Buddy Holly - Down The Line Lyrics

Well, my ol' car's a-rollin' down the line
Thoughts of my baby runnin' through my mind
She's a-waitin' for me, I gotta be on time
I gotta go, go, go, go, go, go, go
I gotta go, go, go, go, go, go, go

Well, the white marker's flying off the road below
Man, I'm a-really flyin' low
My baby's waitin', I can't go slow
I gotta go, go, go, go, go, go, go
I gotta go, go, go, go, go, go, go

Well, a big policeman pulled alongside a-me
He said, "Boy you ain't quite as fast as me!"
I showed him a picture of that baby of mine
He said, "Boy you gotta roll on down that line!"

Well, my ol' car's a-rollin' down the line
Thoughts of my baby runnin' through my mind
She's a-waitin' for me, I gotta be on time
I gotta go, go, go, go, go, go, go
I gotta go, go, go, go, go, go, go

Note that Buddy and Bob recorded this long before Buddy met that crook Norman Petty who put his name on several songs that he had no right to!

buddy holly 50s beatles 60s led zeppelin 70s thats all she wrote i will allways have a soft spot in my heart for buddy. he did more in two years then most bands did in there entire career. the beatles zep and many others were inspired by the fact he could make many types of music not just three chord rock n roll. like the beatles and zep he could rock but he also had a soft touch too God bless..

  9. T.... R....

Impossible to drive down the highway listening to this song and stay within the speed limit.

Mooie Herinneringen aan de Muziek van Buddy Holly ! Een Onvergetelijke Tijdperk ! Luister nog graag naar zijn Muziek ❤

  11. B.... B....

People started whole religions over this song.

  12. J.... G....

Not to be confused with Roy Orbison's version. This tune was recorded long before "1958"

    J.... G....

Roy Orbison song was Move on Down the Line completely different song

    J.... G....

@Ritchie Ritchison Yes it is a different tune. Actually the original title of Roy's song was "Go Go Go". It was the flipside of "Ooby Dooby". After Jerry Lee Lewis did his version in 1958, Orbison dropped the Go Go Go title

  13. H.... K....

One of my favorite early songs of his!

  14. B.... ....

It doesn't get better than this!

  15. J.... F....

    Holy shit that's great!!!

  16. M.... G....

A purely personal opinion, but this is an example of later overdubbing that is actually an improvement.
