there's somethin' so feminine,
about a mandolin;
the way that they feel,
the way that they ring.
Just to see slender fingers,
movin' so fluid,
made this poor heart to sing.

And when I get older and I have a daughter,
I'll teach her to sing, and play her my song
And I'll tell her some stories I can barely remember
And hope that she will sing along.

Maybe one day she'll take a fancy to pickin',
'Cause when that bug bites you,
you live with the string.
And if she could just strum a few simple measures
She could make some young man sing.

Cause there's somethin' so feminine
about a mandolin.
The way that they feel, the way that they ring.
And that evening in a pasture,
somewhere near Austin.
That mandolin made me sing,
Her mandolin made me sing.

When my baby daughter was cranky, I'd pick her up, put this disc in and play this song. She and I would slow-dance around the living room. She'd lay her head on my shoulder and be out in no time. This is my favorite Buffett tune, despite getting through college with the 'You Had To Be There' set and a dime bag.

One of my favorite Jimmy Buffet songs from a long time ago

    soooo beautiful

Thank you so much for uploading this song -- one of my favorite Jimmy Buffett tunes ever recorded.  In my mind's eye, it takes me straight back to my youth on the Gulf coast of Florida.

real nice reminds me of a song Townes van Zandt would write

Thank you for recognizing Townes. I'm sure he'd been proud to write this song. Buffet has so much more to offer than Margaritaville. Townes Van Zandt at The Old Quarter is a national treasure. Peace brother.

One of JB's most tasty tunes. I remember playing this tune with a lady that played mandolin. (Her brother wrote and performed the 60s mega hit "Elusive Butterfly.") She could really pick and to watch her was magic. I haven't seen her in years hope she is still pickin. I think she moved from Texas to Nashville.
